I’m a platinum selling engineer and a music editor on a 2x time Emmy winning show. This is kind of startling. But we’ve known it’s coming and I’ve been learning how to “control the machine”
is there a special meaning to "control the machine," or does it just mean you're surrendered to using it (no judgement)
As a music producer for the past 15 years my blood, sweat, tears and loads of my time has gone into perfecting the craft.. Its just sad that its all getting reduced to a click of a mouse with no time invested in the skill set.. this sucks big time... I feel this is deeply wrong
im in a similar position mate, i devoted my entire life to music for nothing.
The Shoulders of Giants.
I wouldn't worry. I use it to help my various crafts. It has massive limitations. All of them. I use Chat a lot for programming and AU in Photoshop for visual projects. AI needs you to be worth anything. It can definitely speed up our work.
This is the complete wrong way of thinking about this whole AI situation. You have to adapt and use AI to help yourself. Make songs faster, have more freedom. The next big skill to make money is, to know how AI can be used and integrated in your work.
ahahaha
AI already schedules my medical appointments. Now restaurants are having them take orders at drive throughs.
If a restaurant is taking orders it’s not AI . What is AI ? It is Artificial Intelligence, so mostly it’s used for decision making based on probability. So how is taking restaurant order AI ? Is it predicting what kind of food you like based on your history. In that case it’s just a lame use
Its going to be diagnosing you as well pretty soon
I got my food delivered by a robot yesterday at Anna Maria oyster bar.
Yep, those that have an IQ below 80 will be jobless. On the other hand, those same people will not need jobs because: you pay for groceries, go home and access your digital locker, advertisers will have bids in as offers for your DATA, and pay you more than you spent buying the groceries in the first place. DATA is the new Gold.
Physical atrophy is gonna be the future pandemic
Unfortunately, in today's society, as soon as you post something on the internet, it no longer belongs to you. And I don't know how we will ever truly combat this.
Why would you want to combat that?
Everything we create should be like that.
We create things for the benefit of others, the only reason for intellectual property and/or copyright, is for financial reasons and hopefully that will change one day.
Never put anything on internet if you don’t want to be copied
That didn't start with the internet. Magazines printed photos of people, and millions of people had those photos to do whatever they wanted with. Songs were on the radio, and people recorded them onto cassette tapes. Etc.
If you make something, you have two options: keep it to yourself, and no one else can use it; or share it with other people, and accept that those other people can now use it. Trying to share it with others, but also tell them "you can hear this, but you're not allowed to learn from it or be inspired by it in any way", is ridiculous.
That's a flaw in that Microsoft has to fix I can think of multiple ways to fix it

haha thanks!
Been in the industry 30 years, my last 4-5 have been lifechanging in regards to monetizing my craft finally. Self made success story and right now sitting on a catalog worth many M's... . .. A few years ago when AIVA and ecrette and similar launched, I said "give it two years, this doesn't create vocals yet, or drops, builders, sweeps, gapfills, falls, intro/outros, and it's still very synthetic". It happened pretty much on que, and no I didn't think it would be THIS good. My whole crew and I are contemplating our next moves re selling the catalog vs competing and innovating and continuing to feed the monster/dsp's.
I feel like we are in the novelty stage, like with chatgpt, once everyone and their mom uses suno or udio, there will be a big return to our classics, 80/90's remixes, covers, and live acts. I also think the DSPs/platforms will all soon have to create a whole separate system for AI, maybe an on/off button for synthetic content as everything is going to get flooded with music 10x-100x more now. I also notice it's mostly the meme/funny songs going viral, which never have longevity, a human soul is still needed for other humans to relate to and fall in love/interest with.
agreed, I wish there was something that allows listeners to know when AI was used when making a song/art work (art I'm better at detecting) because it feels deceptive, I listen to music/look at art/read writing to relate to other humans with lived, human experiences that come through their artwork. I don't listen to music only when it's impressive or 'good', you have to feel something on the other end.
Some of it sounds like generic pop. If the radio were to simply push the song like some artists they do now, it could possibly chart and the public wouldn't really know or care for that matter.
Billions of people relate to and binge listen songs that barely have any substance anyway
Artists like you name em.. drake, iggy, lil wayne. Theyre just catchy
Real music is going to be just live “an experience” from human to human, the artificial created music is external, synthetic, yes it could be entertainment, but not a real experience.
Indeed. Once the initial "wow" of AI generated images faded I now get 100% uninterested as soon as I see an AI generated image, no matter how "cool" it is.
The same will probably happen to music.
Beans and Dreams! That song was legit.
5:45 the AI did good, I can imagine music for commercials etc. Scary
Do you have a link to it?
God they need to be paying all the people they stole that data from
Or to enter a new age where Intelectual Property becomes Public while new creations drive prices down fast and we all benefit.
@@alexmunoz2032 Definitely not a black-and-white issue. And playing with the tools are a lot of fun. Some of the tools I use for work like magic mask in resolve. The thing is though the people that are running in these corporations. "To the most part or after only money". And other corporations want to save money. Why pay a artist to make a creation when there is a different artist that made a similar creation on a different project that a model has been trained with. Imagine you spend a bunch of time emotional and creative energy and then you see something very very similar that someone says they made with a prompt. They claim it as theirs... Technology and innovation in my opinion is a big part of what us humans are all about. I just think it's important to give credit where it's due.
Humanity is screwed. Good luck everyone
Not really. In the end its just capitalism as we know it that is screwed.
No money without jobs. No selling without money. 🤔
When AI does everything the current system is bscly. finished.

