In the Philippines, probably majority of the skimboarders use wooden boards.

I once had a baseball glove that I bought at a thrift shop for $5, I played a solid year doing my absolute best. I was terrible and played left outfield. After the year my mom bought me a second hand $35 glove off some rich kid. They made me catcher a week after my game with that new glove. You all say you learnt on a wooden board yet shit all over them. They made you good at it. You learnt, and grew with your board.
its just impossible to catch waves on a wooden board they meant for flat ground.
i mean, wood is fine if you don't want to hit waves... people who do hit waves on wood probably learned waves on fiberglass first and then translated that back to wood
Lord of Things - This is funny, So I used a rotary corded phone when I was growing up. Would I recommend someone to go buy one and get a landline today - It works and I can make calls! OR would i suggest a low cost cell phone based on the evolution on a phone?? The same applies to Austin analogy regarding the technological advance to skimboarding! Hope this make sense now!!

Awesome video! I just started skimboarding on a wooden board. You make it look so easy. I am lucky if I can glide across the sand. I end up falling or sinking.

wood boards are definitely not recommended for catching waves, or even just going too far out in the water. Fiberglass is the best way to go, try the zap wedge, a great way to learn and start to become good!

Haha that’s awesome I made one in 2004 when I was 12 and it looked like a football! It skimmed horribly but it sure was fun!
My first skim board was round too haha. Still only have a wood one, but it's pretty big and no longer round.

When I was a kid back in the '80s we made a bunch of plywood skimboards. You could see them fold like a taco as we rode them. Then I discovered your channel. WHAT!? FOAM AND FIBERGLASS!? Just bought one and gonna give it another try.

Austin man.. This was wild. I have my very first wooden skim board from when I was a kid on the wall in our downstairs bathroom. Got it in 2001 when I was 8 years old. Never got rid of it. you know whats a trip is i found an old "morey" brand wooden skimboard,.. isnt morey a boogie board brand? the board was covered in this crazy paint maybe picasso did it but i peeled it off... found it in down town laguna one night..after a long quest :D

plot twist, here in the philippines most skinboarders use wooden boards. some of the pros stick to it. it's because of the conditions and many spots are not safe for a foam type board (just like where I skim) and only few can afford a foam type board there's no excile shop here. btw, would really to win that boars Mr. Keen keep skimming you inspired many of us here 🤙🤙🤙🤙

I have a wooden board rn and I’m saving up for a dbskimboards one
We used to make them with 3/8 in. marine plywood. We'd shape them paint them and seal them. Probably NO comparing the with todays whomp boards, but back in the 60's if ya wanted to whomp, ya needed a board.

Here in our country, we are using wooden skimboards for wave riding and it's not shitty as u think. And that board ur using is designed for flat land skimboarding, not for wave rides and it's too small for you.

I am a beginner with a wooden board and I got some speedway to try with it
I want to go fast, but it's always windy so when I drop it the wind just blows my board over while dropping
I just bought a skim board...brand new at it and the board I bought is probably the same exact size and I'm 6' 200 lbs. Seems like it sinks right away as soon as I jump on it. Can't really get any momentum on it...especially being brand new. I only been 2 days now.
AK hitting barrels on the 742 makes me look so bad but I'd do anything for that board... maybe I'd learn a thing or two hopping on that bad boy after it's been blessed by the man himself
