I didnt even realize this was for go karts until the comments lol I'm into this for it being my mud motor
Centofunny_51 mud mower , that’s what I was thinking
Same. Just got a boat today with the same engine. Funny how a free good running boat will still cost me $200-300 before I can even launch it 😂. Cant wait to mod it, bet it isn’t cheap.
@@MrPland1992 so since that comment I originally made, i had a 23hp vanguard on a go-devil surface drive and i was thinking about doing a similar kit and honestly it was cheaper for me to go with a 35hp big block efi and convert my pulley to allow the bigger crank on the big block
@@MrPland1992 alot more reliable in my opinion too
Centofunny_51 since my comment was made I decided to use the 4cylinder from my Honda Civic lmao. It only weighs 60 lbs more than the predator and makes 100hp.
Greg, you do a great job with all your videos.I am almost 63 years old,and have worked on Karts since I was 9 years old, and only had older guys with little patience for kids to show me anything on "How to". These fault finders commenting are silly as all get out. There is so much knowledge online! They have no idea how lucky they are that people like you take the time to show them anything! I progressed to building dirt track late models, and now make parts for the Nascar world. I watched your video on the billet flywheel, cam , valve springs, and Mikuni VM-22 for guidance to build a Predator Hemi for my 8 year old Grand Daughters Jr. dragster. It ran almost dead on her required 11.90 index, her first ever pass down the track,on gasoline. Engine builders are charging $2000 for an alcohol engine to do that! A little jet and gearing tweaking and I think it could run low 10s ( when she has more seat time!). Keep up the good work! Proverbs 1:7
And it's free. A lot of these guys are way under appreciated.
It's a YT thing. Apparently the swarm of anonymous accounts who are "expert engine builders" with 35+ yrs experience telling him how he's doing things wrong, yet they themselves have not even tried to help anyone out with their alleged treasure-trove of knowledge. This would have been fun to have when I was a kid, but now I'll just have to wait until I have a kid of my own to play with this stuff.
I couldn't agree more, years ago when I was 15 yo. and I had to rebuild my first bike's single-cylinder engine, there were no FREE and INSTANT helpful resources like YT.
We had to learn on our own. I didn't have anyone to show me how to build engines. I taught myself. I remember taking apart my kawasaki 90 and asking my dad to help me put it back together. He told me if I ever wanted to ride it again I would have to figure it out for myself.
Perfectly said!!👍🏻
And Amazing results with that build 🍻💪🏼💪🏼
I don't even have a 670 but enjoyed watching because This really is an invaluable video for those planning a 670 build, rebuild or even just repairs down the road. Anybody with common sense and basic tools (&at least basic mech abilities) can confidently at very least open up the top end, remove, replace and repair or upgrade various components with little worries with this step by step walk through.. thanks for your time and effort
sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid lost my password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
@Donovan Kieran i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Donovan Kieran It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account !
@Nasir Kody You are welcome xD
Cameras on smartphones made it so much easier to do things like this. I remember when I had to write down the order of every part I removed and the bolt lengths so it would all go back together without having a mysterious bolt or 5 left at the end. Great job, excellent tutorial. Two thumbs up.
This was a really well done video ! One of the best on you tube ! Thank you for the hard work making it ! I really appreciate your time and effort !
It would be nice to see a stock configuration performance and then a modified configuration performance to see what kind of gsins you achieved

Hi Greg, watched your videos for years and I've never seen a Chanel make so much progress in the quality of builds and in the quality of videos themselves, you are one of the most informative people I've come across while being entertaining the whole time, keep up the good work all of you at RBG!
Thank you for supporting and watching us over the years. We wouldn't be anything without people like you.
Man it's hard to believe you all blown up like you have own business I'm so happy for y'all y'all are good people and you deserve it
Excellent video , information.,nicely done. Thaks..keep the good work. This is how a good youtube video must be done.
WOW!!! I like the intro and I like that you show the tools needed in the bottom corner!
One of the best video productions on CZcams. Everything perfectly explained. Super job!
Love that motor and want to eventually put it one of bikes. Thanks for all you do!😎👊🏼
That's a nasty sounding little beast!!! I can't wait to see that thing shred some real estate!!!

Awesome detailed build. This looks like it would be amazing in some kind of quad or side by side.
I love these engines so much. Sound so good with a cam and open pipes. And last forever too. I really want one.
I commend your efforts to teach the younger kids out there. I wish there had been someone like you when I was a kid.
There was, however people didn't have time or effort to play on yt. Nowadays its an addiction, take it or leave it.
