I doubt he did dat, because it would take at least a year. I hate this match up for him. I'm gonna root for him and believe all the way in him, but this a tough one. If he feels he can win it, I hope his feeling isn't rooted in his confidence as a fighter.
For real. This is sanctioned murder. What does Max have for Justin Gaethje? You have to have serious power, or a elite grappling to crack his 75% TDD. He throws absolute bombs, round after round, he doesn't stop and he has an iron chin. Max is going to absorb some life-changing damage in this fight. I feel bad for him. This feels like such spiteful matchmaking.

Max can bulk up. That fight with Dustin was on short notice. Halloway just walk out there fat, that is not good way to move up and he still performed great. Although, Justin is really big and hit even harder.

Everyone is saying Holloway just ruined his career by taking this fight - but this is MMA and I love seeing fighters go against the odds, isn't that what makes this sport so great? He's about to get KO'd? Cool, Then that happens! Isn't that what makes this sport so good? I'd rather see him take this gamble then continue being put against people we know he's gonna beat, where's the spirit in that? We could either witness him go in there and "die" or fu/kn pull it off and become Great! As MMA fans we shouldn't have that mentality of "oh he shouldn't have done this, or that." Nah, Holloway has made his millions, he's made his name, he's gone around the block and solidified his dominance - if he's getting a chance to go up against Gaethje and take this great gamble then why shouldn't he? he trained with Samart Payakroon for his fight against Calvin Kattar, and Samart is well known for being able to fight like Muhammad Ali but in Muay Thai. And he can check leg kicks while moving backwards or sideways without wasting energy
Samart is also known for having limited power, like Max but he's such a master at timing and countering that he got several KO's
the only weakness is the stance is susceptible to takedowns

My exact first thoughts mismatch imo
As a max fan it is hard to accept that the power max has in his hands is just not enough for 55 (as his body stands now, he will not survive gaethje if he doesn't some how bulk up in these 3 months) but it is true. This will be an even bigger power diff than against poirier. And looking at max's last fight which he did win by KO, that shit just will not fly against justin. To KO korean zombie max had to bend his ENTIRE back into that punch, and if he tries anything like that justin will just put a shin on his face sending him into tony ferguson land.
Max is great at the weight he normally fights at. Not lightweight.

@MMA Che I agree that it is a near impossible matchup for Holloway, however, the path to victory remains in lateral movement for the entire fight or just movement in general. If he doesn't let Justin get distance control than the set ups that he has now learned wont work. If max ditches his pocket boxing for a "Izzy" style fight but with his own abilities it will be close if not winnable for Max. If max enters the pocket i say it is a 25/75 chance he loses. If he never stops moving and doesn't get backed against the cage i say it is a 50/50 fight for sure. Max has a great IQ for fighting and Gaethje is getting older and just developed set up skill this late in his career (if he had more time to develop those new skills i would say max has zero chance).

and Samart fights on the backfoot, loves using his lead hand and leans back to dodge like Muhammad Ali but in Muay Thai
he has a unique way of checking leg kicks too so Max could learn how to check
the problem is that Samart is a counter heavy style, but when has Max ever been a counter heavy fighter?
@@OliverOils that is one of my points, he needs to implement a strategy in order to be successful against any of the top 5 lightweights and top 3 featherweights. He has his style sure but he needs to change but still use what he is good at to be able to beat guys who are bigger and more comfortable at the weight class than him. Out skill these guys and use that featherweight knowledge and timing to out work (with being elusive) the slightly slower lightweights. If i were him I'd do a camp in thailand for a month to learn knees and clinch as well as kicking defense and balance with the new skills. (honestly if he just did most of his camps between his home gym and tiger muay thai he would become a world beater (volk goes to tiger and at a lot of over gyms) Max still does it old school with staying at home for training and that will never get him to be the best sadly (he is amazing but nothing beats cross training and humbling yourself to learn from everything; that is why volk beats him)

The hardest puncher ( I mean One punch KO POWER) in lightweight is actually Olivera, and after that Chandler. Those dudes have much more power in their hands than Gaethje.
