I might be wrong about this, but if memory serves about a month ago Whitebeard was $30 and the extra deck cards (besides blackbeard) were all over 10. I was looking into buying the set shortly before and shortly after ETCO dropped and was shocked at the prices.
Genuinely wish there were more decks like this, I quite enjoy decks that aim to go first to setup rather simple fields and use that to figure out how to interact with the opponent. "Going third" decks is how i like to think of them
There are quite a few like that, but a lot of them have trouble either out-pacing pure combo decks, out-grinding pure control decks, or both. Probably the only really big example of recent decks that play like that is Salamangreat. Orcust could also count, though they were/are a bit more combo heavy than what you're likely getting at.
Dark magician is one that I can name. There are a lot others but they're usually tier 3 or lower (except orcust back then that was meta and could do this to some extent)
This is why (and this is an unpopular opinion) I like Salads. It's a go first "midrange" that doesn't combo for 20 minutes and set up simple boards but tries to grind with the opponent. It's a balanced but powerful deck. Adaptable and overall a very well-made archetype. Even if it wqs tier 1 for a long time, I couldnt hate it.
@@antischtick3502 I too, think that salad meta (especially after it got hit but stayed meta) was the best meta we had in a while (barring the existence of mystic mine). It's strong without being too overwhelming. I even won against one using pure simorgh once :v
Thanks for the great video. Its very informative. You introduced me to a reasonably okay deck that does not require a 15 step combo to get somewhere, I will definitely be giving this a try. Also, kind of irrelevant to your usual audience, but I am blind and its super easy following what you are doing at all times because you actually say card names and you explain what you are doing. I can't tell you how frustrating it is watching other yugitubers go "then you summon this and link off into this and overly into this...". You also post decklists in the comments, also great, nowI don't have to guess how many of each card you included. Thanks for always providing quality content, I thought Flower Cardians would be the only deck I would be playing for a while :)

Urza's Mine, Urza's Tower, and Urza's Power Plant when together on the field tap for a combined total of 7 colorless mana. Getting all three into play is known as "assembling Tron," hence the name.

Hi joseph, really like the guide. I have a couple of opinions on the deck though that I'd like to share. This deck NEEDS to be running called by the grave; you lose way too hard to ash blossom otherwise, since a smart opponent will know to hold it for the ships. I also really really don't like going into bahamut shark for toad; it leaves you with a board of a single negate and no resource loop, which is just not enough unless you opened completely busted and managed to end on blackbeard too. In my opinion your top priority every game needs to be getting the lys/blackbeard loop online, and so I main nibiru as well since it gives you two more ways to access lys, both by using the token on the opp's field and just by being another light in grave for emblem when discarded.

Ive found playing the invoked engine is really really good in this archtype. Aleister is an insane normal summon that not only puts up a negate for nibiru or forces a hand trap, but also gives you access to dark, fire, and light by itself for the equip spell to help make whatever you need. It also lets you play set rotation... just be careful to not give your invoked opponent magical meltdown. Also an interesting side deck option is dragged down into the grave. Hopefully snipe a hand trap while loading your opponents grave with attributes you care about while you can set your hand up to make then pitch something you want in the gy. Cool deck!
Doesn't cherubini send level 3s? So cherubini can't send goldenhair, it would have to send fiendish rhino warrior which would then foolish the goldenhair.

Emblem reminds me of Gottoms Emergency Call in the X-Saber mirror match, oh boy it was so good snatching my opponent's Fulhelmknight and Darksoul out of their gy to go into my own Hyunlei and clear his backrow was such a nice feeling
Love the video ❤❤ I love the archetype so much, that i was buying Lys at $9-13 a week after its released... now im sitting with over 40+ copies of Lys that i dont want to move... the deck has everything you need for be meta, each card is powerful and has great impact (excet the other 2 traps) but its choke points is Ash againts the extra deck monsters, and when sometimes you dont have that Plunder patrol card to discard as cost.
Wouldnt forbidden droplet fit perfectly into this deck? It can trigger white, red and bluebeard set up golden hair and shipping shipyard + protect your plays
I've been playing orcust as a midrange deck since bardiche got killed, prove me wrong. 15 handtraps barely any normal summons worth shit (before girsu) and just playing to survive T2 because you are assured to out value your opponent if you manage such task. Now the machinas and Lib lines let you go more into the combo route but it is still not the normal summon into a million negate with 20 billion extenders and inevitability, just trade my normal for a handtrap and let's try to grind this out.
Yea I'm not exactly sure what MBT was talking about when he said midrange hasn't been in the meta for years; Orcust and Salamangreat both fit the bill incredibly well, and were tier 1 throughout all of 2019. Personally, a lot of the trickstar builds I ran up until Lightstage was put to 1 played far more like tempo/midrange decks than burn or control decks.

I would love to try out this deck, but locals are kind of iffy right now and online play doesn't have the same feeling. A good reprieve though is great videos like this and playing at friend's places.
Am I crazy or can you not use the goldenhair and the Almiraj to make Needlefiber because if you use goldenhairs 2nd effect she locks you into plunder patrolls???
I'd like to build a bujet version of plunder do you can give us some advise about how to substitute some card. I know that plunder monster are mandatory in that rateo but the crystron halq and the toadally are pretty expensive . Any alternatives?

If not, you can just play knightmares (btw, Brann synergizes with them bc it gives all of your other fiend-type monsters 500 atk, and knightmares are all fiend)
Also yeah plunder patroll seems strong, but I hate the artwork one, and more importantly, it and dream mirrors robbed time thieves of their time in the sun

Yes. If they ashed let’s say your pot of desires then u could go into brann. Invoked Alistar is dark so in that situation he went moerk. If you had also drawn booty then any summon would do since u can change to what u want.

Lys can also special summon a Plunder Patroll from the hand as well, not just from the S/T Card Zone.

You should definitely play called by in this list. Hand Traps hurt plays and the ability to shut them off at critical times is pretty key IMO

So does Combo 1 rely on your opponent playing a Dark monster?
Yes. If they ashed let’s say your pot of desires then u could go into brann. Invoked Alistar is dark so in that situation he went moerk. If you had also drawn booty then any summon would do since u can change to what u want.
Dont be afraid to hard make the plunders. Alot of people screw that part up because theyre too invested in their effects
