What Happens If You Lease A Beat Then The Beat Is Sold As Exclusive?
In this video I explain what happens when an Artist makes a song with a lease beat, then the beat is sold exclusively to another artist
This is a good question I was asked by 1 of my subscribers and to cut a long story short, the lease owner should be allowed to fulfil their agreement set by the producer of the beat. The Artist who owns the exclusive does have a right to contact the lease owner if they wish to and come up with an agreement between them - if necessary
This is rare, but if you find yourself in this sticky situation go back to your contract and make sure you know where you stand

What is the producer GAVE u the beat as a gift but it was so exclusively later.
FreXinet Johnson unless youâve got some kind of written engagement, I donât think youâll have much say over the beat unfortunately.
What if you lease a beat and the songs blows up?

Hi, if in the agreement the artist places a 100,000 limit on the beat. And the number of streams goes over what penalties could happen? Would you have to buy a higher teir agreement?
Hi. Yea, if thatâs what the agreement says. Most cases theyâd have to renew the Lease. If they hitting them type of numbers Iâd look in to selling them the Exclusive Rights.
Thanks for watching
What if I sell a beat and the time of the lease expires. Whatâs the best suggestion for keeping track of the lease time expirations with artists etc
Unless youâre gonna keep a track on it manually, thereâs no real way of keeping track that I know of. Although, you could keep an a eye on the date it was purchased and when the date is up for renewal. This might be long if youâve got a lot of Artists using your beats.
If your Leases are based on Units/Streams then Iâm not sure how youâd keep track of that.
Hope that helps and thanks for watching
what happens if two people with the same beat enter the songs into content id on youtube? But one artist already has it recognized but doesnât have exclusive rights.
Not sure bro. Thatâs a good question. Iâll have to do some research on that and make a video about it
Iâm curious đ
As a Producer, am I allowed to keep a beat public for people to keep listening and streaming once it has been sold or do I have to delete it from CZcams, Soundcloud and Spotify? I have deleted the purchase link and the beat is no longer available to purchase but what happens if someone just downloads the MP3 straight from CZcams? I know this is a problem with internet prods and wanna know if I'll get any flack from the artist that purchased the beat if I keep it up on my pages, just not for sale obviously.
Iâve kept sold Beats up on my website and CZcams, but have told the Artist who bought the Exclusive. IMO, I feel itâs good for a Producer to show âSoldâ Beats on their platforms, as itâll attract more sales. If you get flack, just take it down. But, be sure to keep the Artist in the loop, regardless.
Cheers for watching
@@kcsounds No worries, yeah this is what I was leaning towards doing just wanted to check, Thanks.
@@brvdy Anytime bro
What if itâs âcustom producedâ ? So like if an artist doesnât want to buy the exclusive rights but he or she wanted a custom produced beat ? I can still sell it to who ever ?
When I produce Custom Beats, itâs Exclusive to the Artist. If youâve made a Custom Beat and the Artist doesnât want the Exclusive, then I donât see why you canât continue to make money off that Beat. All depends on what youâve put in your agreement, really. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching
Quick question
How many unlimited leases can a producer sell to others on one beat at a time ?
As many as you want bro, itâs your Business. Unless youâve sold the Exclusive you can continue selling the same Beat to other Artists
Id if youll answer but i have an important question. So i sold a lease to a guy so he uploaded it to spotify, know i have another artist who wants to buy the exclusive for the same beat and upload it to spotify as well. Now im wondering if there could be trouble with 2 songs with the same beat being on spotify at the same time?
You should be fine. Just let the Artist whoâs buying the Exclusive know the Beat has already been used. Then take it off your website or wherever you was selling it. Hope that helps.
@@kcsounds Sounds good thank u for answering đđœ
How about if you have an unlimited track out and someone buys the exclusive beat but you had your song dropped wayyyy before the person who bought it ?
Then you should be good. Check your agreement, or hit up the Producer to be sure. Cheers for watching
What if I made the beat and make a song with it too without buying my own beat license? If then someone buys that beat I made exclusively, do I have to take my song down?
Depends what youâve wrote in your agreement
So after my lease expires and someone already bought the beat i will lose all my rights of making profit of my song?
Nothing should change, just means youâll have to renew your Lease. If the Beats been sold Exclusive, you wonât be able to renew your Lease, but your existing rights should still stand. The producer of the beat will be able to let you know more detail, or double check your Lease agreement
So would the man tha bought the lease have to take the vid down after the limit of the agreement is reached because another dude bought the exclusive
Only if thatâs what it says in the Lease agreement. Otherwise, they shouldnât have to take it down
I bought an instrumental from someone on youtube he told me that he can sell it exclusive the beat is 10 years old and I have the mp 3 version he said that he lost his wav version do you think is safe for me to use that beat in my hip hop song without contract i have the proof that i have paid that guy 60 dollars the money that he asked for please help me
Just come to me bro full exclusive rights for the low and it comes with wav mp3 and all the track outs
Excelent video! one question, can I authorize someone to use for non-profit use a beat that I've already leased exclusively? Like, can someone use an already leased exclusive beat for non-profit use? Can this happen?
Thank you. Question confused me a bit lol. If youâve sold a Beat Exclusively then it shouldnât be available to Lease. Hope that helps
@@kcsounds Yeah... I mean, non-profit counts as a lease?
Yea, it can do

