The Karnataka Cabinet has approved legislation that will enable quotas for locals in the private sector in different roles and capacities, triggering a huge row in a city known as the Silicon Valley of India.
The move may also be illegal and unconstitutional. Previous attempts at such quotas in other states have been stopped by the Supreme Court

Karnataka wants a Kannadiga first policy. Similar to what is seen in Europe and USA. They fear the loss of their common culture, their political power. There is also the matter cheap labour( whether white collar or blue). Karnataka isn't alone even within India. Haryana, Gujarat have also pursued such legislation. But at the end of the day the most important goal for India is economic growth, which creates hundreds of millions of well paying jobs. Reservation bills in India do not create jobs they only create Pooja Khedkars.

Kannadiga first if the company is owned and run by Kannadigas. It is rubbish to demand the same to an MNC who came to India hoping to harness the talent available in the entire country. Bangalore is such a unique place where talent of the entire nation is concentrated.

All these politicians know that as soon as this bill is passed and the bill goes to the court for hearing, the court will reject it, because it is against the Constitution and fundamental rights. And according to Article 13, if any law goes against the fundamental rights then the court can strike down that law. And it is not that the law makers do not know that this law will be repealed, but they will have an excuse to fool the public that we had tried but the people of North India and the BJP got that law repealed. Because they cannot blame the court as it would amount to contempt and no one wants to confront the court. So those who are working in Bangalore, keep working, don't be afraid. Such laws come every day and are repealed every day. Many states of India have brought such laws many times, and every time the Honorable Court has struck down such laws and reprimanded the government.

I acknowledge Kannada culture but I refuse to be forced to learn it. If I am not forced then I will go ahead and learn it out of the inquisitiveness of finding out the gems hidden inside the books and culture. No babu is going to decide whether I am going to be employed in bangalore and then with his stinky breath and fat belly ask me to shell out another bribe along with all the other bribes I have to pay for, for eg., rto, bbmp, traffic cops, to cops for filing an fir, to the government babu who ask for money for attesting. This government even surpassed my bar by taking bribes from water tankers. So for all I care, for me, my respect is for Kannadigas but just as they don't like it when they are forced into something, nor do I. A green eyed bill against the people who work in Bangalore is neither doing any service for the kannadigas or Kannada nor will it be of any use to Bangloreans. 20% of state gdp comes from IT alone and this is leaving out the ITES, ancillary bussiness, sustenance and transportation as well as real estate. Even wanting to pass this bill puts the government in a suspect position. They have not taken back the bill but merely shelved it till it rears its ugly head in the background of linguistic terrorism and activism which is already prevalent in Bangalore and rest of Karnataka. Unfortunately, the people of Karnataka, whom I respect and count myself among, must not allow this government to tear us apart for votes. Even if the government t had brought the bill and passed it, it would have been thrown out by the courts. All this government wanted to do was to have done the drama, told kannadigas that they had been stabbed by the courts and then went ahead and started architecture their new evil designs. Disgusting. They pitch us common folks at each other and we like fools (me included) jump in and say and do unthinkable things with just the excuse of what we love and are passionate about in this case the language Kannada. By the way, I am a bengali who speaks 6 languages, writes 4 of them amd does not know how to write in bengali but tried learning Kannada at a basic level at the age of 40 and failed to make much success as much as my effort to learn bengali at this age because at my age I have just lost the ability to learn anything. I still forget the way home from office and use Google maps. The twisted roads that make up bengali and Kannada are way more complicated but fortunately better understood by AI translator apps. By the way, good apps for learning kannada or for that matter bengali are simply not there. Maybe siddharamaiah can work on getting the apps out of the babu app machine factory and getting some real professionals work on an AI based Kannada learning app. Then he would not have to get non kannadigas beaten up by random people for not speaking in Kannada and stirring up these troubles for everyone.

In Karnataka, people have to be careful against congress government. another attempt to divide Hindus on the basis of linguistic boundaries by the Karnataka congress government. I love kannada but pulling language to jobs in private sector will break the states working class people along language lines, will see the demise of Bangalore and many other industrial hubs in Karnataka and will be detrimental to the people dependent on the growth story. it is unfortunate that Congress has decided to this for narrow gains and this cabinet approved bill should be struck down. it will be difficult for many parties and MLAs to vote against an emotive issue but in the long run people have to understand that this can neither be implemented and nor should be. Forcing a language and using it to create a divide amongst people is not the work of a government. Force has never produced any results. The soft power of Kannada is more than enough to ensure that the beautiful language Kannada is spoken and loved by all in India. Work against this bill and make representations and creat3 narratives so as to cause a failure of this hair brained idea and I stead we must work to popularise Kannada and produce high level content in Kannada that is understood and loved by Kannada learners. creating unrealistic laws will dishearten everyone including Kannadigas and non Kannada speakers alike. its like cheating both the kannadigas and non by creating unreal populist laws that can neither be implemented and nor should have been tried. It's failure is a win for Karnataka
