I was in SSG Rivera's first unit. We both re-enlisted to stay in First Infantry. Alpha Battery was a Brotherhood. 1-7 FA was a Fraternity we had to know our unit history and military protocol. Serving in that unit was the square foundation of my military career. I'm so proud of Rivera for making the Artillery his career.

I first served in the Florida Army National Guard in 1979. I was in B battery 1-116 FA out of Avon Park. We were 105 MM towed (M101A1). Most of our section chiefs were Vietnam veterans. I was assigned as a FIST team chief. We were a very good unit with a great reputation then. As good as a weapon system may be they are useless without good men and crews to operate them. I feel very proud to have served with those men in that unit!

Like the name suggests the Flak88 is a "Flugabwehrkanone"- an Anti-aircraft gun. Also like JeepWrangler1957 correctly stated the Flak was used for direct fire unlike an atillery gun.

The ENIAC (development began in 1942, introduced in 1946) was not the first computer, it was the German Zuse Z3 (development began in 1938, introduced in 1941). The German army phased out such field guns decades ago. We have the Panzerhaubitze 2000 and Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) mobile weapon system, which only requires five respectively three operators instead of ten. It's also strange to see that artillerymen don't wear hearing protection.

Never knew you could see the rounds heading down range. Sadly this is outdated. While the M777 is great at fighting technologically inferior foes the Russia/Ukraine conflict is re-writing everything we know. Drones may well have replaced artillery. The FOO is replaced by a drone with camera and your shells replaced with kamikaze drones. M777, Abrams, Leopards, Bradleys and Challenger 2s all burning, and at sea water based drones taking out Russian ships. Best to train for the NEXT war, not the past ones. We are at a technologically pivotal game changing time.
