As many times as I have ridden a hay rack and watched those new holland knotters do their work, I still don’t know how they figured it out. To make a knot that small so fast. It’s one of the most amazing inventions ever. This is a great video. I watched it a few times and it still doesn’t make me understand how they work! I must be old! Lol!

Invented by John Francis Appleby, an American. When he told his friends that he was going to develop device to tie knots so sheaves would not have to be tied by hand they thought he was crazy! Well he proved them wrong didn't he? In my humble opinion he should be as well known as Harry Ferguson but he seems be all but forgotten.🤔

I know what you mean. I have always been in awe over this invention. It is kind of like a sewing machine and I haven't been able to understand that principle of operation either. Somehow the needle goes down to where the bobbin is and grabs an extra thread and brings it back up.

I grew up on a farm and put my hands on thousands and thousands of bales and not just on our farm either, but not once have i ever messed with the knotter. Mostly John deere & New Holland balers is what our farm and neighboring farms used.

YES! LOVE IT! Ive ALWAYS wished i could see this happen! Now i need a camera holder to see why my darn string tie misses on one side.. I think its not cutting the string off then it pulls the knot apart

Back in the 1970s the mechanics went to a 3 day workshop how to adjust and what parts needed replacing if knots didn't tie. It is a lost art.

Watching them even with it slowed down doesn't help fix them until a light comes on. Knew a man that was good at figuring out about anything his brother didn't seem very smart even a little slow but when it came to bailers the smart brother would get his slower brother to fix it
