I have several Jinhao pens. But this one is by far the best of the bunch. It wrote just by posing it on the paper. No need to intervene the nib in any way. Amazing.
I now have a few 9019s and x159s and love all their nibs. I really have to give kudos to Jinhao for stepping up their game. The heartbeat nib is enticing. I'll be adding it to my collection :). Hope you are doing well. and thanks for sharing.
I’ve been looking at Jinhao but have yet to purchase one. I appreciate your presentation of the green 9019. I also appreciate your candid and informal style. Thanks. I just subscribed.
A few years ago I was trolled for writing that the Chinese pen industry is at that crossroad where their Japanese counterpart was in the eighties. Do not forget that all designs began copying some German or British designs back then.
Thank you for the wonderful review of a great value pen. Have ordered this one specifically for trying #8 size heartbeat medium nib popular these days in red colour.. I already have 9016 black in heartbeat medium #6 size
I have two 9019s, the translucent red and translucent blue, neither have that cool heartbeat cut on their nibs. I wonder why, just on the green which is in my Amazon cart 😁 Also my converters don’t look like yours in your green translucent pen, look like the converters in the opaque.
I guess that at this point one more Jinhao pen won’t hurt particularly since Chris pointed out that new and soft heartbeat nib. I think the zig-zag slit may contribute to spread the tines a bit more than the straight slit. Thank you Chris for another good and well timed review. C
I have one in the new red color coming to me. I think the nib is really unique. I don't normally like olive colors, but I'm beginning to wish I'd gotten that color. I'm glad to see it passed muster with you.
I was thinking about ordering one of these just because I was curious whether a nib with a jiggly slit could make ink flow as well as a straight slit . . . or at all. But because Chris has tested this one, I no longer have to wonder about that and, curiosity satisfied, I can now hold out for one in a colour that I like. Thanks, Chris!
Chris, I wonder whether the differences in the converter material and other minor changes in the 9019 are due to different subcontractors, different factories, other factors, rather that updates or improvements to the design of the pen as new colors are added to the lineup. I don't plan to buy this one, as I've put myself on a strict "no new pens" diet for the year. This translates, so far, to my having gotten only four pens to date. Thanks, as always, for your insightful videos.
The 9019 is far too big for my hands, so I went looking on AliExpress and found they have new Jinhao 100's with heartbeat fine nibs. Most were sold out but I got one.
i definitely don't like dry pens, i use medium flow because i use cheap veitnam paper, generally, for writing poetry, and flows like that would bleed to the other side, however, i have found that to be a rare occurance. the u-style notebooks from veitnam are often really good. yesterday, i found a flowery composition notebook at walmart made in veitnam, it shows sheen, no bleeding, and my dark blue ink, i was testing de atramentis sherlock holmes, just barely ghosted, but laying flat, the page was white on the reverse side, so is that no ghosting, idk? @@chrisrap52
Ghosting is OK, bleed through is not. Glad to hear the Vietnamese notebooks are good. Many like them. I've did look for some but didn't find them. No Walmart near me.
Nice review Chris. I could have sworn the nibs were available by themselves several weeks ago!! Now it seems the only way to get one is with a pen attached. Don't know if you have experience with another pen I have on the way, but one that is fascinating. The pen is a 3rd generation Oaso Automatic ink filling pen. I like the idea, but the question is does it live up to its advertised billing?? Cheers.
@@chrisrap52 Here's an update on the Oaso saga. My order of the set on Feb 7th arrived Tues. 5 Mar. The ink bottle is a simple cone section with the filling valve & what seems to be a pump operated by the surrounding orange ring. The pen itself was updated with a flat finial on the cap & a springy metal clip. It is still a demonstrator model pen. The nib and the grip section are Lamy like and I got the fine instead of the extra fine nib. To fill it, I removed the cap, placed the end of the barrel in the inkwell opening over the filling needle and made sure it was fully seated. Then it was a simple matter of pressing the orange 'pump' wring down then letting it up again. The pen started to fill immediately after releasing the orange ring. When I wrote with it tonight, I was so surprised at how smooth it wrote. Not exactly a gusher, the pen is somewhat wet, and not super dry. I think that would be the function of the ink. At a cost of under $30.00 for the kit, I think it was worth adding to my collection. Cheers.
That nib looks like it might be TOO wet. Do you know the purpose of the heartbeat nib design? Is it just a neat- looking gimmick or does it have a real function, like promoting flow or adding flex? Just looking at it, my impression would be that it might increase drying out since the ink slit is much longer.
First it is the look, unique. In the hisrory of fountain pens, a different nib is common. Nib works welll, no drying out. It appears to promote flow based on the standard M nib.
@@chrisrap52jinhao 9016 is using the same one, I think. I was thinking more like a spare part for those pens, in case the one that came with the pen got damaged.
Converters are made well, should have a long life. I'll have a 9016 soon & will confirm converter. I always have a few "spare" pens when they are this inexpensive.
I will have to look for the heartbeat nib. Looks phenomenal. I did get the 9016. It is an extremely smooth writer with a touch of bounce. As for the rattling, it appeared on my 100 Skeleton. It was a bit annoying. The new converter for the 9016 and 9019 seems to fit snuggly. On the 9019 and 9016 there are flanges that hold the converter in place. Someone at Jinhao must have noticed, too. Very nice review, Chris.