Both ways are good. Sometimes you just dont learn without doing it yourself the hard way, even without someone else's knowledge
@@constitutionalrepublican1611 I'm 57 and had to learn how to work on engines by myself. I got my first motorcycle when I was 8 and my dad told me that I was responsible for maintaining it properly. The first time I decided to take apart the engine I asked my old man for help in putting it back together. He said "you took it apart, you can put it back together if you ever want to ride it again". My curiosity about how things work has been a blessing and a curse, but I rode that bike again and dozens since then so it all worked out for the best. Thanks for the info and what you do to help others. God bless.
@@michaellinner7772 I'm 33 but live by the old ways, last of a dying breed my kids will live my ways of they won't be happy kids.
I dont agree with society and I'm sure you dont either.
They'll learn how to make, break, fix and mix all kinds of things together to get the job done.
That applies to mechanical, body, and farming and shooting etc.
If they fail while im alive they'll probably regret it when I am gone in the future.
That ending though.
That sounds filthy. I think I may have to try and ship one out to Australia for a play. Keep it up man!!
Awesome! Love the channel and the build! I can’t wait for you to use it!
This is the most clear, thorough, easy to follow u-tube video I’ve ever watched. This guy needs to stop working on engines and start training u-tubers.😂👍😂👍
Sweet build. Cars and cameras will be jealous
Years ago the guys at OCC built a chopper for a lawn mowing company. This motor mated to a five or six speed trans would be awesome on a bike. Great video guys, thanks for sharing.
How would you combine it with a 6 speed?
It really wouldn't because most v twin 700cc engine make almost 100 horsepower
What does that have to do with anything? A bike with one of these engines and a six speed would work great (just like what was said above about the chopper build). I saw that build too, it was awesome. They took that bike on a very long ride with no problems and plenty of power and speed. If you're saying it doesn't need it because it has plenty of hp, look what's usually mated to the trans. And how? " One way is an open Belt Drive w/ Ball Bearing Lock-Up Clutch. Or just a regular primary. Not sure why it hasn't been done yet on one of these building videos. Would make a badass little street legal everyday rider. To each their own though, just my two cents.
Tim Brown I think it would be awful; way underpowered.
Man I must say your vids have come a long way. Very professional, no nonsense, I dig it!
Dude? Can't imagine what that engine can do now! Nice vid and awesome build . . .
Can't wait till you put this on a frame, I hope you'll build another frame from scratch especially for this mean engine

Great build. Looking for and engine for my E/AB aircraft, original design was for a 1/2 VW. Just a tad but heavier but a lot more power.
Sir, you are a master mechanic. I would have to be reborn again to do what you just made look so easy...... Good job buddy, good job.
I have watched this video at least 12 times in my time working on my engine. MAN is this a helpful video
Salute Red Beard’s Garage
With the great performance you give off man salute salute
Ooo new intro and style of filming. I like it, great videos👌🏻👍🏻
I really like your engine builds and I'm not even building anything. Your engine build vids almost make my mouth water over these engines. They're cheap engines, but that's half the fun.
Spectacular, that fascinating engines, practically unknown in Europe :-), congratulations for the expertise and attention in the processing.
This LOOKS and SOUNDS badass, can't wait to see what will be done with this one.
It rocked the bench!! Just watch the battery. If that was not bolted down, it would have launched across the shop!
And he didn't even shave the head or polish the exhaust ports! That has to be 50 HP or more.
@@jlucasound He said 30 hp at one point in the video.
40 hp is pretty good. I put my 73 Harley Davidson Sportster XLH on a Dyno and it only had 45HP and that is with a 1000CC V Twin Ironhead engine.
It started up and i got the chills! What a big difference!
Thanks for taking the time to make these video. I will be using a 670 to power my ELSA.
Perhaps you can do a 670 build for A/C use. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Awesome work Red Beard thanks for the edjamaction!!! As always YOU RAWK!!!
They are not actually lifters they are cam followers but I know what you meant. You can actually take your smart telephone along with this video and completely disassemble this engine and completely assemble it back in running condition just using this video stopping and starting as you work. I don't know of any other video that allows you to do this. What a very concise and perfectly described video on how to teardown and reassemble this engine. Wonderful job. No needless chatter or comments just precise instructions. Perfect. I wish others would follow your lead on editing and finishing their videos.
Actually they are called solid tappets, identical to the type used in a Y-block Ford V8.
First class demonstration video. Thanks..!
I enjoy watching your builds 👍
If I was ever going to use a lawn and garden engine it would definitely be a V twin engine for sure. I’m am more partial to motorcycle engines on my projects though.
lol i just use what i have laying around
I need a light weight 4 stroke to replace my Rotax 52 hp two stroke, in my experimental airplane. The Rotax is awesome, but I need better fuel economy to increase range and endurance.
I'd like to do this with my mud motor but I feel more comfortable with the stock air box configuration on the water.
Love the bench setup for running the engine!
