- As independent artists, we want what's best for our music. This means getting the best possible music for our songs. With so many producers basically handing out their beats, is it worth purchasing a beat? Should you purchase beats as an independent artist? In today's video I’m going to go over the reasons as to why you may or may not want to purchase a beat, and explain what beat licensing / leasing is.

WHAT IF I USE A BEAT THAT HAS BEEN RELEASED AND USED IN A SONG? CAN I BUY COPYWRIGHTS OF THE BEAT AND CREATE A NEW MELODY AND LYRICS ON IT AS IF ITS A COVER SONG BUT A COVER BEAT. Hopefully you get my point😀
Video starts at 1:25
Sir you spent minutes talking about how you know how to make beats instead of discussing the topic 😂😂
I'm so confused while buying a music (standard License) from beatstars to use in my youtube videos.
Actually i am going to use that music as a background sound in all my future videos.
But confused by license agreement terms for youtube.
Please help me out...
Best plan take control as an artist and conduct yourself how a major one would, Buy the beat exclusive negotiate a contract to own the master but still allow the producer to eat like any good deal would. The main goal is to make sure everyone gets a good slice of the pie and can still eat later in if song does blow up
Happy I stumbled upon your channel.. Great advice thank u 🤗
Thanks this was hella dope
Thanks man

You are god sent and explained all of this so well. I now understand much better. Thank you!
Hey.... Kathy girl How have you been since.
It's a tough and saturated industry, but good things happen if we stay consistent and dedicated. We don't know each other at all but I could help elevate and contribute your career.
I have some pre made beats available for you, but they are temporary leases (may not be your specific cup of tea, but it's still good enough music). I thought it's more invested if you tell me what kind of beats you really like for yourself. All of you say I want to be different. I want you to be in control of the general sound of preference in your music. Spend money on a sound of your choice.
I could make you something exclusive (2-3 days after your order/request) and give you all the legal rights and what not, for $250 on beatstars. It will be yours for good, whatever returns you will get further on, I won't ask. I'm not giving bout stems though, to be honest (they are way too valuable because I can go on to make melody samples and sell). Unless you initiate a new negotiation. But that is too soon to say.
My leases are at $45. That's not expensive (we can all afford), and it's not too cheap or free (those really undermine your results and you never truly feel invested in your projects. Cheap beats are good, financially, but you at risk of mediocre music. If your career is still struggling to take off, consider where where you are getting your beats.
I would like you to try my link below. I KNOW YOU FEEL BOTHERED, but you never know how your most successful song will happen.
3-4 full plays is good enough for you to decide whether I'm a good source of what you need, or not.

Aye I subscribed bro fr helped me out finna check out your beat store💯💯
good shit bro I got some beats too you'd prolly like lmk
Thank you for sharing your experience. Video suggestion, one on how to copyright my beats once I get good at using FL Studios 😊
if you create something you automatically own the copyright to that creation, for beats the only exceptions would be if you are using plugins/ soundkits from other people and they require credit, split revenue etc.
One more subscriber good luck and thank you it helps .❤
thank you
great insight , what happens if you buy a beat that an industryb artist uses or used
Heard you bro😂 subscribed
Broooo please make more videos about how you do your work all of it
so what happen if the song you released off of a type beat ends up getting more streams than your limit?
does making a TikTok about the song when your promoting count as a music video.
most beats licences give you the number of music videos your allowed to post.
does that count as TikTok videos aswell?

