"Azorius is the literal fun police"
- Me, a House Dimir agent and Rakdos Cultist
Wait are you me in the mirror?
Azorius is my least favorite, I play more Dimir, Simic or Golgari I despise board wipes. why can't I hit you where it hurts in destroying your lands? back to basics should be fair against those.
@@macmacox Land destruction is funny
@@volosguidetomonsters3440 I mean nonbasics, blood moon is mean but if you only have 5 basics in your deck that deserves some punishment.
@@macmacox Oh... but I like Red-Green Ponza decks
(Holds my 4 Dimir decks close) “You don’t listen to what those mean nitpicking nerds have to say”
Same!
It’s bananas that Scarab God and Wilhelt didn’t get a mention in Dimir. Golgari is number 1 and Dimir is 10? Weird.
zombies are boring thats why
My most fun deck I've built is a Scarab God life burn deck @DrummurDer1992
@@DrummurDer1992 oh thanks I didn’t realize that
My Scarab God deck is my most cherished deck and couldn’t imagine not having it.
The lack of Simic love is fine. We will grow on you, whether you want it or not. Evolution cannot be stopped.
Every simic deck is just draw cards and ramp, that’s the issue. That’s literally the only thing simic commanders do 🥱
@@artgosling2696 my +10/+10 Hakbal keeps getting stolen by the Orhzov Vampire precon.
@@artgosling2696what about cascade and copy creatures? Swarming the field and boosting power of creatures. Plus turning lands into creatures is fun too
I dunno... not enough crab for my liking
@@artgosling2696 My Ivy Deck - with her 16 copies - begs to differ.
The Syndicate is displeased with its current classification. It demands a correction, or you can expect an increase in the mana tithe.
"its"
I feel like Boros has become a top 3 “fun” in recent years. They’ve focused so much on fixing Boros and really done well at giving it a decent range of options.
I’d love to see Azorius and dimir get some similar focus. Both of them often feel so heavily focused on their respective core mechanics (“fun police/flying” and “mill/ninjas” respectively) that it’s hard to find an interesting way to build them.
Dimir needs to expand into Prowess/spellslinger territory - Rona is a good start but we can do better.
Izzett is the most solitaire type deck storming off like crazy for 20 minutes
I guess its fun for people that like solitare.
@@Shimatzu95that’s me. I’m people.
Enchantress is a solitaire style as well.
@@AlwaysGrowing0 only if it has green in it aka all the enchantress cards ever
Me with my Niv Mizzet Parun
Rakdos is the only guild that knows how to have fun.
I agree
We Boros have fun too, but we follow the rules!
I'd like to vote that gruul also has fun
Yeah, it's all fun and games until you become the human sacrifice.
Hell ya Brother!!!
I’d love to see your opinions on the wedges and shards, too!
yes def wedge and shards!
I third this idea
THATS ME!!! I'm the poison Chun LI player!!! Omg so honored for the shout out!
Got a list?
@@Blacklodge_Willy its called Chun-Li compleated
Mad respect, first commander I built a deck for
Thing i like about the game is the roleplaying aspect. Dimir lets me explore the evil scientist/cultist with commanders like Phenax and Tezzeret. Milling people into insanity, surounding yourself with artificial servants, scheeming to cast huge spells and foil plans at instant speed.
Dimir always brings me the vibe of taking your things and using it against you. Cards like covetous urge, kotose, scarab god etc.
Yeah, I thought it was weird that Beezy said that's a rakdos thing out of the grixis colors. I feel like that's more dimir's identity.
That's exactly what my anowon Mill/grave thief does.
Where’s my Golgari bros? 💪
Right here! I play Beledros!
@@MedievalWerewolf Meren and Lathril myself
Savra, Queen of the Golgari is #1 for me
@@MedievalWerewolf fellow Beledros enjoyer spotted 🤝
Chatterfang is my faves
Can't be throwing hate at Dimir, Transmute has been saving wallets and hearts with those cheap tutors!