You can always tell about about a guy who loves being a great mechanic; He's got bloody knuckles!
I'm picturing this engine with a turbo matched up to a 5-speed in a single-seater mini sand rail
That’d be badass!
Anyone else felt a rumble in their chest when he reved it
I did
This is one of your best video's. Thanks, Can't wait to see it run on something.
That's a nice clean build and it sound sweeet. In the 80's and 90's I built and raced small capacity 4 stroke bikes and spent a lot of time tuning engines very like this one, for example a CB250k4 Honda revving to 14.5k. There's a lot of simple things that look like they would be effective in this type of engine, happy to pass on if you think it would help.
You need to build a adult size mini bike with a 670 monster Predator motor.
That thing is gonna be crazy
Awesome video!
I'm going to build one for a golf cart
One of the best instructional videos I’ve seen in years!
Any bottom line to add re: 1) total cost of after-market parts; and, 2) hp gain?
I know cars and cameras has one making a bit over 60hp.. Similar parts list too..
This video is a perfect instructional video for guiding a person through the steps of a 670 build, my hats off to RED BEARD!! He has an excellent channel I will continue watching all his videos. GREAT STUFF HERE!!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The lazy Susan disc on the bench is brilliant! I'm stealing this idea thanks for the great video.
Bad ass build! Looks like this thing is going to haul some serious ass. Im takig a different direction with my 670 boardtrack racer build on here, focusing on making it look like an old v-twin. Hopefully it will still make some good power.
This is an old post but I would like to ask a question. How has the engine held up since the modifications and what has the performance been? Where is the sweet spot for the RPM's and total weight? It's quite interesting and a few people, along with myself, might consider this as a replacement for the discontinued Rotax 503 engines.
I'm pretty sure it caught on fire and burned to the ground
@@bigandlittlefirearms8395 pretty sure it did, never addressed the issue @7minutes... if you miss it look closer.. or just use a Honda!
@@imcrazy7608 i cant find the issue HELP!
Could you do a Predator 708cc 22 HP V-Twin Engine next?
He would have to convert it from vertical to horizontal but it would be cool
@@js_1995x im always supporting more cubic inches!
You would get more cubic inches by turning it into a stroker. For example a 350 Chevy stroked out becomes a 383 stroker. This is just from adding different connecting rods and crankshaft.
@@isaacvoeller3208 ...crankshaft with a longer stroke being the most important part of the deal.
by changing the rods, good lord
The crankshaft is also Part of it but the rods make the whole thing stronger which is important.
and now i know, if I were to ever get a 670 :-) Awesome job RBG!
Sounds like music to my ears. Can't wait to see it on something
Apparently some engines out there have forked rocker arms, which allow a single pushrod or cam lobe to actuate multiple valves. In theory, the engine can pull in huge amounts of air for more power, so I wonder if these can handle that kind of treatment.
custom heads would be needed to do that on the predator 670..
Man.. there are at most two bearings in this whole engine! None on the camshaft or wrist pin.!! The video was much better quality though :)
Wrist pins never have bearings except for small two strokers with needles in the rod end. Bushings work as long as they have oil.
Most engines have no bearings in the cylinder head. The cams run direct into the aluminum. Run the oil dry and the head casting is toast along with everything else.
Thanks for taking the time to upload this video. :)
Phenomenal tutorial!!! Made easy!! Love this
You should build these and sell them I'd like one for my cart.
they sell stock ones at harbor freight, and they got other motors too like a 79, 212, 301, and a 420
@@jackmiller4706 he's saying red beard should sell built up performance predators for people who don't want to modify them themselves.
I would have thought a 670cc motor could crank out more than 30hp. Still I'd like to see what it can do with a turbo or supercharged
I have a complete Briggs vanguard 670 in the garage that I want to put on something. Your build was very clean
Wow! That sounds insane!!
he needs to put a billet flywheel on dat ting
Heavy stock flywheel makes for more torque. We are building this for off road not high rpms
@@RedBeardsGarage Good point. At first I thought the same as CC, but maybe I have been watching too much C&C. Just kidding. Can't watch too much of either!! :-) Excellent presentation RBG. Just Subscribed. Actually, I watch Mustie1 a lot, too. You guys are all awesome.
another bonus as far as i can tell is the charging system is retained with that factory flywheel, too!
Stock flywheel are always good to reuse because of the ability to keep the electric start system and also the capability to change the battery which is good thing if you plan on using any kind of lights on the vehicle or motorcycle you’re building the engine for and further more a billet aluminum flywheel that is capable of handling a electric start system won’t hold up very long and you would have to add a pull start system at some point unless you want to have to keep replacing the billet aluminum flywheels because of teeth wearing out because of the starter which will cost you a lot of money in the long run.
