  • Annual guy trip to West Yellowstone Montana for back country snowmobiling. We had incredible snow, typical for February.

    Minnesota boys know how to ride in the alpine? Love the dino suit.

      Haha thanks! 'know how to ride' is very subjective. We know enough to get around and hopefully back in time for dinner!

    Enjoyed your video. Thanks for taking the time to produce it. No offense, but were you carrying AV gear and the beacons were off until you felt you were in a sketchy spot? You need to do beacon checks as soon as you leave the hood and leave them on until back at camp.

      Thanks for the comment! As far as AV gear, we all had beacons on and prod gear/shovels. Honestly, we were mostly in meadows and stayed clear of slopes over 30 degrees. Definitely something to take seriously out there.

    #2 is a sketchy rule. I'd want to avoid exposure to avalanche terrain. Other then that snow looked amazing.

      Totally agree. Back story: the night before we had watched multiple CZcams videos of snowmobilers caught in avalanches, which is no joke and scary. In the video we were being a bit facetious as we really didn't want to experience a slide. The snow was awesome.

      February snow is typically stable if you pay attention to your snow pits. Ever been to Seeley lake? Plan a trip. It’s EPIC! Look at the topo

    Very cool video, looks like what some average Joe snowmobile riders can expect. Not everybody is a Chris Brandt.

      Thanks! And yeah, a bunch of average Joe riders from MN! No need to get in crazy terrain to have fun out there!

    Looks like amazing pow to smash out there. Is there anything you could suggest for rental sleds and staying? Thinking on planning to go next year for my 50th birthday bash.

    • @rossberglund
      @rossberglund  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Brian! The snow is pretty crazy out there. We rented from Yellowstone Adventures (Ski doo), and we always have a good experience with them. They have new sleds every season. Highmark rentals is also an option (Polaris I think). Comparable pricing. We own/operate a vrbo/Airbnb in a neighborhood just out of town ( www.vrbo.com/1762543 ). It's a nice option for the money. There are plenty of options to stay in town at a hotel, or other house rentals. Feel free to message me with other questions.

      @@rossberglund thanks for the info. What are your thoughts about Polaris west Yellowstone for rentals?

      @@brianquarnstrom2000 Good question. I've never used them personally, but it looks like they have good reviews, so I'd try them out if they have what you want!

    Any avy bags? SPOT trackers? Beacons in the backpacks?? 🤦‍♂️

    • @rossberglund
      @rossberglund  Před 3 lety

      Good questions. We all had beacons, prods and shovels. We had airbags last year, but we stay away from sketchy slopes.

    • @Icutmetal
      @Icutmetal Před 3 lety

      @@rossberglund That’s good; we do the same, but it feels silly not to wear one now, no matter where we end up or stay away from. You’ve got to consider runout zones & terrain traps, too. Borrow, rent, or buy an airbag- it’s all cheap insurance. I bought a MTNPRO bag/vest combo last season with charged cylinder for half price used, and it was barely used.
      It’s great to have beacons, shovels, and probes, but no way would I keep a beacon in a backpack- those need to be accessible immediately without any fumbling.
      SPOT Trackers are also a must in my opinion; most of our group carries them. It’s nice being able to send an “I’m ok” ping to friends and family, and have that SOS button in case of emergency. Cell phones can’t be counted on for help in the backcountry.
      I’m by no means an expert and avoid a lot of difficult terrain & areas too, but safety is no joke.

    Who do you guys go through for lodging and rentals?

    • @rossberglund
      @rossberglund  Před 3 lety +1

      We rent through 'Yellowstone Adventures', but 'High Mark Rentals' is also a good option that I've heard. We own a Lodge that we vrbo/Airbnb in a neighborhood a few miles out of town.
