I wish i was confident enough to sing. I know I'm good, and when I sing along i nail it. But as soon as I know someone is listening, my throat tightens and I either go flat or pitchy. Choir and singing since mommy and me singing classes when I was learning to talk, and I can't get through baa baa black sheep if anyone is listening

Ariana was in the OBC of Hamilton, she played the Bullet!
Ariana DeBose. Oscar nominee and is best known for playing The Bullet in Hamilton. She had an edgier, more unique and easily noticed, short on the sides and back, curly and blond on top hairstyle in that show.
She is also in The Prom 🤩 i love her in that movie
She also played 'Disco Donna' in "Summer: The Donna Summer Musical" (Tony Nom for Best Featured Actress) and got her start in the top 20 on season 6 of SYTYCD.

Jess Leprotto, who was in the Top Ten in Season 8 is one of the Jets and is prominent in Gee Officer Krupke. Jess has an amazing 17 Broadway shows on his resume. SYTYCD is coming back in the Summer. It's been the launching pad for the professional career of so many dancers, among them Melanie Moore (Finding Neverland, Fiddler on the Roof and Hello Dolly on Broadway). She's going to be in the national tour of To Kill A Mockingbird. Neil Haskell and Thayne Jeppeson have been a longstanding cast members of Hamilton on Broadway (Neil has stepped into the role of King George at times). Alex Wong has worked consistently on stage and in movies. The list is actually longer so the show coming back will, hopefully, send more of the kids on their way to long careers in dance.

THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU CAST ACTUAL BROADWAY TALENT IN MOVIE MUSICALS AND NOT ACTORS WHO CANT SING AND DANCE YES! I’ve seen Ariana a couple of times on Broadway and she is just the ultimate triple threat.

Absolutely - and damn, DeBose didn't just deliver the goods on a demanding role, but stepped into the shoes of two women who truly deserve that over-used label "iconic" - Rita Moreno and Chita Rivera. She didn't win her Oscar -- she did ALL the work to snatch it.

Ariana DeBose is an amazing singer, dancer, actress, performer, she was the bullet from Hamilton, she was in Schmigadon, and The Prom movie from Netflix. She is great
Yup she's fantastic!! I really hope she gets the Oscar for this role. And I think this film has really started to help kickstart her career in Hollywood. It was recently announced she got cast in Sony's Kraven the Hunter movie, a spy film starring people like Henry Cavill and Samuel L Jackson, and a space thriller called I.S.S.

I just wanna point out that the woman in the purple dress next to Anita (Arianna DeBose) is the first Panamanian person to be in a big Hollywood picture and we are extremely proud of her. The casting director for this reimagining of West Side Story did an AMAZING job at representing every latino out there!

Fun Fact: Ariana DeBose shot this entire dance number on a badly sprained ankle. It was so bad that when she was injured, everyone thought she had broken her foot
I didn't know that. In the original, Rita Moreno also did this song in a badly sprained ankle. If you look carefully you can see the tape on her foot.
Ariana DeBose is famously known for being “The Bullet” in Hamilton. She was also in Bring It On: The Musical and The Prom. She was also in Schmigadoon. Singer, Dancer, Actor a real force of nature. She’s also an advocate for LGBTQ+ representation and equality.
And Bernardo, he was in Billy Elliot when he was younger.
Sidenote: According to Stephen Spielberg and a bunch of the casting crew in an interview, during the casting of WSS, they were having trouble casting Bernardo after a couple weeks. It's until they recalled the young kids who won tony awards for their roles in Billy Elliot. One of those kids actors is David Alvarez.

Love David as Bernardo, he and Ariana has such perfect chemistry together. Their lovestory in the film is actually better than the main one..(never understood the Romeo/Juliet story, seems a liiittle crazy)
What's even more impressive is that they filmed this scene in over 100 degree heat. Ariana said that she burned holes in her shoes from how hot the asphalt was when she was dancing!

Hamilton, The Prom, Smigadoon... so much you can look up. You should review A Boy Like That/I Have A Love. Rachel and Ariana are fabulous and heartbreaking in there.

Some people don't like musicals because of how unrealistic it is to break out into song and to just know the choreography me personally I wish that was real life. Sometimes I wish I could just break out into song and have a whole ensemble of people dancing in the street behind you this is literally my dream. And yeah it's not quote on quote realistic but it's better than reality I think that's the charm of musical theater

Steven Spielberg is such a genius... this LOOKS brilliant.
Ariana has been around Broadway since Bring It On. She became more known as The Bullet in Hamilton and then went on to get a Tony nomination for her portrayal as one of the Donnas in the Donna Summers musical. She went on to do The Prom and Schmigadoon. She really is an extraordinary triple threat and is always putting in the work for the next phase of her career before it even happens, which I have huge respect for. She sees where she wants her career to go and trains for it.
As for the costumes, that is Paul Tazewell’s extraordinary eye for detail. I’m not surprised at all that he added the Capri pants. In my opinion, he is the best costume designer on Broadway. His designs are always brilliant and when the situation calls for it, utterly gorgeous and sumptuous. I’m so glad to see him break into other areas of the industry.
For me the song where Adriana really shines is in “A Boy Like That.”