I am well. Thanks for asking. Agreed all the Chinese brands are upping their models in their own way.
The transparent coffee colored one is very tempting. Thank you for another relaxing, informative review.

Copy is a strong wood. Emulate, resemble, inspired by. Regardless of the source of design elements, it takes skill to make a good pen.
@@chrisrap52 exactly. My point is Chinese brands are stirring up the industry.
My Heartbeat is due to arrive any day now, along with a new 9016. Can't wait to try them! Jinhao has really upped their game in the last year or so!
Absolutely. All us pen lovers benefit.
i just ordered this the other day!! i'm so stoked to watch this review!!! kismet!
Wonderful, enjoy, stay stoked.
Nice video. Enjoyed it. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Yoooo that's a firehoseeee, your paper doesn't seem to survive
I've had a few pens that will do that.
I got the same green pen and the brown 9016 but I haven't inked them up. I'm excited to ink them up now. It handled shimmer like a champ!
Feeds have generous flow.

Ha ha that is funny :) I just realised it was YOUR video I was watching with the red 9019 - Nice video, thank you.

What makes the "heartbeat" nib so special? Haven't found a satisfactory explanation for it?

In the UK: Just ordered my 9019 with heartbeat nib from Amazon uk (£11.48) - only transparent green (as in the video) available so far.
Works well. Just used mine in a letter today. Still feels good on paper.

The Heartbeat nib looks like a BRASS nib..
By the way.. ¿What's the ink trademark?..
Just color of coating on nib. It is a Chinese ink.

i'm in love with the heartbeat-nib. Is there a way to get only the nib?
Not that I am aware of. Would probably costs as much as the pen & only fit pens that are big enough for a #8 nib.
Great vid, Chris! Are these large converters available to buy separately? I wasn't able to find them.
They wouldn't fit any other pen. The threaded connection is unique to the 9019s.

I'd like to see a chrome finish version.
I could see that it is possible. Jinhao X159 was in both colors.
It's that the heartbeat nib by Jowo? I've seen theirs and it looks more or less the same.
Doubt that. Pen with nib costs less than any nib from Jowo.
If they had a stub nib I'd be buying one in every color
So you only use stub nibs?

Difference between turned acrylic (100) & injection molded, 9019 & 9016. I have not noticed a loose converter on my 100s.

My prediction, never. Not popular in the Chinese market. These M nibs are great, no need for B nib for me to enjoy them.

I know. Not realistic thing, hope.
You might be able to get a fude or a stub at some point. Personally, I'm wondering if Bobby will modify one.
I'm a realist. I live in the now, not the maybe, or want to be. Keep hoping.
it resembles a pilot emperor, which is japanese and not german, you've got your pens mixed up
Lots of similar big cigar shaped pens. Section is closest to the 149.
