  • I could only dream of how awesome it would have been to get this Alienware Aurora PC back in the day, so today I am going to rebuild it to its former glory and see how it would have performed in games from the time period.

Alienware was always a dream back in the day. That's about my ability at cable management, just role up the surplus connectors and cram them in an empty Bay. SLI was always hit or miss and it was overhyped. Good video😊

I recently bought a similar Alienware. It was a dream PC of mine as a kid and when I decided to look for one it took me months to find the right one. The PC was actually running quite well for being all original parts but the old Core 2 Extreme and DDR2 were obviously just a little outdated. I guess Ive been slowly turning it into a "super-computer" or at least a high-end gaming PC in today's standards.
I went with a Ryzen 5600x, 32GB of DDR4-3600 and an NVMe drive. All I need now is a graphics card. I am trying to find a decently priced 3080 or maybe even a 3090, if not I may just wait till next generation. Hopefully I can get the original LEDs to work, I wired them up correctly but the software will most likely be the issue.

Will all due respect, if you had actually purchased one 'Complete", you would change/correct your comments. 1. You don't need painted metal inside a case, especially when you can't see it. 2. A see through case would ruin the reason behind it's unique design. 3. Small exhaust fan? it was a large 120mm 4. The HD fan wasn't exhaust, it was intake. 5. There was mostly plenty of cooling via fans only, 1 exhaust and 3 intake (3 of them 120mm and 1 at the HD was 92mm). 5. Also, it came with cable management throughout! These were the best machines back in 2007, i even have the original Alienware Area-51 2002- Chieftec Dragon Case with all components to go along with the P2 case in the video

You're right when you say that SLi was never supported that well, but back when it was still relevant technology, it did scale better than your findings here. I'm not saying you did anything wrong, and I actually really liked the video, but I had two SLi systems several years ago, and they both performed better than this did. So maybe something has changed. I don't know what and I appreciate the video, but I have to believe that SLi did work better back in 07.

I would've went with the Q6000 CPU. Was a beast back in the day. I had the same computer with the Q6600 & 2 XFX 8800 GTS SLI. Intel learned a lesson on the Q6600. Never allow that much headroom or it'll hurt your next 2-3yrs sales. Still have this computer in one of my spare closet collecting dust. Can't bring myself to get rid of it. Might do a future build with this case. That's if the new graphic cards will fit. I highly doubt it though. Might have to cut the side panel.

Sli with lower end cards usually doesn’t work out well. It’s only recommended if you have the best (8800 ultra in this time period) and need more, than double that with another 8800 ultra.

How much more percentage of FPS will 8800 sli give you as opposed to just one card (e.g. 15% difference)?

i know this is a bit old but did you reinstalled the driver after getting the 2nd card working and check the NVIDIA control panel to turn SLI off and back on again yes that works sometimes.
3dmark and Heaven Benchmark can use SLI i should know i use to used 2x 4gb 980's in SLI