Job displacement happens all the time. 5-10 years ago companies paid hundreds of thousands of to web agencies to build websites. This time is over, replaced by website generators. Web developers had to adapt and I believe most did, musicians have to do the same.
Yep. Literally no need for musicians now from a commercial standpoint. Wow our lives are so much better now 🤣

Among your better videos - thoughtful, researched, entertaining. Hmm, hair combed forward - a situation? Yeah what’s going on with the hair? 😂 Must not have had time to style it. This is one busy man.
Sorry I'm going back and work on The classic Mercury I have.
Good luck with this
I'm not a musician but this will DEFINITELY trigger tons of lawsuits. If the AI was trained on (and comes up with derivative work) there will be serious questions of copyright violations. A lot of major music artists are sued every year from other musical artists saying their work was partially copied and used in the new song. See: Gap Band/Trinidad James/more vs. Mark Ronson (Uptown Funk), Queen & David Bowie vs. Vanilla Ice (Ice Ice Baby) Marvin Gaye and Funkadelic vs. Robin Thicke & Pharrel Williams (Blurred Lines), etc. Some aren't successful in court, but some are. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out but I'd be surprised if there weren't at least a flurry of lawsuits early on, similar to how Napster got hammered for copyright violations and went bankrupt.
The argument would be that humans are trained by listening to other songs as well and therefore so long as the created product is not a blatant rip off of another artist then it is fair game.
@@Gokutrump This argument has been used in actual cases of musical copyright and many have lost. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, nor am I saying that AI training is the same thing as "sampling" or "inspired by" type songs, but that's what has been the precedent. If you Google "rip off songs" you'll see many cases of musical artists who were "inspired by" another song losing a case and having to give up some royalties on their new creation because a court found it derivative of the original work. We don't know how the law will apply to AI usage at this point, but regardless, I don't think the record labels will allow it to happen without trying to get a piece of the pie if they can, justified or not.
Humans appears to be blocked by papers and documents. AI is limitless, will flood the world with creations.
I wouldn't wonder if AI is actually better in avoiding sich similarities. Cause it can check the output by the entire input afterwards.
Great Magic show and editing job.
I'd be interested to see how the "sampling" aspect plays out in courts. I'd say it's harder to prove copyright infringement in music because of musical structures. Like Ed Sheeran just won a major lawsuit last year about this. He was accused of stealing chord progression from Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On" when creating "Thinking Out Loud." The court ultimately decided that "we all benefit from artists being free to create and build on what came before them...[otherwise] creativity will be stifled for fear of being sued."
We have a musical scale and harmonies that flow together. Literally billions of people have participated in the creation of music since the dawn of time. I don't like the idea of artists being forced to compete with AI capabilities. But at the end of the day, a big part of what makes music a truly human experience is the emotion and passion behind the notes. Until AI can replicate human emotions, artists and musicians will still have a place.
I agree, it'll be really interesting to see the cases play out worldwide about how sampling will be treated. Looks like Europe took a pretty hard stance against it
that's interesting.
The P-Zombie thought experiment shows that an AI which behaves like it has emotions is indistinguishable from an AI that does have emotions. In that regard, some of the biggest LLMs (especially prior to RLHF fine-tuning) may already be considered to have emotions.
That said... human artists and musicians will always have a place even after that, because art is not a rival good. An AI being good at music doesn't stop humans from still making music. It's the same way that Beyonce and Ed Sheeran being successful, popular, and talented doesn't stop indie artists from making music, and it doesn't stop anyone else from singing to themselves in the car. Others making art well doesn't stop anyone else from continuing to make art, too; that's true whether "others" are humans or AIs.
I have an active subscription with Suno, and I must say, the quality of music they produce are impressive. HOWEVER, after listening to several songs that I've generated, I realized that, although the music was really well done, it doesn't have the soul. The lack of being able to associate the song to an artist who is actually performing the song is missing. Imagine listening to a very nice country music, with a wonderful melody, wonderful lyrics, but you can't imagine the face of the artist performing the song. Its just not there... At best, artists can capitalize on this platform as a way to jumpstart their music production, by using AI to 'help' them lay the foundation of their next great song.
There are also many artists who do not show their faces. They produce music behind the scenes. The totality of their work and ideas have been sucked up into these machines for cheap redistribution (making money for the UDIO investors and none for the people who's work was appropriated for the training of the neural nets). Just because these people are faceless to the general public, do you think it is fair that they don't get to have their careers anymore?
@@arpaddanos9416 At this point, what I think doesn't matter anymore. The reality is, AI is already here, and there seems to be no sign of regulating its use, and no one is establishing any boundaries in terms of its rapid development as of this writing.
@@iPadChannel True. Do you think we should put up any boundaries or just let the venture capitalists run amuk with it?
@@arpaddanos9416 There are several groups around the world who are working on legislations to govern the ethical aspects of developing and using AI. But until then, this free-for-all buffet will continue.

