Wow, lovely photography at the start and special effects at the end! I'm a club archer who also dabbles in bow making. Really useful info in your videos (not too mention the insight into feelings about one's career path!). Everything I've ever bought from you has been superb and I'll continue to buy from you. I would love to do a Longbow making course!

My wife and I love your videos they are fun and informative, I was wondering if you could explain the difference between more warbow style bows that bend through the handle and the pros and cons of it and why you might choose to have it bend through the handle it not.

My friend and I have our first Outdoor Covid Gig next weekend, not feeling as confident as when we accepted. I was interested in Richard's comment about the bow not making flight distances. What kind of distances do you expect for 50, 60, 75 and 90 lbs with reasonably weighted arrows with a good long bow? (most archers where I live shoot compound bows, so I don't get to see a lot of different longbows.) I'm getting older and some of the heavy bows I've made are just too heavy to be fun anymore. I just give them to someone younger who can use them, and learn to shoot

Good luck with the gig, mine went fine, yes, it did feel a bit odd, but soon got into it. It's more that the bow wasn't tillered correctly rather than an issue with weight, a 50lb bow is fine if it's made well, you will be aiming higher than most! People shoot 100yards target with 50lbs with point of aim on the target.

Thank You for another great video. Do your comments regarding this topic also apply to fiberglass backed flat bows?
Someone gave me a brand new, 60# @ 28 longbow (one of the large manufactures) but my boomer shoulder is telling me that 36# would be better. These bows are only $100 of so new, so, a kids bow, with a man's draw weight... pretty useless.
The back and belly appear to be a single ply (1/16") of glass in resin, over mahogany laminates. There is no depth to speak of, (flat bow) so it will be a matter of narrowing and tapering the width of the limbs.
The real question is how dangerous could this finished product be?
I have a tiller stick (only used so far to check draw weights, and "look" at the tiller) which should be safe enough, and I have worked with fiberglass over wood in an industrial setting in the past so I understand the material safety issues.

Glad you like the video, thanks for your help, we really appreciate it! Sadly I am not the person to ask about the type of bow you mention, that is well out of the scope of my expertise, sorry!

@@longbows Thanks anyway. It was worth a shot... who knows what you may have mucked about in before you decided to stick with medieval and Victorian bows.

Don’t reduce the poundage reduce the weight of the limbs.
Make a new weak bow 👍👍
