www.NewMexicoPBS.org - A brief look at why salt cedar has become an invasive species in New Mexico's central Rio Grande Valley. For more New Mexico PBS content visit www.NewMexicoPBS.org
Some of this video is not entirely factual. For example- there has been no published research supporting the idea that Tamarisk [SaltCedar] uptakes 200 gallons of water/day. That value is quite astronomical.
The light purple fronds on it are deceptively pretty. The 2 specimens that appeared in my planters (one in each) were very slow growing, at first. When I realized what they were, the roots had been invading deep into drainage area of the planter, choking off some of my leeks and peppers. I will bag up the roots to prevent the rhizomes from gaining a foothold in my yard. My infestation was contained, so far, to my planters.
It is advisable to use a different plant, preferably one not invasive, for landscaping purposes or as noise barriers. This can be sold as an ornamental, please do not purchase. Find a native alternative, or... a foreign "alien" species which will not spread...
You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. You must love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus the anointed is Lord! Repent and be baptized and believe the Gospel.

ASU has done some studies showing otherwise.
