  • The catalyst for the conversation with Erik is the new Cannibal Corpse album for 2021, Violence Unimagined, which is Erik's first as a full-time member after producing the past five albums. Erik handles the production for the album in addition to the guitars. We cover Violence Unimagined, his time with Morbid Angel, his thoughts on Alas, writing a biography and many more topics related to his superb career.

Erik has always been a class act. Was honored to have my band open for Hate Eternal when they rolled through Jacksonville FL during the I, Monarch tour. He was also more than happy to sign my Domination (green vinyl) LP.
    Much respect and support.

Erik is the definition of talented human and to me is Godlike when it comes to music! Would love to meet him and the guy's from Cannibal before I die, I tried in the past but the staff and security were no help! I'm 49 now and hope I get a chance

I actually met him in Minneapolis, with Morbid Angel discussing music outside confines of band playing, he mentioned jazz away from the scene, at home; Etta James. I have a hard time recollecting which gig

Great interview. My only criticism is not seizing the opportunity to ask about the negative reaction on Illud Divinum Insanus, or even just getting his take on that whole period of Morbid’s development. Missed opportunity even if it would have been a difficult question to pose. Otherwise this was a thoroughly enjoyable interview…

I don't really know why, but it seems like Erik has just gotten heavier more recently. Which is usually the opposite of what happens when you've been playing for as long as he has.

the Covenant tour in 2017 being the last time.

@@ScarsandGuitarspodcast yep it was in the Myer centre at Metropolis I think it was called ,and the old lady and me were on acid and absolutely blown away. We couldn’t believe the power that David Vincent seemed to command. I was a big fan of the album so that helped the show too. Now almost thirty years later it’s still my most intense concert experience. I’ve seen Slayer 4 times and Pantera on the second tour the old lady saw em on the first as well and nothing can beat it ! The Roxy gig (arena) was great as well but Brunelle and Trey David and Pete had some special magic I’ve very rarely experienced before or since and I’m 50 next week .
      Great interview too cheers

My introduction was Nov 2018 opening for CC in RI. I had no idea who he was but was blown away by an amazing set. During CC I approached him to compliment him and he was a real nice guy. Disgustingly modest! I love Upon Desolate Sands. It's the best album I've heard in years... amazing feeling, riffs and wailing throughout God bless Eric Rutan.
