I figured the health going down was from the snake, but what other game in history has made poison cross over after you die and respawn? If you die with poison status in pokemon or final fantasy it doesnt start you off with poison again when you restart. That is just weird.

    • @HiddenGemsReviews

It does if your last save was you being poisoned, which is exactly what happened here.

+arbitor365 Because the healing supplies are limited and have to be bought or found throughout the level, so the game doesn't want you to cheat by dying and restarting at full health with no consequence.

My friend thought his copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day was broken when he got to a segment that there was water rising and electrical cables. You can't make it to the other platforms in time without throwing knives at the cables to cut them; that point never occurred to him. Like 10 years after the N64 was even relevant he went to show me the 'glitch', and I figured out to throw the knives. He got real mad and made me leave his house.

With a SKULL AND CROSSBONES in your health bar. What a bunch of maroons. It was fun to watch though. And this game is better than you made it out to be. Maybe not a great game, but a solid one.

  • @JamesNintendoNerd

Update: Apparently if you press start, there is an anti-venom you can use. Well, in this video I kept comparing the game to Ocarina of Time. In that game, when Link gets an item you are very much aware of it. For example, if Link gets the Hook-Shot, he’ll hold it up above his head and triumphant music will play. They make it very obvious that you acquired an item. Here, in this pile of shit Indiana Jones game, they throw items in an inventory without even notifying you. So why would you assume anything was there? Sigh.. I’m going to go play Ocarina of Time now to cleanse my brain.

To be fair, it's pretty stupid how the poisoned state was retained even after they had died and respawned. They got poisoned, they died, okay. But why were they still poisoned after that? It should have reset the state back to normal, the game shouldn't be continually killing you over and over again until you use the inventory item. While its really frustrating that it took them almost the entire length of the video to realise that's what happened and they were calling the game bad as a result of it, you need to admit the mechanic itself was a rather odd design choice.

having to put down your weapons to climb is also pretty stupid, ocarina of time came earlier and this is clearly attempting to be a clone, but link didn't have to do that. He can climb with his sword in his hand and if he needs to climb a ladder he puts it away automatically.

Today, you have all those things, but no manual.

You guys seriously need to be more methodical when approaching games. For starters - Test every single button on the controller, figure out what they do. Had you found the inventory it would have saved you a ton of grief.
Also, having each player repeat the same motion over and over again gets you nowhere. If it looks like you can jump somewhere but can't quite reach it, then you might be doing something wrong.
Reading the manual before doing one of these things would also help a whole lot.

I loved this game as a kid and played it thourgh several times. It's actually supercool, has great different exotic locations and a great story. Way better than Tomb Raider (I played it for PC though) You just played the Tutorial.

The company that made this actually made some really highly regarded games. The company (Factor 5) made the Turrican and Rogue Squadron games.

The thing I loved about this time of games is that not every single person had internet. So you had to figure out the games yourselves when you were stuck. Games these days I rarely get lost or stuck, without even needing to use the internet.

This was actually a really great game. Not quite up to Emperor's Tomb, perhaps, but a fun game all the same. Only part that was really broken was the river rafting portion.

wow, it's amazing (in a bad way) how long it took them to realise, that the Snake poisoned them, though I agree it's ridiculous that the poison keeps killing you even after you lost a life, it doesn't make any sense
maybe they should choose restart level to kill the poison? even though it still wouldn't make any sense

I jus wonder how they could be so bad at games when they play so any of them. Like you said, instead of checking the menu and seeing if there's snake venom. They just write it off as the game is broken, or we saved it during the poisoning. I wonder if they are baked when they play these.

Lucas Winter being baked wouldn’t be an excuse really, I’m better at video games after a good baking session 😂 I think partly it’s just not intuitive to everyone that you would start the game with something like antivenom quite a few of the games they grew up with in particular made you have to find that type of stuff and tended to have weird mechanics so their assumption is that this is like those.

  • @swissmrkc
    @swissmrkc Před 9 lety +46

James and company can be a little slow sometimes. Like, they really think getting bitten by the snake is an automatic game over, it doesn't occur to them that there just might be a way to remove it.