So if I purchase the lease and then someone buys the exclusive, do I get my money back?
Unless the producer says that in their agreement, I doubt youâll get your money back, cos youâve paid to Lease the beat. Iâve never heard of an artist getting their money back after a Lease has been purchased.
What means this 25% of the writers or producer so that mean earning money from Spotify or?
Itâll mean whatever it says within the agreement
What if the type beat is sold exclusively but I use it for non profit only
If itâs been sold Exclusive, it shouldnât still be available for Lease
I got a question what if a beat is sold exclusively. But you didnât get around to purchasing a lease? How would that pan out? And am I still able to release?
Then the Beat is unavailable to purchase a Lease. Doubt you can still release your Song, cos you donât have an agreement which says you can use the Beat. If youâre looking to make money from it, thatâll lean into copyright infringement. Best thing to do is hit up the Producer, and ask him if you can still use it - but, as far as I know, you canât. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching
@@kcsounds could I find a producer that could flip the beat around to avoid any copyright infringement I have a couple of songs I think I could profit off of and donât want to use a different beat because I like the vibe on the song

Say if you brought a beat and it went viral do you have to pay the producer royalties and if so how much ?
All depends on whatâs in the agreement. If you Leased the beat and it went viral, it would be a good idea to purchase the Exclusive and agree royalty splits with the producer.
Cheers for watching
@@kcsounds thanks for letting me know!
@miawhispers Glad I could help
A producer wrote [SOLD] in the title of beat, can I use that for non profit?
I doubt it. You could ask the Producer, as he might say something different.

what about if i buy a mp3 lease that has a limit of 500,000 streams and it exceeds it only after someone else already buys the beat exclusively. How would i go back to the producer to buy an unlimited lease if the beat is not up anymore, would I have to take my song down?
You wouldnât be able to renew your Lease after itâs been sold Exclusive. If youâre doing them typing of numbers, you should consider purchasing the Exclusive for yourself.
Hope that helps, and thanks for watching
@@kcsounds yes thanks but just to confirm I WOULD have to take my song down right?
or could i keep it up and give all the profits to the exclusive owner of the beat?
@@ayojibeats Depends on what the agreement says. Donât think youâll have to take it down tho
@@ayojibeats Thatâs something youâd have to discuss with the Producer
what if someone has bought exclusive rights to the beat I wanted to from the producer. What do i do then? Do i contact the person who has the exclusive rights or talk to the producer?
Not sure youâll be able to do much about that. You can contact them both if you want? Also, why not ask the producer to remake the the Beat in a similar style? Or, ask another producer to do it
@@kcsounds thank you
Say the beat is free right and you use it and post it then they sell the beat what happens with your song ?
Hhill Hill thatâs a good question. If itâs my beat, then youâd be ok to leave it. It all depends on the individual producer and their terms. Most times, if a Free beats been bought the artist will have been told
What is the best way to buy a beat....
Should I buy directly exclusive beat or lease beat... Confused!
If you donât have much of a fanbase, go for Lease. If the track does well, then look to buy the Exclusive. That doesnât mean you shouldnât buy the Exclusive, if you have the budget, and want the Beat to be yours Exclusively. Hope that helps

How much do you charge to remake a beat?
Depends on the Beat, and artists budget. Around ÂŁ180 - ÂŁ450
Hey bro quick question what if the beat sold exclusive first and the producer trying to sell it again like lease or even exclusive is that even allowed? Hopefuly make sense
Hey bro. Personally, I wouldnât continue to sell a Beat thatâs been sold Exclusive - itâs bad business and could get messy. Your Brand should mean more than a couple sales from 1 Beat. Just my opinion.

Hey dude! Nice video!!
I too have some questions for you, curious what your take is! :D
As a vocal-artist AND a music-producer, I'm planning to make my catalogue of beats available to the public.
I'm aware that if I sell an exclusive license to another artist, I am no longer able to sell new licenses to customers.
I do wonder:
- Can I release a song with my vocals recorded on one of my beats, after I sold said beat under an exclusive license agreement (without some sort of buyout on my rights to that beat)?
- If I register a copyright to a beat, and release a version of said beat with my vocals and modifications to that beat/composition, can I reregister the song under a new copyright (as I own the right of the underlying composition and the copyright to the lyrics)?
- If the terms of a limited license is exceeded (in terms of the length of the contract and/or amount of stream/sales etc) and the licensee wants to renew the lease, but the lease is no longer available because the beat was sold as an exclusive to someone else,
does licensee have to remove the content from all platforms?
Thanks in advance! :D
How would the producer know that I leased the beat
Theyâll get a notification from where the Beat was sold, + transaction details from their Bank, PayPal or whatever platform collects their payments.
Where do I get these contracts to give to artist
You can set them up to be sent out automatic with Beat sales on Airbit. Iâm not sure how it works with Beatstars, but Iâm sure itâd be a similar thing
KC Sounds and what if you lease a beat to someone but they havenât dropped it yet , and then you sell the same beat. Is the person who leased it still able to drop ?
Check what youâve put in your agreement, because it depends if youâve put time limits or streams/sales limits. Most times theyâre within their rights to still release it.
Hope that helps
What if someone uses the exclusive beat you buy but they put it out for free?
Thatâs a good question. I think it depends on the Artist who owns the Exclusive and whether or not theyâre happy for someone to use it for Free. If an Artist is using it for Free, I donât see much of a problem

what happens if the Lease is expired after certain amount of time ? Do we have to remove the song from youtube as well even if its not monetizing.?
If it has expired, then youâd have to renew the Lease. Whether or not you have to take it down, depends on what the producers agreement says. This is why I donât use time based Leases, instead I use streaming limits. Hope that helps
@@kcsounds How does streaming limits work, say if my agreement on beatstars is 50k streams for basic and premium license, and the singer hits that limit, what should he do in that case, buy exclusive or ?

How have they managed to sell an Exclusive twice? Personally I wouldnât do business like that - but everyoneâs different.
