I agree with you. My wife works in health care and feels the same way about scrubs even. She rarely would be seen in public in them unless absolutely necessary. A uniform is a tool for work. It's not an outfit used to look fresh, or to be special. In our opinion, it's prideful. Never use a choice you made to feel special, or above in comparison to others. Any uniform that holds value to our society is an honor to put on. It should not be abused. It's what you do, not who you are. Wear it to serve, not to be served. Different reasoning I guess, but that's my a hole opinion.

The air national guard near me will wear their uniforms out & about. We've seen uniformed Army out in public. Maybe their policies aren't as strict.

Maybe because I was Army and it's not a big deal to be in uniform off post so it's probably just a cultural thing per service. And if marines can't wear there uniforms off base for whatever reason then that's on yall I guess. Most people in The Army don't wear there commies off post for attention or anything like but if they get off work then people tend to run errands right afterwards and that when you see usually see it or during lunch.

Then I had a guy helped me carry my luggage because I was a bit lost and didn't know how to read airport traffic signs. Once I got to my destination the guy immediately demanded payment. Then had the adacity to ask for a large tip. I thought he was being nice this whole time. Yes, this is at the San Diego airport.

Oh man do I got one for you. I’m a Marine as well so I’m very familiar with no utilities off base. Anyways there was this sergeant who was an armory Marine (he’s out now) who took the train from his residence off base right to the town part of base. Mind you that it is a civilian train, that literally left from off base to get him to work. He literally got out of his car, and got a ticket and hopped on the train, in cammies the ENTIRE time. Of course he’s not the only Marine who takes the train because the area I’m at has bad traffic (if you’ve ever been stationed here, you know already where I’m talking about but I’m gonna leave that out ofc). Well sure enough, the base commander was on the train and it’s the ONLY Marine base in the area so he knew it was one of “his” Marines. Let’s just say that same Sgt gave every shop in the unit to include the CO and SgtMaj a class on P1020.34H as well as in depth of leave and liberty uniforms, etc 😂

I mean if they're authorized to wear their camo off base, I can see why they would want to for convenience but I agree with why not just changing over to something more comfortable and not painting yourself as a target. A friend and I both enlisted into military after high school (he went army I went usmc) and we both finished boot around Christmas so we both had recruiters assistance and so we decided to meet up. I came wearing regular clothes and he pulls up in his ACUs. I ask him why and he simply said "because I can". (to this day he still wears his camo off base, he's an E6 now). Just difference in branches I guess 🤷
Also from my personal experience in seeing people wearing cammies off base, sometimes most of them aren't even in service

I’ll give you a few months after you EAS and you’ll be wearing Marine Corps everything along with Marine Corps license plate frames lol. I used to feel the same way. Back in the day Marines were instructed to wear Service Alphas when traveling on orders.

Some folks don't want to change clothes. It is much easier to just stay in uniform and drive home especially if pressed for time. I really don't see your point at all. It's a uniform. Nothing more and nothing less.

I disagree, I like wearing my uniform. Maybe not my NWU all the time. I'm not the type of guy to hangout in my NWU going out to eat in it maybe to stop at the store real quick. I really love wearing my dress uniform. I like to wear it when I go home and to look my sharpest while I see my family. I def don't look stupid in my dress uniform i'll tell you that.

6:33 definitely, having working at Walmart right near a naval base we get alot of sailors. Some even live in my apt complex, other services too. I steer clear. Cuz they mainly ask about PS5s and Xboxs. "And the customer is always wrong"!

Never under stood it either. When I got off work and got home the cammies came off immediately. Idc how much I needed to do those were coming off first before I went anywhere.

  • @jdolzpcgamingnocommentary9k7y4

Back when I was in that was a big no no I got out in 2012 but that's was preached non stop especially in my UNIT out of Camp Lejeune to add though when you've been out as long as I have over a decade wearing a t-shirt of your unit or USMC whatever I don't have a problem with that frankly wear what you want I'll make that clear...but the uniforms yes don't wear them but then again WE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM so at the end of the day do what YOU WANT TO DO..Marines anyway should KNOW NO Marpat aka cammies to people who don't know EVER TO BE WORN other than on base, unless your car breaks down or you have another emergency there is NO excuse to be rocking cammies out in public..and trust me as a SNCO I made people and others besides me remember that!

Only time I can reasonably justify being in utility uniform or dress outside of official business, at least in other branches, is if you're stopping somewhere on the way to/from work. Us Marines don't really get to do that, but I understand it if it's just a matter of convenience.

I feel like it’s attention seeking, like they want a “thank you” or discount on something or to be looked at even. Marines don’t wear utilities in public because it’s a work uniform and isn’t something to be presented in, we have dress and service uniforms when it’s time to be presented