Here is the thing, I do believe Selesnya is the least fun color combination, but i can't stop playing it. Selesnya is very permanent-dependent, usually plays at sorcery speed, and is extremely held back by it's lack of card draw, but there's just something about a board full of tokens that just tickles my brain.
Ok fine, it's also pretty good at enchantress I guess...
I love izzet, simic and gruul.
Black and white don’t really do much for me, except for sultai and naya
I took 1d4 psychic damage listing dimir as most fun for me and seeing you put it at the bottom
I loved this video! It’s such a fresh, refreshing video. Loved that there were “more fun” and “least fun” categories. I’d kill for a 3 color video similar to this.
Gruul.
Smash first, consequenses later, questions never.
Dimir’s mechanical identity is generally a bunch of shit black could already do either with no twist or a slightly blue caveat to the effect. It’s generally blacks hand disruption, blues deck manipulation, and sometimes graveyard interaction usually involving exiling shit from your yard to allow the card doing it to do something in relation to the card exiled. I know that last one sounds pretty run of the mill but it was relatively novel when dimir was conceived.
Golgari and Orzhov are my favorite guilds due to being able to sacrifice my creature to get a lot of value.
Your mom is the most fun guild.
You obviously don't know my mother.... Just sayin
Dimir is about cool combat tricks, and creatures that are hard to block that give you cool triggers
Rakdos does so much stuff. It's my all time favorite color combo. Rakdos is where the fun is
I definitely thought this was gonna be about in-lore which guild would’ve been the most fun to live in
It's what it should have been, honestly all they did is parrot what each color is designed to do by WOTC. These colors do these things, it's like that by design. If you want to start getting into unique designs you need to start getting into 3, 4, and 5 color decks as that is where you have the most flexibility in deck design. And let's remember that the guilds and color abilities were designed for 60 card decks. I am sure if they were redesigned with Commander in mind the game would be alot different. I was playing when original Ravnica block was released and having multiple of a card in the deck makes the guilds feel more in line with their theme. Also if you notice over 75% of the Commanders they talked about are ones since Hasbro has been a sinking ship and have forced WOTC to speed up production and power-creeped the heck out of Magic. I don't recall them talking about any legendary creature from before 2018. Sorry, maybe I'm just old and remember having to scrounge and build an Elder Dragon deck that worked and was fun to play, and on that note, I will stop my rant before I get full on "you young whippersnappers". I love the game, buy some Mirroden block and draft/deck-build that, totally different experience than drafting/deck-building Modern(Commander) Horizons
Orzhov is so cool and has so much on its own, but people like themes, and all of the themes in Orzhov require a little blue or red or green - incredible strong base, hard to separate from the more exciting derivative guilds...
I really like dimir, selesnya, and azorius. For some reason theres just a lot of interesting commanders there. Helps that I really like zombies, rogues, and mill themes.
Selesnya is my personal favourite. There are so many types of strategies and archetypes available.
It is interesting that you stated in the video a few times that red as a color is not great… or I believe you even said weak… and I have always sorta thought the same thing, but of your top 4 guilds , 3 of them have red! I also was recently taking inventory of my decks as I’m up
To 15, and when I think of the colors I’m not a huge fan of red, but I do have a lot of decks that have red in them! So I guess it’s a great support color?
If you think selesnya is boring try Trelasarra, moon dancer! You play soul sisters (plus essence warden!) and turn small instances of life gain into Voltron. Also play hardened scales effects etc.. It’s literally my fav commander.
Dimir has one of the best identities imo and has a ton of interesting strategies. I dont even own a dimir deck but my friend has several, and every one is unique.
As a dimir/grixis mage..Dimir does grixis stuff...control..card advantage combo..punish..graveyard stuff...it's GREAT ....iv top 16 major tournaments with Talion the kindly lord....and I know yall weren't talking CEDH..but that should be considered
Love my Talion deck. It's titled, I want my friends to hate me. And they do when I play it.
A defense of Dimir
But I like Rilsa Rael
Also, Dimir's original identity was "It's the deck manipulation guild"
Look at Lurking Informant (The Dimir signpost uncommon in City of Guilds)
Besides, have you seen the crimes deck?
