"treated like dirt" is inherent, in a system that literally tells you, "you do not deserve enough money to live on. You do not deserve healthcare."
It's depressing and there are few people who make just as little as I do defending this system for God knows what reasons.
In my country most people make 5$ a day. 😔
@@wineaddict6625 and I'm sure the employers resent giving even that much.

While I am happy this show enjoys a very international audience, I'm deeply saddened that more in the US do NOT listen to this show or even other shows like it... At least the younger generations make me hopeful.
@@bootstraphan6204 Well it makes sense that they don’t have a larger audience based in the US since these guys rarely ever know what they are actually talking about...

Glory to the great nation of Chattanooga!
I know a former gangster, he's a crypto miner now.
If nobody wants to work anymore, how come all my friends are doing hundreds of applications a week and can't get an email back?
I know you might be sarcastic or wtv but what is actually going on is people are leaving their job for other avenues either a better paying one or doing free lance online. I don’t remember the exact stat but apparently more than half of those people who are leavings their jobs are actually just moving into another type of job and it is only a minority who are living with their savings or family.
I'm in the same boat. Over the last three years, I've sent too many to count and haven't gotten more than a handful of interviews. A lot of listings aren't even real- they're forgotten, scams, MLMs, ploys for PPP loan forgiveness, to make a company look like it's growing, or to drive up followers on LinkedIn.
The job market is a soul-crushing Sisyphean hellscape.
Mashallah daddy The Deprogram has uploaded
bringing up the Tennessee Valley Authority broke my southern heart, basically it was a federal infrastructure project during the Great Depression and was meant as a model for future country-wide projects. That got killed under Truman and there's been a massive movement to privatize it ever since :/.
The story of America 😮💨
The TVA almost single-handedly saved Tennessee from the cycle of poverty post-Civil War and is a huge reason why Tennessee is in such great economic shape today.
The reason we all need to carry cash for tips because of employers wage theft. Managers can recalculate tips from card use to the workers disadvantage.
Hey guys! Loyal listener here. I'm a chattanooga native! Can vouch it's real and as dumb as you think
But JT is right. The music and art scenes are pretty great. AND Samuel L. Jackson is from here. So there's that too.
Love having you around! Our sincerest apologies for all the memeing on your (probably very lovely) town haha
We'll make it a point to visit Chattanooga if us three are ever all in the US at the same time lol
@@YaBoiHakim No reason to apologize at all! I thought it was hysterical and loved it! But IF you guys are ever together and travel you definitely should come to visit the city. It'd be great!
@@YaBoiHakimmashallah. Daddy hakim responded. 2 years ago
Expanding on your talk of sonic restaurants and tipped minimum wage, Sonic actually goes through a lot of trouble to make sure their servers never get tipped. Even going so far as to give write-ups and terminations for accepting tips. The online/app order tips also never go to the employees, the company pockets it. Source, my cousin worked there in 2019.
Keep in mind sonic is a franchise and that could have been 1 shady owner.
Sonic is awful lol. Garbage food and garbage pay.

Ahh the Deprogramm has uploaded. Finally I can light a cuban cigar and chill for some time
These guys, their solo content, Chapo trap Haus, and other fun light commie content is what I smoke weed and play Hitman to. I'm basically Yugopnik, but a mixed American kid, and instead of burgeoning alcoholism, it's a disgusting amount of cannabis.
But I love me a nice Cuban and a drink.
@@noname-bu1ux not so much on the weed game, but cigars (especially Romeo y Julietas) are my maximum chill thing paired with a good commie show. A nice drink is always pleasant too :)
@@federicus1517 I like your taste in cigars already, I'm a macanudo man myself
@@noname-bu1ux actually I have never had one. There is just so many cigar brands… For now I have mostly had cuban cigars (hoyo, romeo y julieta, cohiba etc…) and some from dom rep. But I‘ll try a Macanudo next time I buy some. :)
That's how you do it. I'm just a Monterey guy at the moment.
And Sonic doesn't even have a way to include a tip when you pay on a card. You have to give them cash. Who even carries cash?

