Omg! My garbage disposal has been leaking for weeks. I've been catching water with a plastic tub for weeks. Saw this video and no more leak. Thank you so much!
Glad I saw this! Just changed mine out the other day and used the little wrench it came with to tighten it and still had that finger gap. Just tightened it down with the channel locks!
you save my day bro I been having leaks from the top of the disposal and I was just about to buy a new one and I tried what you did on the video and worked thanks you
Thank you man my parents wanted to call a plumber cause it was leaking I’m no plumber but I do remodeling and I knew of this think called CZcams and I came across you. Your definitely gettin a sub some me thank you man !!
The small gap is left so that you can easily fit an allen wrench or screwdriver in to unscrew and remove the garbage disposal when it goes bad. By unnecessarily doing what is shown in this video, it will be a complete pain to remove the garbage disposal.
It is important to tighten it all the ways against the other piece like the guy says on the video , I’m in VA and inspectors will fail you on that if it’s not tightened all the way , apparently it’s against code to leave the gap .
All you need to do is use the Allen key and snug up on it is perfectly okay. Never had one coming loose on me when she snuck it up. Probably the person who installed it did not tighten it up tight enough in the first place if that happened
Sorry, but no. I talked to a plumber from a very reputable plumbing contractor in the Boston, Massachusetts area and he said no channel locks. Use the Allen Wrench and a screwdriver.
@That Fix It Guy for a "that fix it guy" this is a bad video, wrong tool. The disposal comes with an allen key, used to clear jams and tighten connections up.
Thank you. I had a leak from the top of the garbage disposal and tightened the gap and it stopped. This video was a HUGE help!

12:15 in the morning, this saved my ass, great info and a start for something else. 👍
Very helpful comment indeed, this was exactly the reason for the leakage.
I believe that's going to solve the problem I'm working on right now..
Thank you so much
You help me a lot
Great advice brother. Thanks for sharing
You bet Steve! Hope it helps some people.

I hate to think how big of a mess that would caused if the disposal became detached! Thanks Brian and thumbs UP!!
I’ve a few bad situations from this! Thank you Richard.
Thank you I watched your video on replacing these and did it myself! Oh and I made sure it was locked like this video says.

That’s my situation now. Can’t get the SOB off!
You must like doing things wrong. If you can't take a screwdriver and remove the disposal then you have no business installing anything!😂👉🤡

No… specs are to tighten it just like in the video. Had a disposal leak and fall off because it wasn’t tightened all the way.
Thanks so much. I would have had no clue I needed to turn that. How often should I check it?
Yeah great tip😊 thanks

Thanks for the tip Brian! Will give mine a check today!
I hope yours is good. Would be bad if it is not done since I was the one to install it.
@@ThatFixItGuy Thanks for the tips Brian Gardner! Channel locks (big blue) did the trick!

Your welcome. Yeah I have seen this cause some issues.
How do I put on a strain clamp on the garage disposal
Yep! That's what my problem was.
Is that a Grenada
Too late! About a week too late! But, now I know.
You sound like Joe Rogan

You could do that, but this is easier and actually in one manufacturers instructions. I like doing way the manufacturer says.

The point is to close the gap so it’s tightened to specs.
3 hrs late… 2 hr project ensued due to old plumbing haha
Well, now I know.
There's a tool for that...
is there really? send me a link.
@That Fix It Guy your kidding right??? The allen key that comes with the disposal....
Or use your hands
I wish I had those kinda mits! That’s gorilla grip!

not tru. you sell lies just for 'content'
False. You had not done a lot of disposals. This issue has caused lots of damage.