Way better than Simic, at least.
My other color pair is Rakdos, I play Valki, Cosmic Imposter // Totally not Tibalt and Blim
The Rakdos puts the "Fun" in "Funeral"
Lazav, Dimir Mastermind is probably my all time favorite deck. It uses incidental mill to fuel reanimation and clone effects so that my deck can become an amalgamation of every deck at the table and often wears the faces of the scariest things around.
Before it starts I know it’s rakdos but I’d argue the subset of azorius that is oops all artifacts is also a fun experience for all. Not countering, not controlling. Just doing a lot and playing with toys until suddenly you’re the threat with 300+ power on the field
I agree with the ranking for the most part. I'd have to say though Rona, Herald of Invasion is Dimir's saving grace. It's so much fun to just loot a bunch and play a bunch of pingers to hit your own commander and cast big spells and creatures from your hand.
My favorite deck is my mirko deck. Instead of surveil, I focus on having powerful 0 cost clones from my graveyard, reanimating powerful black and blue creatures and spamming clones of them. With mill, counter spells, recursion, and leveraging other peoples graveyards against them. Cloning an astral dragon or archfiend of despair for free feels really good.
Finally some golgari love. Best guild 10/10 started for me with the gitrog frog and have always had a soft spot for jarad
I'm giving you a thumbs up for not making Boros dead last like most people would.
I love Golgari. As mono colors green and black are my favorite colors. They just work so well together and there are so many strategies you can use
The Boros Legion understands your current positioning, but expects you to do better in the future.
My pick for most fun Boros commander would be Hofri. A boros aristocrat deck is super interesting, plus you can build it as a steal your opponents creatures deck or even a spirit deck. Plus also chaining an imperial recruiter into a reckless fireweaver and two dockside’s is neat :)
How the hell is azorioz, aka the fun police above selesnya?
I've never thought about my opinions on the guilds, but I tend towards 3 color commanders and Sultai is the one where I can't find a single commander that sounds interesting to me. And Dimir + Simic being the bottom two picks here certainly validates that for me
Aesi was my first commander and still is in one of my active decks. Beezy has a very fair assessment of him, from someone who went so hard into Aesi that I have a Red Gyrados metal proxy of him. But I also am a victim of the advice they give which is bully the simic player early. My wife hates Scute Swarm with a burning passion that even if I played it on turn 2, and no lands in hand, she would kill it. My other buddies in the pod actually know my combo pieces and actively work to prevent me from getting them.
Dimir is most fun to me cause like, i got three hands. My library, my graveyard and my hand
Dimir is one of my favorite. Playing against it is fun, playing with it is fun. Least favorite is Boros then probably Gruul. I've built several Dimir commanders in the past and all of them played quite differently. Dralnu, Phenax and Scarab God are all decks I've owned at one point I have a deep fondness for. Big Butts on Phenax was noval, Dralnu was so risky to play but the pay off was huge. He was the gambler's commander because it could really blow up in your face. Scarab God let you steal and reanimate. I ended up using the Eldrazi Processors to get multiple copies of my opponent's best creatures.
For me Dimir, Golgari and Izzet are my favorites with Simic being 4th. Simic has been getting a bad rap as of late but honestly, it has some really cool commanders like Experiment Kraj or Prime Speaker Vannifar. Yeah, Vannifar usually plays the same but I really like birthing pod. I think its a really fun strategy.
Azorious I can't stand playing against. Even the "Fair" Azorious decks are miserable to play against. "Oh you just spent 10 minutes resolving blink triggers, are we dead? No, there's a chance we could get out of this? What's the odds, can we just move on to the next game?" Playing with Azorious is fun.
Yenna, Redtooth Regent is my favorite current commander. The exponential potential with copies of doubling season or anointed procession is ridiculous. Even just one copy made of Three Blind Mice early game just keeps snowballing.
Im pleased that Azorius isnt the worst. I got my start in Azorius... with the First Flight Commander precon. Bird aggro is the red headed stepchild of Azorius but I really enjoy it, and Bloomburrow has thrown me so many new toys. Kastel!
