Before you learn raag Yaman, following is the information that enables you to get acquainted with it at theoretical level.
Yaman involves all the 7 notes with 'tivr' (sharp note) Madhyam and therefore known as a heptatonic (Sampurna) Hindustani Classical raga of Kalyan Thaat.
Yaman can be sung at any point of time however it is particularly rendered during the evening.

Namashkar sir. I love the way your teaching method is sir. You patiently explain the concepts and go step by step on how to learn bada khayal and that is what is needed in a good guru. I have watched many CZcams videos on how to learn bada khayal and I have found that this is what is missing in the other CZcams videos that I have watched. Learning bada khayal is a difficult concept. Some grasp it quickly and others need time to grasp it. This is what my guru says. Bada khayal chota khayal, mere toe saare khayal gum ho jaate hain when listening to you sing sirji. I could listen to your sweet voice singing bada khayal all day Nishantji! wah wah! I know you prefer ghazals but I LOVE it when you sing Shaastriya Sangeet.

very helpful sir. i am a student of hindustani classical music for the past six years. i did learn some hindustani music in my younger days which included madhyalay bandishes, bhajans, ghazals and playing harmonium. Now for the past 6 years, i have learnt more madhyalay khayal, vilambit khayal, drut khayal, tarana, and some thumri. I have learnt vilambit in rags yaman, bhimpalasi, bageshree, rageshree, puriya danashree, bihag, maru bihag, kalavathi, kalingda, jaunpuri, jog, gorakh kalyan, ahir bhairav and many others
I used to avoid Bada Khayal and it Seemed very difficult to me for learn so I stop learning music. But I never knew that this song is so beautiful and so simple . It's all thanks to you that I now know between the differences. I wish I could learn music again from you. Thank you very much sir.

Guruji. The ekthal teka is dhin dhin dhage thirakita thu na katha dhage thirakita Kita dhi na which is twelve matras and used in madhyalay and drut khayal, and this is slowed down in vilambit khayal or bada khayal. Each beat is sub dived into four parts. So when you do 12 into 4 you will get 48 counts for one full avartan or cycle of vilambit ekthal. Beats number 3 and 7 are the khali, 5th beat is 2nd thali, 9th beat is third thali, and 11th beat is the fourth thali in ekthal, beats number 4 and 10 are thirakit This is how I am being taught in the US. To memorize the important parts of any taal so that doing visthaar will be easy.
