The Wiesel Tracked Vehicle - Firepower For Paratroopers | Full Documentary
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 22. 02. 2020
- The weapon carrier Wiesel is a small track vehicle of the Bundeswehr. Visually, it looks like a toy tank, but it's packed with firepower and power. The 20mm machine gun and the anti-tank guided missile TOW are dangerous weapons. The weasel was designed to be extra small and light so that it can be quickly brought into its field of application by helicopter and transport aircraft. It is probably the most diverse armored vehicle in the Bundeswehr.

How does this not have more likes lmao
That was perfect ;)
LMFAO thats awsome. Its a cool lil tank or whatever you call it. I predict more of these types of weapons will be made. With drones and AI some will not have people at all in them saveing space / time and lives. Its gonna be scary though :(
@@savagex466-qt1io Very scary. How does one surrender to a robot and how does a robot interpret the Geneva Convention. Once war quits being personal then belligerents become faceless monsters and things may spiral up in a negative manner. Why hold any punches if the enemy isn't human.
This is why you NEVER wash a tank in hot water. This went in the tank wash as a Maus and now look at it!

When this vehicle was introduced to the troops in 1990, I thought it was more of a joke than a tank. But when I saw him in action, I knew that this thing is an insanely dangerous weapon.
Greetings from Germany
cute but dangerously
Most people think itâs a joke when they first set their eyes on it. That all changes the first time they see it in action. When employed properly with well trained soldiers, it can be devastating on the battlefield.
Was this used in Iraq? We know tanks like the Abrams are amazing based on their results in Iraq. We saw battles where hundreds of enemy tanks were killed with zero losses to the enemy. I'm curious if this preformed in Iraq and how well it did. Vehicles like the humvee did poorly in Iraq and had to be changed. People thought the Abrams would be bad because of how huge it was but the massive size was worth it when you can kill enemy tanks way beyond what they can kill you at.
â@@domnoya4130 No it wasn't used in Iraq , German armed forces didn't participate in this war.
For urban warfare I think it's a great tool and today in Ukraine it could be very versatile equipped with ATMs,
like TOW (or modern versions) , I don't know what happened to those, they werejust in testing when I was in service, 30 years ago.

The power of the modern Tankette. Such a beautiful little machine.

@@HedgehogZone the boxer is a bit larger and has wheels XD
It's a development of the British universal carrier concept, like so many other vehicles and "tankettes." Giving mobility and versatility to what would usually be man portable systems.
If the US Army tries to build something like this vehicle, the poor airborne soldiers will get a 40 ton tank that is 8 feet high and has a crew of 10.
Yeah, U.S military tends to over-engineer stuff..
@@rossmelnyk1900 over engineer or over design?
i see overengineering as developing a piece of technologie that is way too advanced for what it needs to do leading to for example too difficult to repair
while i see the bradley as bad design because its a jack of all trades but a master of none
And 5 million rounds of 50 call to over come anything that moves anywhere ..heehee lol
We were almost sold the weasel . It competed against the JLTV in a niche airborne role .

Old Geo Metro with a recoilless rifle mounted on the roof would be cheaper.

25:11 -" The TOW 2 can Penetrate armor of up to 70mm. "
Boy I'd hope so, But you're missing an extra zero on the end of that.
70mm would be a bit hard to take on modern tanks with.
700mm would be more appropriate however.
@Proud Indian Seems you didnÂŽt listen carefully. The soldier said that MELLS is replacing the TOW on the Wiesel and that is already ongoing.
Even 700 mm is not enough anymore. Most modern vehicles have over 1000 mm of heat protection, heavy IFV included.
You do realise a simple rpg-7 can pennetrate 12 inches of hardened steel right? That being said i dont see the tow having any real real problem even with the modern tank thickness.