Gev is also far and away my favorite new toy in Rakdos, I love my turn two commander drops and Rakdos Charm against a infinite loop token player is the funniest turn 3 knock out Ive ever perpetrated in my life.
I run a Dimir Ramses, Assassin Lord deck. It poisons, proliferates, Voltrons and has counter spells. It's fun because I have to take out a player while the table tries to stop me.
“Red is weak” *laughs in zada*
For green/white, I have a Siona deck that loves creating humans with my auras and banging out damage across the whole board
I 100% thought this was gonna be a lore video of the Ravnica guilds in which case its like the reverse of this list lol
golgari is absolutely the swiss army knife guild. it. can. do. everything.
ramp. draw. kill anything. recover. engines. synergies. game enders.
I play my Imoti + Keruga deck. End of turn flash in my hullbreaker horror. Untap and Cast Apex Devastator. I challenge you to find ANYTHING in magic that's more fun than that :D
My ranking before I watch the video, prove me wrong 😁:
10 (least fun): Boros
9: Azorius
8: Gruul
7: Rakdos
6: Selesnya
5: Orzhov
4: Golgari
3: Izzet
2: Dimir
1 (most fun): Simic
Rakdos being #7 is wild. Their parties are to die for
yeah swap rakdos and simic's places and i agree
I play Inniaz as my Azorius. Flying tribal, sure, but passing stuff around like a yankee swap when I swing can make things very interesting.
Also I rock Niv Parun with zero infinites, as more of a controlled burn.
"Dimir has no distinct identity"
Resource denial...
Really solid rankings. My fav deck I own is Gruul with Agatha of the Vile Cauldron it’s so much fun. Building both Laughing Jasper Flint and Vraska the Silencer right now and those will be my first decks in those guilds and I love stealing stuff so I’m excited. Agreed about Stella Lee, bought the precon and upgraded it and will be tearing it apart lol
I’m a die hard golgari fan aswell, normally I pair it with another colour. My favourite pet deck atm is Chevil, bane of monsters. A weird combo of deathtouch tribal and tons of removal. It punches up really well due to tones of interaction
i feel like araumi is actually a really cool and unique-ish dimir commander.
Breezy- “Copying a time stretch? I’m out, I don’t care what you do.”
*Me, in Izzet, doing Izzet Bullshit, copying Expropriate twice.
Orzhov is my favorite by a country mile. Rakdos is my number two, though
thx for vid. I have build a house, plant a tree, and made a kid so now I can have some serious life goal like have a deck for each color combination
This was a cool video. I’d like to see it for the triads next!
Golgari, Azorious, and Simic are my absolute favorites while Orzhov, Selesnya, and Izzet hold 2nd place.
I just frikkin love Ravnica in general.
My List is
1. Orzhov (I love lifegain and drain, aristocrats, reanimate, pay life, Angels, Vampires, access to best removals, that pair of yin and yang in a game feels cool)
2. Rakdos (I like shooting and pinging, sacrificing, reanimate, treasures, its like hell for my opponents, punishing and indirect play style)
3. Gruul (Big stuff to cheat out, ramp, Dragons and trampling biggies)
4. Simic (Landfall, Ramp and copy stuff is super powerful)
5. Golgari (Tokens, reanimate, landfall, destructive stuff, love that swampy bad ass vibe, but I prefere to have access to Simic, so to look for a sultai commander)
6. Selesnya (I like Tokens, Enchantments and Lifegain, but most commanders feel boring)
7. Izzet (don‘t like Spellslinger, but Artifacts. Prefere a third color to combine with izzet)
8. Boros (I like Voltron, but 90% of the deck always stays the same, no matter whats your boros commander, so its a little boring)
9. Dimir (These decks are hard to master and keep up on the table, I only play my lotr wraiths deck and I have a hard time to draw enough cards or to ramp)
10. Azorius (I find no interesting commander in these colors, combines with red is perfect for artifacts, but azorius alone seems super uninteresting)
Is there a world where extra turn spells are what makes a deck viable instead of a week, and in turn, you're up for playing against them?
