Lula Roe is Still the Worst

  • I talk about my personal experience with Lula Roe and why I was featured in the Amazon Documentary Lula Rich. In short, the brand sells over priced, poorly made goods, that don't fit well to women who may not know any better. They are predatory and take advantage of people by selling them an unattainable dream. Lula rich is a scam, a pyramid scheme, and took advantage of so many people- most mlms do.

    Yes! MLMs are scams. The real customers are the "sales reps", and everyone else is a second hand buyer. Real companies don't require you to purchase their products in order to sell them back to other people.

      It was like quicksand for the retailers. They buy 100 pieces, but can only sell 40 because the other 60 are fugly. Have to buy more pieces, and the cycle continues. Never actually make much of a profit because only a fraction of the inventory is actually sellable. Let's not even get into the amount of textile waste LuLaRoe contributed along with what I suspect are ethically ambiguous overseas labor practices.

    Thank you for being so honest about it. Companies like lularoe prey on new moms, and single moms by tricking them into thinking that they are "not putting their family first". I was personally roped into a beauty MLM at 16 years old, with the promise of "oh, you'll sell SOOOO much! You'll make SOOO much money!" MLM's are everywhere. Cooking utensils, travel, clothing, makeup, skincare, EVERYWHERE. And some are very cleverly concealed, by being under multiple names.

  • @SewingReport
    @SewingReport Před 2 lety +38

    Wow... I'm an ex-TV producer (local + network news) and the production company *should* have cleared all 3rd party material (meaning any footage/photos you aren't the copyright license holder of) used in the documentary. Sometimes news outlets risk the legal liability and attempt to 'fair use' material, but LuLaRich is a bit different in my opinion because it's a clear cut commercial project, whereas newscasts tend to be more on-the-fly and on tight deadlines for air. Contacting you to license your footage and include you with interviews (of course WITH compensation), I feel would have really added to the piece.
    Was never into LuLaRoe clothing, and I was one of the original viewers of your OG video. It was way ahead of its time.

      this is incorrect. they did not have to gain permission to use her content as she does not have ownership of it. in order to use this platform, you retain copyright but not distribution. you relinquish your ability to govern what can be done with your content. i’m not saying it’s right - i’m just stating that it is the price paid for using the platform. and because this is so, they did not have to contact her directly to use her footage. because they don’t need her permission and she’s not entitled to any royalties.

    • @SewingReport
      @SewingReport Před 2 lety +10

      Yes, there is no excuse for the production company NOT to clear the footage for use with Anna. In my opinion, their argument for 'fair use' is pretty weak, they are just counting on Anna not taking any legal action due to cost of an attorney. It happens all the time with media outlets - they take the legal risk using 3rd party material (stuff you don't own the copyright) because they consider the license holder (owner) to be "low risk." If it's "high risk" they will reach out to the person and get permission. I used to work at CNN, and they have an entire department called Rights & Clearances just dealing with that one aspect. I personally licensed many videos / photos on behalf of the company. Some individuals let us use their material for free or with an on-screen courtesy, others requested payment. It's really not that complicated, you get in touch with the license holder and explain what you're doing and they fill out a release form electronically. But this documentary is obviously a commercial project, and differs a bit from something like a newscast.

    • @weeniehutjr9977
      @weeniehutjr9977 Před 2 lety +4

      they didn’t do anything wrong. she does not own the distribution rights to her content. no one on youtube does. you relinquish those rights when you agree to the terms and conditions of using the platform. she only retains copyright, but her videos can be used by others without her exclusive permission. she is not entitled to royalties. i’m not saying it’s right, i’m saying that the producers of the documentary operated well within the limits of the law.

    • @weeniehutjr9977
      @weeniehutjr9977 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SewingReport that’s wrong. it’s not considered fair use actually. but that doesn’t matter. anna may own the copyrights of her videos, but she relinquished her distribution rights in the terms and conditions. by using this platform, she has granted both youtube and users the right to distribute her content and reproduce it without liability. she does not have the rights to her video. she would only have the exclusive rights if she uploaded on a website in which she is the domain owner.

    FIVE YEARS! I've been following you for 5 years!? Time has flown by. I remember the video so clearly. You really seemed to do your research. When my sister tried to get me some of those leggings I told her HELLLL NO 😅 It took a few more years and the rise of anti MLM youtubers for me to hear any more about them. I haven't seen the documentary but that is extremely unfortunate they didn't contact you before sharing your image.

      @@XGreenXGurlX exactly. I only knew Anna had bought and not sold for them because I had seen the original video. It was with other clips of sellers, but if we consider this situation and extrapolate... I wonder 1) how many were sellers vs. angry customers and 2) did they ALL have their content used without their knowledge???

    I didn't get the impression that you were a seller of LuLa Rue clothing from the documentary; however, I saw your video about LuLa Rue when it came out so I had context. And I thank you for that video because people around me were just starting to talk about it LuLa Rue and I was able to avoid the product. By the way, I've seen your clips in 3 different videos or ads. I don't remember the other two but I did comment previously when I saw one. I knew they stole your footage because they identified you with a fake name (it was a balcony shot from one of your Miami videos when you lived in NYC).

    I bought the leggings before but the leggings at Wal-Mart for $4 fit me better. I was on a Facebook page called Lula On The Low that sold them 80% off. The only way I bought the dresses and still love those. Comfortable and cheaper.

      I have a shit ton of LLR and most I bought for 5-15 each. I did buy some full price and honestly I still wear a lot of it. Mostly their cardigans/shrugs & leggings. Also their vintage inspired graphic tees. I love them. They fit me perfectly.

      @@jenniferrsmith2012 my favorites of them have always been the Randy's and Carly's.