The Wiesel is a great little vehicle with tremendous capacity! I can envision a light cavalry troop with platoons of Wiesel 1 and 2 sporting 30MM auto cannon TOW missiles, and anti-ATGM systems. The Wiesels would be backed-up by CV120s. The Troop HQ would 3x Wiesel mortar carriers for indirect fire support. These are all light weight systems that can use lower class bridges. Their low silhouette makes them easier to conceal and find cover, but their fire power makes them very lethal if they are forced to engage the enemy as in a meeting engagement or counter-recon fight! Security is speed and stealth! IRT air drop the Germans should use the US Army Airborne system of specially built aluminum pallets and heavy drop parachutes! As demonstrated it is great for Airborne/Air Assault operations also!
Similar concept with Torpedo-boats or Fast attack craft (FAC) in the marine. Little fast mobile and with over powerfull weapons for it weight.
I would think a CROWS-J with . 50 HMG or 40mm MK19 with Javelins would be lighter and very capable
I need one of those, love it. Infantry will need to run facing this micro beast. That capabillity should be used by all western armys. So helpful for fast deployment.

WestCoast Michael even though itâs LITERALLY called lightning war in English, perfected by a German man (Heinz Guderian), and which defeated the English in France?
WestCoast Michael you have any sources? Or are you just twisting the truth to fit your agenda?
@WestCoast Michael this was just allied propaganda. Germans did invent lot of technology that's still used today. They were the best in terms of technological, strategic development and their uniforms. Just because they were overconfident enough to go at war with the world they lost.
PATRIOT OF USA ok... what about Rommel? Heinz Guderian? Himmler? Montgomery? Eisenhower? Nagumo? Göring? Even Hitler? Thereâs a Lor of other great commanders during WW2, not just Patton. Also, Patton was known to drop court martial against his troops to reduce public embarrassment

There badass forreal
This newer tankette has much potential for extremely lightweight variants including unmanned. An assault force can use both manner and unmanned variants to decrease risk without revealing which are manned to the enemy combatants.
A potential for high highly effective, high energy electromagnetic anti-tank weapons mounted on unmanned variants is both an effective and casualty limiting method for force multiplying applications.
The potential for upgrades and improvements as the weapons and armor technologies continue to modernize is infinite and will likely continue to be an important component for future warfare and keep this tankette viable for some time to come.
Krauss-Maffei has actually developed a drone version and presented it a couple of months ago, I think.

What I miss is a trailer for ammo or some additional troops. You also could equip one with tools for trench digging. I also would give it a front protection against .50 cals, anything bigger can also penn 30 ton lights, so more armor doesn't matter that much.

The British Bren Carrier lives on in concept. Nothing new therefore about this concept. The Bren carrier was used for medium and heavy MGs, Anti tank rifles, mortars, towed Anti tank guns, flame thrower, personnel carrier, ambulance, you name it, they did it. I had the pleasure of working with the Weasel in Denmark Exercise Cold Grouse in the airborne MND (C). Great machines.
Quite honestly the Bren Carrier seems more useful than these things since they could tow things and carry troops. I don't think you're gonna fit any extra troops in a Weasel 1, though perhaps if you cut out the gun you could haul a recon team of 3-4 troops but that'd be a fairly neutered vehicle.

It is definitely rational for the US Marines or Taiwanese naval forces to adopt the Wiesel now that they are starting to retire the bigger Abrams and are switching to the WW2 "island hopping" strategy. Think about it, if a war between China and Taiwan (or the Phillipines) is to break out and the US decides to get involved. The Marines can just parachute these babies (with the appropiate modifications) onto the islands that may be too cramped and marshy for normal armor columns to provide more substantial firepower for the naval or parachuted infantries. Even if the Chinese manage to send their lighter ZTQ 15 onto the islands, the Wiesel's autocannons and missiles are more than enough to knock them out while maneuverable enough to get away from the incoming artillery barrage
the tank needs a standing plate fixed to the back so some troops can stand on the back to move towards the enemy
It's not a tank......