I've had this idea for a couple of commanders/decks. They'd NEVER work unless against a blind built deck buuuut if you trigger a double extra turn it might have a chance.
Been into Magic for a few months, and watching a LOT. Of different channels. This video just cemented your channel as my favorite. I fucking LOVE Golgari. I only have 2 commander decks so far. But both are Golgari. Graveyard play is just the most fun in any card game ive played. Look forward to more videos guys!
One question! Ive kind of become the focus of my pod to kill first. Im running a Meren deck, basically constantly forcing everyone to sacrifice their board til a draw into a win con (usually an infinite combo)
My pod is fairly competitive, what are some tips you have for winning in a reanimate deck without resorting to infinites (mikaues/triskelion) kind of stuff.
Or what are some good Golgari decks that dont seem OP out of the gate but can sneak wins?
Thanks guys!
So glad you’re enjoying the channel! We love Golgari here! I play it for graveyard value and Mia loves it for having ramp and removal. I think the best way to clinch wins without infinites is to go for one-shot KOs with things like Living Death or Rise of the Dark Realms grabbing everything you’ve milled over all at once, then sacrificing everything to get death triggers. That usually does the trick for us
yall sleepin on dimir my captain N'gathrod goes crazy
Gruul, Rakdos. The only guilds out there.
Dimir is a weird way to say Boros, my favorite is probably Simic but its def fitting where yall ranked it, and boros is my least favorite by a landslide, im hoping ditching equipments for a sunforge Firesong and Sunspeaker deck can change my mind.
The recent "Kill-Crime" Dimir deck archtype was pretty dang fun... Idk.
I would turn you into a Crab ox Octopus for that simic Ranking, but since Izzet and Golgari are in Top, your Mistake is forgiven.
I’ve been considering building a Yusri deck myself! Glad to see it’s the favorite of a popular MTG person. I also recently build a Nath of the Gilt-Leaf discard/elf/group hug deck that I can’t wait to play for Golgari.
I love simic my favorite color pair. In commander. Draw cards, play lands. You do stuff. All the time. Interaction. Etc. also the point of view for the nitpickers is different from mine. I like doing things. Spinning wheels and always doing something. I love winning. It ain’t simic but one my my favorite commander is the elmimster. The constant scry and being on blue and white for interaction. Similar stories for simic.
"Loss of life like OG Rakdos"
Hellbent would like a word
I kind of hate what they did to Simic. Yeah, "good stuff" is fun for a few games, but Graft synergies are more interesting. The original guildmage is actually pretty cool
Honestly, they should have put squirrels in Simic, as a callback to when squirrel opposition decks were a thing in standard. Chatterfang they just became saprolings but with a parallel lives, sac outlet, and removal in the command zone.
When i play dimir i like to think of a card like Evil Twin. Impersonate/steal other things and kill off/prevent problems.
Azorius at #6 is wild, feel like I only see stax in those colors
I though it'd be the least fun
Azorius affinity is fun lowkey
Hardened Azorius player here, finding fun things to do in Azorius colours, like flash or flicker decks or whatever is its that Chun-li is doing, isn't actually all that hard to do. The problem is the Azorius players that only play stax, they're the ones who make it unfun, it's the players not the colour combo itself, though I might be a little bias cause it's my favorite combo to play but I hate stax.
@Purewater100Percent I have a Belaruius Cawl deck, that I enjoy. It's an artifact army deck.
@xanderjones6239
Artifacts aren't my favorite thing in MTG, but i do have a soft spot for my 50 dollar budget Malcator, Purity Overseer deck
I’m glad you put azorius as high as you did. I feel like control players are the cock blockers of magic. They’re just masochistic people that get off on not letting anyone have a good time. But you definitely should’ve ranked boros above it.
Boros best is astor, bearer of blades. Helps feel the hand with equipment and equip becomes 1.
Favorite guild is orzhov and azorius. Aristocrats is just fun for me, azorius control is fun to be able to interact with everyone.
"Ooh I can't wait to see where they put my beloved Dimir!"

