When i was young my Dad used to sit and play GOW with me, i have some of my fondest memories trying to kill RAAM, the GEARS 2 then Gears 3. I lost my Dad to Cancer 2 months ago and I have really been looking for something to look forward too, a sign of sorts, that hes still with me and this trailer has really given me everything I could ask for and more. I will be playing this for you Dad

For all the men around 30-40 years old, this hits the hardest. Gears 1 was one of the greatest times in gaming for multiplayer right alongside Halo 2 and 3. Cliffy B will always be a legend in my eyes.

Seeing the unanimous widespread hype for a new Gears of War game for the first time in over a decade feels unreal… it shows how much love we all still have for the franchise from how impactful the original trilogy was, despite the hard times we’ve fallen on in recent years. The Coalition has restored our faith in our favorite series. I hope this game lives up to expectations and is massively successful!

I love how its acknowledged just how strong a drone is. Makes sense that they'd want each cog soldier to be as strong as possible.
Being so early in the invasion as well, Marcus and the COG are probably still learning how tough the locust really were
I was confused at first by how strong it was but now knowing more it makes sense and genuinely gets me excited

Imagine being a nameless cog soldier with a carmine helmet retro charging a locust and as you go to throw the drone off after impaling. the blade just breaks off.
After all the locusts are tough bastards there basically just bio weapons after what was revealed in gear of war 5
I hope they include the scene where they first discover how effective a chainsaw is on the Locust.
My theory is that you'll get the chainsaw Lancer like halfway into the game. It'll be like the God of War 2018 getting the Blades of Chaos nostalgia.

The very soft Mad World playing in the background was the perfect touch
In the beginning I could swear it was the part of the Gears2 soundtrack when Dom finds Maria. And then it morphs into Mad World. TLC just pulled my heartstrings.

I love the fact that they're finally showing the immense physical strength of the Locust. Being able to pick up a very large man in armor made from Osmium with little effort is an intimidating thing to witness.
But then his friend picks him up from falling with one arm. Guess humans are super strong too

I believe lore wise the average Drone is pretty similar to COG soldiers? This is more a symbolic struggle IMO - you got fresh baby Marcus who doesn't know what he's doing, with a thousand battles ahead of him. He manages to take down this one guy and then the floor collapses to reveal the end of the world happening all around him.
They nailed that hopeless vibe IMO.
@@alastormedial lorewise, drones are physically MUCH stronger than humans, they also have 'natural armor' due to their thick skin. Which is why the cog developed the chainsaw bayonet for the mk2 lancer. The bayonets of the mk.1 either broke on impact or barely pierced the skin of the drones.

This looks very promising and excited that this story line is happening 18 years before the first gears of war, which means if they play their cards right we could possibly be looking at more gears of war games in the future since they have an 18 year gap of story line that they could fill. 🎉
My dad got me gears 3 before he passed, he got me into Gears we used to play it all the time. I’ll be playing this in memory of him. Thankyou for bringing the boys back together and giving me something to reconnect with the memories of my Dad.

Doing this prequel (before presumably working on Gears 6) is actually such a genius move. Give fans exactly what they've been wanting for years, build up a ton of hype and reinvigorate the series, then release Gears 6 when excitement is higher than ever.

When Dom showed up, I legit started tearing up when I noticed the background song is the same song that played during Dom’s death back in gears 3. The slower pace of it is really making the memories flow of back when me and brother used to play this game all the time and how this scene had little me in tears; god I’m so excited for this..

The fact you see how he struggles fighting one grunt, his first ever encounter with one is crazy. Compared, to seeing how he becomes this locust killer with ease, this trailer just shows how outmatched the COG was at the start with your average soldier.
i hope they bring back the visceral nature of impact the combat used to have in the original trilogy and really make the firefights/hand to hand executions feel tactile. i liked 4 and 5 but the tone took a step back. still had plenty that made them feel like gears tho imo and i have a ton of faith in the coalition based on the decision to do a e-day game before gears 6 alone.
they know weve been screaming for a gears collection but this is a genius way to give us characters we love and want to play as again but tell a new story
I loved the fact that he has a retro lancer, the Cog learned early on the beyonet was nexr to useless against their hide but the locust can throw around the average fully geared soldier with ease.
The drone should have killed Marcus easily. He had just chucked him across the room and bashed him against the ceiling. But all of a sudden can't easily overpower Marcus with the blade?😂😂 tf outta here pls