@@rustybeatty6567 You can press a steel starter ring on to the Billet flywheel then pin it in place. Best of both worlds.
Watch your knuckles on the crank case edges. I’ve cut my knuckle to the bone on those
The float type caburetor could be a big issue in any aircraft application- and oil starvation due to G forces.
Can't wait to see the buggy with all its new mods and back out there on the trails again.
Keep up the good work RBG..
I wanna see see this on a zero turn mower
Literally two minutes before this was published cars and cameras uploaded a video about their performance 670
I was watching cars and cameras when I got the notification for this video
lol we all did the same thing, cars and cameras (because they uploaded 10mins prior), then "ooo red beard has a video up, I guess I'm not going to sleep just yet, what the heck, it's only 2am in australia".
Jacob Stofmeel nice. #nosleepgang
Kart Kid with utter failure....
Hopefully RBG has the upgraded magnets in the performance flywheel so that way the engine will still have spark. Otherwise there will be a no spark problem just like cars and cameras.
Hey Greg , awesome video, the one I was waiting for , a 670 performance build
Great work. That thing must kick ass.
Hello not to be rude.. Your videos would be a lot better and easier to hear your break down of the components if you could dial down the music or have it slightly playing as a lesser sound so you could be heard more clearly.. however I love the video and all of the details.. great work.
Might want to get higher temp magnets for the flywheel, since ike and John were having problems with the magnet loosing strength from being too hot
they were using an aftermarket flywheel setup from performance 670, rbg put the stock flywheel setup back on this one,
Jake Wright Red Beard used Factory flywheel to wear cars and cameras used an aftermarket
Oh ok
Lol the 670cc predator is a waste of a engine its extremely slow for being 670cc carsandcameras should have put the 900cc ducatii engine on the dragster
Michael dorn yep they still can
awesome Gregg, that engine is beautiful.....................thankyou Sir
Awsome! Well done video!! Very Professional!
Did I miss the part where he installs the catch can?
This is what I came here to see, and it just teleports on near the end lol. I was hoping to see where one of the hoses comes from.
Now, mount that on a large frame bicycle!
This is very good info!!! What a great engine this would be for an off-road 4-wheeler... His techniques are good, but he needs to be wearing latex gloves when handling internal engine parts... The oils from the human skin can cause bearing failures.... I did like his improved techniques of removing the flywheel... The use of a puller toll , will prevent damage to the main ball-bearings of the crankshaft... Much better , than his earlier videos of using a hammer and smacking the crankshaft!!!
Nice thorough video thank you!
my friend I have problem to my honda 630cc v twin its not work maybe you can help, can I get your contact
what's the symptoms? does it flip over when you crank it? does it try to catch? check your carburettor is tuned for the altitude. check there's petrol in the petrol tank. check both spark plugs receive a spark.
@@ellenorbjornsdottir1166 it probably won't start i guess
Do these engines have aluminum push rods I haven't played with a 670 before I've been doing Briggs stuff for my drag mower but thinking of going to predator engines on it
no, don't believe they do.
Yes sir they do
Do they make a steel replacement oush rod for them I have a problem with steady runs the intake push rod starts giving away and cause problems on the Briggs engine on those you can sub the exhaust push rod which is steel
Yeah Performance 670 has them
Red Beard's Garage thank you for the information sir
Explained it beautifully!
awwww man frikn luv red beards garage... like early occ without the drama...
Sounds like a pissed off lawn mower.
Thats because that is exactly what this motor is for lol
Why didnt You tap the holes while engine was stripped??
I was wondering if anyone else caught that LOL.
Great job , excellent welding .
Great information, great video! Thanks!
Dip your tap in grease and the chips will not fall down inside of the engine.
Duke Craig if any did fall into the crankcase they'd be in an oily clump and easy to wipe up. I like to use a small shop vac with a pinpoint attachment. Either way cutting oil should be used when tapping threads.
If you're so far into it that you can pull the crank out, then pull the crank out, plug the hole with clean rags tap it, then wash the entire block aabout 4 times with a pressure washer.
At the beginning you showed a Billet Flywheel then when you put it back together, you didn't use it!
What's up with that?
The engine they showed with the billet flywheel wasn't a 670.
@@dirtyfax yep it was a 212 not a 670 cars and cameras did a predator 212 hemi build where they shaved the head and ported the valves and it made about 22hp and it was a single cylinder ohv motor so the 670 v twin will probably make atleast 40 hp or so
Why you ask because of usability a Billet Aluminum flywheel you give up two of most important things electric start and charging the battery which sucks if you plan on using the engine on a motorcycle or ATV/UTV because of lights and other electric things like a electric winch or trail lights speedometer and so on.
@@illusiveduelist4959 I would question the 22 HP on the 212.