Justin Peck is the principal choreographer for the New York City ballet. He choreographed this movie. Remember, these scenes were filmed in July, when the pavement is scorching hot. Peck said he’d never seen anything like it. Between the hot pavement and how fast her feet were moving, Ariana DeBose’s shoes MELTED. Peck and the costume department had to keep extra shoes on set just for DeBose. Make that: FUTURE ACADEMY AWARD WINNER: Ariana DeBose!

This is actually the first movie Ariana Debose filmed. She was in The Prom which came out first (after West Side was already in the can). She made a name for herself on Broadway-In “Bring It On”, “Motown the Musical”, “Pippin”, “Hamilton” and “Donna Summer the Musical” for which she was Tony nominated. She booked the WSS gig while doing Donna Summer.
She’s an Afro Latina who began as a dancer and who also supports LGBTQ+ rights. For this film she’s Oscar nominated who already won the best supporting actress for the SAG Award, Critics Choice Award, Golden Globe, and the BAFTA Award.
It’s so nice actually getting to hear Ariana Debose sing because her role in Hamilton as the Bullet was very quiet.

Ariana is flawless!! I've got to know her because of The Prom, which is a lovely movie based on the Broadway musical. The movie is available on Netflix! You shoud hear her sing "Alyssa Greene", that's her solo there! But my fav is the duet "Dance With you" 😍😍
She's also the bullet in Hamilton and played Donna Summer in Broadway!! She's also in a TV series featuring many Broadway references, in which she sings "With All of your heart", the song is really nice!

Schmigadoon on Apple TV+ is another thing she was good in! Not going to lie I hadn't seen the Prom or WSS at that point so that was my first introduction to her but yeah she was great in that show! The cast of the show is also great. Ariana DeBose, Kristen Chenoweth, Dove Cameron, Aaron Tveit, and Alan Cummings play some of the important figures in the town of Schmigadoon plus Keegan Michael Key and Cecily Strong play the unhappy couple that find their selves transported into Schmigadoon. The show is both a parody and an homage to classic musicals. I found it a fun watch.

I held out in n watching this movie because I was a little bitter it got an Oscar nom and not tick tick boom. Felt like I was cheating ony main men Jonathan , Andrew and Lin. Well enjoyed it soooo much .. and what had me coming back was not the acting or singing it was the orchestra! And dancing !! It made me feel I was in the theater.. and I was blown away ... She has a good roster of work and performances so I'll just name those that you might know her from. Ariana is an original company member of Hamilton and originated the key ensemble track of The Bullet. She currently has a Golden Globe, BAFTA and now nominated for an Oscar. My favorite part of this number in the '61 movie was when Rita Moreno touches George Chakiris's arm and sings, "You forget I'm in America." and the women shout with glee that she finished Bernardo's line. That came off a bit low key in this version, but otherwise, it was a great scene all the way around.
I take your point - but I think it was a sound performance choice on Debose's part because the whole number was pitched as a little less of Anita being flirtatious and teasing with Bernardo. Not saying it was better than Anita Moreno's read -- in my book, they both richly deserve the Oscars on their shelves -- just different.

I think this scene is absolute perfection from the laundry to the final kiss. There is nothing I can fault, the colour, choreography, staging..it’s just absolutely exhilarating to watch, especially on a big home cinema screen. I have watched this song about 20 times and I still love it as much as I did first time around. Thanks for the amazing analysis and just as importantly the genuine enthusiasm!

I got to see her on her last performance day in Hamilton.
One of the things that always bothers me is that casting directors wouldn't think of hiring a non dancer for a dance role,like this, and yet they will routinely hire non-singers, like Ansel Elgort, for singing roles.

Most actors know how to sing and if not, it's easy to learn with a good coach. Dancing is a less common skill and learning to dance this well when you've never done it seems like it would be way more difficult.

America is the most exciting dance number I have ever seen. I love both the 1961 and the 2021 versions. Maybe you can compare them both? In WSS the Dance at the Gym is my all time favorite of the 2021 film. The dancing is GREAT!!! Even though there is no singing, it leads to the Maria song. Maybe you can compare the 2 films.