Okay Eva Longoria was on Desperate Housewives. Modern Family was Sofía Vergara. Get your American sitcom shit together, gentlemen.
Bum-fuck nowhere is expensive, too. I live in Manhattan and my friend who stayed in the no-stoplight county we grew up in pays the same in rent that I do when you factor in all of her car expenses.
Also, fun fact about Arkansas: landlords there are not required to keep their rental properties in a habitable state. Another friend found that out the hard way with black mold.
Yugopnik is my spirit animal
Republican/Conservative types will talk about how minimum wage jobs are meant to be for teenagers - who live with their parents etc etc and that's why they don't deserve to be paid much - then they come out with BELOW that minimum wage for ACTUAL TEENAGERS (14-16 year olds) the ones that would actually be living with their family and not having bills to pay (supposedly as if a bunch wouldn't be giving their pay check to their parents to help them) because if they paid minimum wage it would be the same as adults and that wouldn't be right - so uhm - which the fuck is it???
The crazy thing about Republicans is a lot of them are poor or middle class. Yet they vote for things that benefit the rich, first and foremost.
But...But Kim Kardashian said if we have a positive attitude and just " get the f@*k up and work" then we too can be just as successful as her and her family
As an American the work situation is astoundingly bad.
I spent all last year working 6-7 days a week in healthcare, ultimately burned out and switched to working as a chef (it's bad when working in a hot kitchen is less stressful than your former field of employment), and I made less than 30k last year.
I live month to month with an old hippie paying $850/mo, I luckily live in a state where I qualify for low income health insurance so I was able to get some health concerns addressed without going into debt, but the dichotomy of "employee" jobs vs "independent contractor"/ gig work where you get taxed MORE (I was misfiled as an independent contractor for a family i worked for instead of household employee so I bear the burden of all the tax), no worker protection if you're an IC, and even employee protections are not as strong as people think (for example it was perfectly legal to work a 24 hour shift, and it's legal to be scheduled way more days in a row than people realize).
Things have gotten worse during pandemic, many places boast a "higher wage" (usually $17/hr) yet you're really doing the job of two people now that businesses are used to being understaffed and that's the norm.
Not to mention because of my name and appearance I often get mistaken for Hispanic and assumed as an "illegal immigrant" (what a loaded term) and even in the year 2021 I've been offered a job for less than the federal minimum wage (which you're right is still right around $7) and the workers there gave me the eyes saying "run far far away".
What a shock an illegitimate country founded by people who loved loopholes in laws still has a system in place with barely bare-minimum laws that are spun as luxury first class treatment that many people who work do not even get protected by.
on the lifestyles portrayed in the media from the US - the people in my circle complain about how unrealistic the lifestyles on TV are portrayed - I'd never considered that part of the reason is legitimately to delude the rest of the world - not just a completely out of touch bourgeoisie class who has no clue how most of the population actually lives, or to attempt to delude young people here in the US
My sister and I have noticed this too. I believe it programs the people to strive to live beyond what is necessary or their means.
@@melelconquistador humans being such social creatures has rendered us far and away too gullible and easily led.

Interesting, I had an exam in english once where we were suppose to watch video and answer questions. And the video is just muricans bringing clothes to laundry drive thru and then going to get food from any fast food drive thru. At the end a man is like "yeah it is a bit sad that we can move around easier with car than by walking"
Great recommendation, THANKS!👍
Tipped wage is $2.83. Yeah.
This is in PA
basically the business is expecting its own customers to subsidize their employees wages.
Brutal.
Okay, Hakim saying about the Home alone house being big, like every renovation usa tv program has the people searching for houses with atleast 4 bathrooms
It's my state of Wisconsin that was trying to lower the legal working age.
From personal experience I can tell you Germans are also very reserved when talking about their earnings. My dad never told me how much he actually made. And I actually got fired once because I talked about my wage with my coworkers. Because my former boss had to justify why I (just started working there) made more than the people who have been with the company more than 3 years. We worked in the same position, too.
your boss wants to underpayment the seniority