I don't comment on videos much... as a content creator and someone who has put well over 10,000 hours into this series... This is the first time in over a decade I have had full confidence in Gears of War again. This game has been a large part of my life, traveling to events, playing in online ladders and tournaments, being apart of Gamebattles staff for Gears of War. This trailer is what the Gears of War games are about, a tough fight, losing everyone, and the dark grit and emotion... I truly hope, you guys don't mess this up
This trailer does a great job of showing just how strong the Locust are. This is just a normal Locust Drone, and it's way larger and stronger than a younger Marcus Fenix, throwing him around with ease and barely being phased when he hits it. It's only once he manages to get his Retro Lancer up in its face that he finally kills it.
And yet michael barrick killed two of them with his bare hands
The whole fight to me really shows us how the whole war was mostly a one sided fight with the locust but humanity managed to pull through in the end.
Imagine fighting a Grenadier or Theron guard😮😮😮😮hand to hand. You would need to be build like Brock Lesnar 😮😮😮
It’s actually pretty terrifying, imagine the bigger Locust like Boomers, Therons, and ESPECIALLY monsters like RAAM and Skorge… don’t even get me started with the non-humanoids.
@@seventrue871 He was also not trying to live, he was dying of rust lung and did not care if he lived so he went all out.
Marcus also has no experience fighting the locust yet, E-Day was the beginning and even Pedilum War vets like Marcus and Dom had to learn how to fight this new enemy.
The whole reason this trailer is great is it shows how strong and terrifying a common drone is vs someone built like Predator 1 Arnie and again he got his ass kicked by the predator. Marcus and Dutch are big buff as hell strong as shot guys and still get thrown around.
There are a number of people that have commented that seeing Dom back brought them to tears and others just not getting it. Gears of war the first trilogy came out 2006,2008, then 2011. We are just now seeing Dom and Marcus unite as brothers in arms after 13 years. Let that sink in. “Bro it’s not that deep.” Na man. Dom has been dead for 13 years, went out to mad world and we see him come back to the same chords again to only know what is to come of him. Loss. That’s what that feeling is.
I hate to mention this bro, but his kids.
It would probably be better if we actually got SOME sort of HD re-release of the original trilogy so you know, the multiple generations of people who completely missed the 360 era could atleast enjoy the story, and the fans who did play it could relive those iconic moments in the high fidelity they remember it having.

I get chills seeing Marcus and Dom again. I must have been 12-13 years old when I immersed myself in this Gears of War adventure. I'm 29 today, time goes by too quickly…
I’m 28 and played at a similar age. It’s crazy that we were so young watching them fight. And now we’re probably older than both Marcus and dom are in this game. Actually I think we are because Marcus was canonically 21 during E day.
Gears of War was the first truly M rated game I had to ask my parents permission to play, gta, halo, cod were good but gears was different. Seeing the old Gears of War spirit come back brought me back, thank you
I completed Gears of War, Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 on insane with my cousin/best friend.
He died prematurely at 25 unknown reasons in bed, me and a friend were the last to see him alive.
That chilling 6 am call. Then the next one. Then the silence, the denial. Then finally the realisation I will never play with my best friend again.
Thank you Gears of War (and all the other games)

To all Gears of War veterans. If you are planning to play co-op and have the possibility. Please, play with the player. You originally played Gears of War 1 with back on the Xbox 360. The experience of playing Gears of War with the brother you made back then will have a greater meaning.
The amount of things I can say after reading these comments and finally understanding why my best friend/bro dragged me through the entire series when I was whatevers about this game for years makes me happy for us to both be here to gear up on E-day. I think the game needs some transgender and female soldiers who are much stronger than the male ones. Make it like all the modern games. That would be much cooler.
Hopefully it still allows couch co-op. I’m waiting for my son to get a bit older before playing these games with him.

this game prolly had to happen sooner or later. gears of war kinda had no story. didnt mean that was a bad thing per-se but anyone comeing into the series who starts with the 1st game is gonna be sorta lost

The characters in-game drop bits of story all the time, and a lot of the collectables give info on locations and previous events that lead to current ones such as the pendulum wars, and of course there is the gears of war comics that, in my opinion, are actually kinda good and explain good stuff and expand a bit (like when Marcus met Tai Kaliso, or Raam killing Uzil Sraak)
Though I will admit it's not easy to understand if you're not paying attention and aren't willing to read all the collectibles.

My cousin passed away last July and he showed me gears of War when we was 15 and we instantly loved the franchise, I don't have an Xbox anymore but his sister told

My cousin died in a motorcycle accident after I was playing gears 2 with him. He was dead 1 hour later. I told him to stay a little bit longer. Now he is gone forever. This was in 2008