How do you make your own music video? please explain or do a video?
Hello there it’s my first time, wanting to buy a beat and you were explaining the type of beats to where you can mix and master
1. Is there a difference between the lease and what is the difference between a MP3 and the others
2. Can I just to take off parts of the beat not mix or master like there is a drum to a song I want to take the drum off. Can I do that?
Hi Adriel I have one question what if you buy a lease after you uploaded on Spotify? my wallet is gonna be empty because my income from music is almost zero but im doing music almost everyday
ill get you some free beats dawg
For someone that wants to rap and don’t know how to get started are beats the same as the instrumental? Or you need a beat before you make the instrumental
The beat is ... just the beat, a product for lease.
The SONG is the beat plus vocals, provided that a lease was bought.
The instrumental is the SONG without the vocals.
Basically, the beat's an instrumental, but producers likely aren't gonna let you upload THEIR beat onto streaming platforms for YOU to make profit off of.
I've been fucked over by every side on the web over 100,000 times including distrokid
Is it possible to monetize a music video on CZcams with a leased beat? How would that work? Being that most times the beat is already being monetized on the producers channel
it's all in the license agreement, depends on the lease type
It needs to be exclusive in order to use content ID
I have a question on CZcams monetization for making a song with a leased beat
If i lease a beat and it says up to 500000 NON MONETIZED views on youtube what does that mean , i cant make no money at all of youtube
@@frankm3 yes and no. Up to 500k views isn’t monetized. After that (which is up to the producer) should be in their terms or you would have to reach out to negotiate.
Sup bro, I leased a beat a while back but It says that the term is for 1 year. I'm unsure if i have to buy the beat again even though i have not distributed the song and streamed it
if you put it on soundcloud, itunes spotify, etc yes you will have to either purchase a more exclusive lease or delete the song from all those services. if the producer finds out you're still profiting off of the beat or have it on any streaming services (which is very easy for them to find out) then you'll be stripped of all earnings you made from that song on all platforms and will be unable to use that song or release it ever again.
Hey, so I found this sick (FREE) beat on CZcams and I’m trying to figure out if I should lease it or not. I’ve made a song with it and I want to Post it on twitter but I want to do so for views and recognition and Not for profit or anything. Should I buy a lease ?
Some beats are Free for profit, most of them are free just for youtube demos and snippets. Check the description of the beat you want, you can contact the producer if you have any doubt. But consider buying it, basic leases are pretty cheap
I really hope he sees this, but what if a beat maker says "I don't sell licenses anymore, you can use ALL my beats 100% free on all platforms, enjoy. This is my gift to the world". Does that mean you can literally use the beats for free? Or is that some kind of trick?
What if your song ends up having more streams then what you paid for?
I think you have to upgrade your lease at that point or buy an exclusive to avoid a lawsuit or getting your music flagged and taken down by the producer
I was thinking the same thing
No one’s talking about this it’s crazy
Then thank God
I put a song on distro and it never uploaded, and didnt upload on time, what do i do about that?
Goodmorning Sir. My question is if i buy a example mp3 license and i upload it to my youtube channel its legal? Thank you godbless
So if it’s a free beat what’s like the restrictions on that because if the beat is free to download how does that work is it different from ones that aren’t free download ?
You don't get the ownership of it
READ YOUR CONTRACT BEFORE AGREEING most producers take 50% writers share of new song and 100% publishing of new song and wont even allow you to register with bmi or ascap so there are your performance royalties also you cant copyright it so there goes your insurance if someone was to steal it from you beware of the contracts some of them even say you dont own 100% of that master recording if you use that beat
What does register with bmi or ascap mean?
@@scan8501 it’s how you can collect your performance royalties from venues, shows or it being played somewhere, they just purchase a blanket license from pro and then the pro distributes the money back to you ( the publisher and or writer)
Is it more worth it to buy the exclusive lease vs basic or unlimited? I want to put my music on distrokid to get on Spotify ect. But my lease says no distribution of new song how do I even release it? 😭
Hey so I found a couple of beats I really want to buy exclusively , but don’t know if it’s the right move. I’m the contract it says the produce owns 50% of publishing rights and I own the other 50% does that mean he gets 50% of what I make/get? And also when it says Artist will pay mechanical royalties at one hundred percent (100%) of the minimum statutory rate, subject to no cap of that rate for albums and/or EPs. What exactly does that refer to?
@@damientrujillo4470 the statutory rate is what you’re being paid per minute (look this term up for a more detailed explanation). 50% of publishing which is important but if you do not know this beat maker or have worked with them before 50 is a lot so what you do is get you a contract made by your own lawyer and use that in all the beat purchases going fourth that way you aren’t getting contracts from beat makers, if you can’t get in contact with them than don’t do business. Remember you are a walking business and you must move as such, if they can’t speak to you about giving them money , spend it else where. Great job for buying exclusively this means a different contract will be required either on your behalf or the beat maker (make it you!!)

Try me
i can make some exclusive beats for you if you need
How do you get a license for music to use beats ?
Am I allowed to publish beats to Spotify through DistroKid? So many leases don't allow me to do that.
Ok not saying that you're wrong, but your solution to not pay 20$, is to buy FL/Abelton (200$ at least) and spend 2 years learning production and money to get vsts and stuff. That doesn't sound like it's worth it
no, it's actually worth it, it saves you money in the long term, be your own producer and a rapper and there you will find your own sound, plus you dont have to worry about copyright, royalties, and splits
I think it’s so stupid that people put a limit on steams. Like how tf am I supposed to control that Lmao it ain’t my fault my shit bumps
😂
What does without lease mean does that mean it's free for use