Your videos stand out Andre. You are one of a kind.
Genuine question Andre.
Do you have any investment in UDIO and Suno Ai and the other folks you know?
No I wish! I think those companies are private
Just live long enough and you'll see it all! Wow!👀👀
Already talks of AI being about to eventually stop and even reverse aging- so living long enough shouldn't be a problem ;)
Love your content
thanks!
I think that compensation needs to happen for any of the original artists who are being sampled in the creation of these songs. It's simply not fair. If AI can generate these songs, it can also trace and link a CAE/IPI number and provide proper compensation. This does not feel like a difficult or complicated problem - it feels like a greed problem. These CEOs of these companies know full well what they are doing and it is theft, period. If it were somehow generating (let's say through midi) these songs from algorithmic variations depending on genre stipulations, that might be different- but it's "creating new samples based on existing samples."
The AI doesn't need to sampling the copyrighted music to create song similar to it. Music have finite notes, and thousands of years of human music history. There will be repetitions of melody, and a lot similar ones. And with every music it created, it will be smarter and smarter to understand what kind of music that we like. Just try UDIO, you will understand what I mean. We are way past beyond fairness right now, not even the government can decide what to do with this technology.
Japan has the right idea, embrace new technology. The same way we embraced cars over horses.
Soulless AI music might come out better than those made by talentless creators, but people are not going to give up listening to real humans en masse, especially w/ the live aspect. Only thing people might do is generate some AI beat and try to hide it in their work, but I imagine it will be received just as well as people who try to pass off AI photos as their own art. And at the end of the day, art isn't even a zero sum game.
Oh yes, people want to connect with the artist. Music is about emotion first and foremost.
you're wrong, it's in it's infancy....extrapolate it even by a year. The best musicians will be the best prompters.
@@johnmiller9953 is still a long way off, AI is only capable of generating music, not creating or innovating, it generates music from other artists' music and creates variations of them, but only humans are capable of innovation, music is generic and let's say mediocre (I'm part of that group hahah) it won't pay as well as before, only those outside the curve, the many talented people who innovate will survive, the problem is that no one is born talented, they evolve to reach that level, I don't know what's next generations or even the current generation will want to invest their time and dedication to become great musicians, I think there will be little support for this.

After about a week of messing around with Udio, I can say that it's very good at pinning down specific genres. It does have some trouble generating suitable outros for full-length songs though. Sometimes you'll have to have it generate 6-8 or more iterations to get something that fits the rest of the song.

When you talk about copyright law, you should mention JEN-2 which is trained exclusively on copyright held music (artists like Sia, Snoop and other A lists have signed on)
It's disheartening to witness the decline of opportunities and monetary lost for small-scale and underground composers in various fields like film, commercials, gaming, DJ and electronic music. As someone who's part of this community, I empathize deeply.
Eventually, I believe music will return to its roots as a revered art form. Musicians will reclaim intimate venues like cozy pubs, concert halls, and clubs, where they'll perform live with authentic REAL instruments, promoting their records and reveling in the pure joy of their craft. People will pay for that, people will love that.