I'm glad my two most favorite guilds are the most fun. I always like playing with my Golgari and Rakdos decks due to all the crazy things you can perform on the dot.
Araumi, the Grave Tide, self mill encore, I love that deck. That's my bid for dimir.
the correct answer for worst orzhov commander is Karlov of the ghost council, I never had a game against that deck where everyone didnt accrew at least 4 commander tax
Heck yeah, Golgari bb! Goth Girl farming for the win! I've been building a Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest as a tokens, +1/+1 Death's Presence style deck. Make big creatures, kill them into smaller creatures to kill them into bigger creatures 💀
"Dimir doesnt have an identity" Of course it has an identity. The problem is the identity is overshadowed by the power of mono black and mono blue spells so you dont see many dimir spells in dimir decks. Dimir is the cunning trickers, liars, manipulators, spies, pirates, and decievers.
Dimir is about subtly and manipulation which doesnt go well with commander. So the decks rely on the more potent counters of blue and power of black. Dimir commanders usually focus on small evasive bodies, using the oppoments resources against them, milling, or controlling the opponent.
The casters are usually illusionist, or mind mages represented by interfering with the opponents hand or deck. Talion, phenax, Oona.
Then theres those who take control of their opponents or seal their secrets like Xanithar, silumgar, or Grima.
The combat focused commanders like alela cunning conquerer or the ninja who shall go unnamed are trickers and assassins abusing evasive bodies to make the oppoent do what you want.
Another 2 identies in dimir are the dark mage too clever for their good, or Eldredge monsters. Those who open pathways to the unspeakable and horrors who are too frightening to fathom. Umbris, gyruda, n'gathrod are examples of unspeakable horrors while Wilhelt, lord of nazgul, and the scarob god are examples of the ambitious meddling on things that shouldnt be meddled in.
The last identity in Dimir is the betrayers, those who gave up their home or kin for power. Rona and Tezzeret come to mind.
Simic is funny because sometimes you get double the mana of your opponents and then you can spam
I love drafting Dimir but struggle with it in EDH. I ran Sygg for years as the head of multiple decks (rogues, steal stuff, control, & good stuff). None had a real identity that fit Sygg, though; he was just a value engine (before several better were printed). Dimir control/steal was my go to at LGS random games as it was excellent as a power neutral deck and could handle just about anything that was not pure enchantress (pre Sythis). Basically, it scaled with the table better than most decks. Recently, I have been running Mirko surveil at 25 USD budget, and it has been a blast.
I think Simic should be given a Flash identity since Yeva was printed.
Overall imo very solid list, maybe I'll just swap golgari and rakdos and Boros and orzhov, just maybe tho
Guilds just wanna have fun, oh guilds just wanna have fun 🎉
I’m new to magic, but I’m learning that I very much like Izzet.
I was gonna write an angry comment about Azorius being higher than Dimir and Simic, but you regained my respect for the position you put Golgari in
Golgari is my favorite. My very first commander deck was Sarulf, Realm Eater. I still play it. Shelob and Chatterfang are my other favorite commanders. I know... squirrels. But I don't care, it's so satisfying to make a zillion rodents. Orzav is my next favorite. I love the Ixalan vampire deck and I recently made a Ratabraga (probably spelled that wrong) legendary tribal deck. It's so fun to make zombie tokens and then bring them back.
I wanted to ask, I imagine Sarulf gets a lot of hate ?
@@jeremyseabrook4053 yes
Me as an ugly fellas and self-milling enjoyer just came in to see where my favorite guild was placed and was really amazed to see that it is on 1st! In my playgroup I'm the only one ho likes golgari at all and I'm called the "grave guy" all the time, my fave commanders are Hapatra and Mycotyrant at the moment
Me with my Rivaz Dragon Rakdos deck: hurr durr I like big dargons
Immediately lists my three favorite guild colors:
I don’t have much input on this. I’m a “Love to Hate myself” 3+ color player.
Would an XXR spell that reads "Destroy x target lands. If a non basic land is destroyed this way search for a basic" - be enough to disciplin landfall decks?