When buying exclusive beats do they typically ask for 50/50 % wise with the publishing rights?? Like with any main producer too I’m guessing ??
What type beats do you want
how do you do so many things while having to work so much? :( i pay :c
So how do you feel about buying a beat exclusively?
How much percentage should the person who made the beat get.... I'm a artist the song is wrote ... I friend of mind made a beat based off me telling him how the song goes but he wants a 50/50 split. I know that's not realistic... what should I do ?
Yes, if you want to business the RIGHT way you should be splitting royalties 50/50. You're giving credit to you, the Author, and the producer, the composer. Still don't understand? Ask yourself did YOU make the beat yourself? OK exactly, that's your answer. Use the split sheets & give half for the vocals itself, & creator of the beat itself.
@sugarpuffs I appreciate it... I'm a filmmaker and I have the those contracts and royalties on lock. But the music industry is a different Monster...
@@noyb4441 Okay cool I just know from word of mouth how grimey this biz is . And I wrote the lyrics but the beat he made is 🔥 .... I'll keep all my publishing.... I guess I could just purchase the beat 💯 %
For unlimited licenses, do the producers get any royalties or is the 250 I'm paying basically an upfront cost that gives me 100% monetization? Very new to this process and a bit confused lol
Hey bro, most producers don’t collect royalties when it comes to unlimited leases. Basically unlimited means is you can get as many streams as possible, the only difference compared to an exclusive lease is that with an unlimited lease you still don’t own full rights so it can get sold to other artists as well

whats a good free sample source?

how can i learn to make my own beats? i know nothing.

bro i wanted to like this but you did so much promo and talking about random stuff i just couldn’t stick through
love your accent where r u from?
My beats dope af but ppl just rather get them for free man it’s tough out here lol
If I buy an unlimited use beat ..do keep all the money I make from that song ?
yes, but you have to split profit with the producer, or co-producer if there are any, unless you're buying an exclusive lease where there you get the full rights and keep 100% profit
unlimited lease simply means unlimited distribution of copies
Yeah i have found this one beats that really makes me goes with the lyric...i have made the full lyric then ...i didnt noticed that it was non profit beats ...if i remake it im affraid it will be worse hmmm ..i hope the beats doesnt sold cause i got not enough money for now😢
As long as it doesn't sell exclusively you'll be all good until you can afford the license! No worries :)
@@ShowYourGenius thankss man🥺🙏
Dude gave no knowledge about beat leasing. Just kept saying “I make beats, I’m my own producer, buy from me if You need, I’m not bias” 😴
Beat Lease = using the beat for a specific amount of streams or views (example 1m steams or 100m streams or 30k streams, whatever is in the agreement), than you must re lease it once you hit those streams, also other people can lease that beat
Buy Exclusive = unlimited streams and no one else can use that beat without permission for monetization
Leases are cheaper and better for newer artists or artists that know ow many streams they usually get
Exclusives are a lot more expensive better for established artists
Either way publishing should be split 50/50 artist and producer, and the master rights the artist will usually own more than the producer depending on who is doing the promotion and marketing the song. Usually if the producer just made the beat and did nothing else promo wise or marketing, they will get less % on the master
If you don't pass 1million streams, loses are probably the way to go, if you do a million plus, exclusives might be better
@@marlinbeats4599bro but if you want to be getting money from your work you shouldnt work with a ceiling that fcks up the potential of the song. What you think?
If I buy a beat can I upload it to distro
yes bro for sure . check out some of my beats bro I spend a lot of time making them
@@typatheo what happens if you don't buy the beat post it on platforms and pay the producer later all the money?
You only have 6 beats ?
I got a bunch I'm uploading now
So what if i used the beat … and then buy it ? What happens ?
equivalent to buying a beat before using it.
Just hope no one else bought it before you did
If you're leasing a beat can someone buy it from under you?
No
Yes someone can. As most producers want the beat to be sold over and over until someone buys it exclusively. That’s one reason why leases are cheaper than exclusives.
Tool OnDaBoards I’m not sure if he meant can someone buy it from you, or if someone else can also buy the beat which in that case they can
Ima take this info and roll with it look for me next handful of years Kiing Brandon or Arc Angel Brandon fixin to Heal the world buy a house for my mom and granny
If I buy a beat from your website, do I own it 100%?
Also, if I buy the beat can other ppl use it as well or its just mine then ?
@@lucidmind604 The artist will never own it 100% unless they pay a huge fee or they make the beat. Also once you buy it EXCLUSIVELY than no one else can use it, but if you lease it than most likely other people can use it
But who owns the Beat
Let's 2 people buy the dame beat
Can you upload songs with leased beats to distrokid, tidal etc?