I dunno if the podcasters will see this but I am getting godawful right-wing videos recommended at the side about 'deconverting from being LGBTQ' right next to ones about 'opening your mind to theism'
SAME!! Turning Point USA and PragerU ads right before and throughout the video. It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so annoying lol
I left a majority report video on and fell asleep then woke up to Turning point usa
Wow! I'm loving this podcast. I'm glad I found my way here. I really hope the Great Resignation gets worse with full on mass walk outs and labor stoppages. A LOT of industries are WAY over do for a mass movement of workers. Thanks for posting this stuff to CZcams. Without it I would have never heard this podcast since I HATE Spotify.
Yugopnik at after 40 min said something that reminded me of another point I've heard. I've heard that if you pay someone a million every paycheck, no matter what they do, that they'll expect that next time. I think capitalists act that way without realizing it and project that onto labor.
I always thought tipping was such a dirty business model. How are you going to have me pay for your employees to live after I already paid for their service and your service. That is so messed up.
As a person from Chattanooga, who is typing this message from my downtown Chattanooga job, I can confirm it is pretty expensive here. I have to figure out how to make $40 feed me over the next 2 weeks while being underweight to the point where I should be eating 3k calories per day...
By the time you're 80, you don't need to search for the goods because you already know where they are 😉
YESSSS THIS IS LIKE A DRUG TO ME!! LET IT NEVER END!! :D
SAME!
I’d like to hear you guys talk about some of the right wing ideologues that capitalists like to quote. Ayn Rand, Mark Twain, etc. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen people point to Atlas Shrugged as the definitive argument on why you should hate socialism
was this sponsored by chattanooga local government?
The shores of Chattanooga killed me
Episode 18: Yugopnik and Comrade Daddy Doctor Hakim discover the wonders of teledildonics. 😂
“Comrade Daddy Doctor” is quite the phrase
Speaking of an international audience, hello from a Canadian living in Japan!
36:25 Because car ownership is almost mandatory in Texas, to the point where I'm pretty sure the government would outlaw public transit if they thought they could get away with it. On a completely unrelated note, Texas is where several of the country's biggest oil companies are headquartered. Funny how that works.
Seriously though, I've seen intersections in Texas where three of the four corners had a gas station on it. I figure it's only a matter of time before I see one with a station on all four.
I’m from Tennessee. Chattanooga is actually a pretty great and progressive town (for the South). They gave everyone access to cheap broadband internet. They also have some of the best city planners in the state who completely revitalized the river walk and made the town walkable and clean. Awesome place! Wish I could say the same for Knoxville, where I went to university, who elected a fucking wrestler as the mayor and let corporate fast food chains and apartment buildings take over “The Strip”, which is the area where the college students party.
What causes inflation? At least to the extreme we've seen in recent years - the only think I can think of as the main reason is corporate greed and increasing their prices for even the smallest reasons
I've heard that as inflation actually increases corporations use that as camouflage to hike their prices for more profit, then they can justify a price increase cause "muh inflation"
I DISAGREE.

In Canada, it's legal to pay under-18 students less than other workers, and working as young as 14 is also legal, or 12 if you're working on your family's farm.

I just volunteer at a charity. Ive totally given up. I just wanna drink and even thats out of my reach. Im lucky not to be homeless, to play video games, and to be able to smoke.
Before you say im not lazy. Im only doing two days a week but thatll go up to three soon and they are sorting out a permanent place for me, but still, working at a charity for free isnt 'stimulating the economy'. I mean - Pretty sure a lot of us would love to move - but we are so isolated here that responsible immigration that we could actually AFFORD is a mystery. Gotta get a job there, and the whole cultural and language things etc etc - I know it was kind of a joke - but seriously - survival here is becoming increasingly impossible - stowing away in a box seriously becomes a legitimately considered option.
that's always my question to the "if you don't like it leave" bunch 😂 like ok sure, you gonna pay for me to move and find a home and a job in another country? no?
