For those wondering where the name Shamu comes from - Shamu was a young Southern Resident and member of the J pod. Her mother was harpooned and killed in front of her. The traumatized young orca was sold to SeaWorld San Diego in 1965. She became the first superstar of SeaWorld. She died of a uterus infection in 1975. Only 5 out of 166 orcas taken into captivity in North America are still alive - Corky, Lolita, Ulises, Katina, and Kiska. Corky is the oldest orca in captivity. She is from the Northern Resident orca community. She was captured in 1969 in Pender Harbour, British Columbia. She is a member of the A5 pod, A23 matriline. Her mother, A23 Stripe, died in 2000, but she still has relatives in the wild - sister Ripple, brother Fife, niece Midsummer, great-nephews Fern and Ne'nakw, and great-niece Eliot. Lolita was captured in 1970 in Puget Sound, Washington. She is from the L pod of the Southern Resident orca community. Her mother is L25 Ocean Sun (estimated to be 95 years old). Lolita lives in the smallest orca tank in the world. Ulises, Katina and Kiska were captured in Iceland. SeaWorld has eighteen orcas in its collection. Three were caught in the wild - Corky, Ulises and Katina. Fifteen were born in captivity. Lolita lives at the Miami Seaquarium and Kiska lives at Marineland Ontario. Orca captures were banned in North America in the mid-70s. Iceland banned captures in the 90s.

Anyone ever hear of Tilikum the killer whale? In the documentary Blackfish, it's admitted that as a training method, they'd deprive him of food, and punish him for not completing tricks for entertainment. They also paired him up with a very heavily trained whale, and whenever he didnt accomplish the same tricks the other whale did, they'd both get no food for the night. As a result, Tilikum was 'raked' by the other whale. In the morning, the trainers would see that Tilikum was covered in scars and cuts, and he was still performing. He was then on the breaking point. He worked at Sealand, in Canada. He killed a part time trainer, and this person was Keltie Byrne. They were a champion swimmer, as well. He also was at one point shipped to a SeaWorld. There was more reported incidents I'm forgetting, but a very special one happened at SeaWorld. A very professional, very trained, and very emotionally connected person to the whales was sitting with Tilikum, when Tilikum grabbed their ponytail and pulled them down into the tank, and eventually, the whale got their arm and they ended up dying. That was Dawn, the trainer. Basically, Stop capturing whales and hurting them for entertainment and cash.

People tend to ride off these creatures over rare incidents that actually occured due to abusing it. But watching this, I can see why people love them so much. They look like social animal's that enjoy spending time with people, just from what I can see here. Watching 'Free Willy' growing up too, the thing is that even in the wild, these creatures have saved people many times & possess incredible intelligence. More money should be put into stopping the way they are trained in awful ways, understanding them & instead focus on making them comfortable & happy with better training techniques. The water too, I can't imagine that all the chemical's would be that healthy for them & think fresh sea water would be more ideal.
This is so sad it makes me cry. As Joan Jett said, the music they play even gives these creatures psychological problems as it messes with their sensitive sonar capabilities.
I feel the same way. It actually brought tears to my eyes. those poor whales stuck in a small pool when they should be in the ocean, their home where they have miles and miles of space in every direction. I hate humans for how they mistreat animals.
Yeah dude I agree with you but unfortunately if this beautiful animal released in the wild ocean I'm pretty sure you're grandchildren will see them in Google
It's sad to see these majestic beasts in captivity just for our amusement, but at the same time, it's just incredible to see this kind of control humans can have on these animals. And watching them interact gracefully with humans is just unreal.
It's not incredible that humans have control. They basically have no choice! A human would have control over you if they controlled your food source too. It's nothing but manipulation through psychological torture and I'm glad those fuck faces died. Animals should be free.

I make funny content. I have to make u laugh if not my mom will send me back to Africa!
Most of them are actually born in captivity, just so you know..
You're doing the same thing. Do you travel the world? Or do you work sleep eat repeat?
This was my favorite show as a kid 🥺🥹
I love you 😇
What a beautiful show. Doesnt hurt having some orcas in captivity
That’s torture, making them listen to that music.
The whales are so adorable, so cute 🐳 💓
They should be swiming freely and live in the lovely oceans
if they release them they die
They are not whales. They are dolphins. They are called killer whales because they kill whales.
@@kumarsaieshrane9692 are you an idiot
Lovely oceans? Oceans are filled with pollution and these whales kill penguins and seals for daily food so they aren't that cute :/
@@Domgcat You're joking right? If not, then you're the fucking idiot here.
Got recommended after 13years.master peace
They make our world beautiful :)
You know what’s making me really sad is that when i was a kid i loved it, and now im thinking that it is the same orca that i saw 15 years later in the same tiny pool...😣😣😣 what a horrible life..

Excellent!
I saw God of your talent both.
Take care always & God bless you❤

This is scary. I feel suffocated and scared that humans can be so strange. They like troubling every species.
@Tanish Achar they are right. From 100k whales in the early 20th century, whales have been reduced to a disgustingly low number...!!!!!we have slaughtered them till the international outcry in 1986 were whale hunting was officially banned!!!humans are disgusting!
And did you know???more than 10MILLION sharks are killed every year for us to eat SHARK FUCKING SOUP.
Fuck humanity.
@@fayHoran fuck you
@@fayHoran dont get offended you said fuck humanity, i mean fuck you, fuck me, fuck everyone, not every human, stupid, only those who enjoy animal keeper you should, keep the blame on not the humanity, seriously im fed up with these types of comments,
@@fayHoran we did slavery, we invented or are the reason we do sexual assault on animals children and women and men and invented drugs and also invented cultures where we sacrifice and murder others for false prophets and for our false gods, but yeah sure animal slavery is the top problem of humanity?
I dont know? Not like humans and animals evolved to be animals and then we evolved to become something else when furthered?
Спасибо за видео, супер чудо, красота.

Do you eat fish do you consume products from China which have to come by boat which are polluting the oceans on the way
This is so sad it makes me cry. As Joan Jett said, the music they play even gives these creatures psychological problems as it messes with their sensitive sonar capabilities.

It's a shit video whales swimming round in bath tubs
I feel sorry for these beautiful creatures. 😔 They deserve to be in the ocean, not pools!!
I feel the same way. It actually brought tears to my eyes. those poor whales stuck in a small pool when they should be in the ocean, their home where they have miles and miles of space in every direction. I hate humans for how they mistreat animals.

@@michael-fb2jg me too, i dont know what to feel for these people
Yeah dude I agree with you but unfortunately if this beautiful animal released in the wild ocean I'm pretty sure you're grandchildren will see them in Google
13 years later I get this recommendation from CZcams.
Amazing show, human to animals relationship.
It's sad to see these majestic beasts in captivity just for our amusement, but at the same time, it's just incredible to see this kind of control humans can have on these animals. And watching them interact gracefully with humans is just unreal.
Well said.
It's not incredible that humans have control. They basically have no choice! A human would have control over you if they controlled your food source too. It's nothing but manipulation through psychological torture and I'm glad those fuck faces died. Animals should be free.
I had tell another person this
STOP AND FUCKEN THINK WHAT WOULD GO WRONG IF THEY WHERE IN THE SEA THINK WHY ARE THE ALL ALMOST INSTINCKKKK
What if, these beautiful animals, enjoy being here instead of the ocean and we just get it wrong?
