I switched from 150 AMP AGM batteries to two 200 AMP Lifpo4 from Liontron. The costs added up to 5k USD… but never regretted. I can stay out over the weekend, run two small fridges, listen to music, setting anchor lights for two nights, use the water and other lights on my 29 Bavaria Sport. All this without switching on the engines for a minute. The quality time on the water increase’s and the batteries last for 10 years for an average boater with 35 days on the lake. Do the math … it’s definitely worth it.

That is incredible! That is a prime example of how lithium batteries are absolute game changers. How often would you have needed to charge the AGM batteries on that same trip?

@@BoatOutfitters at least 3x…. Or many hours of running the engines, usually I left the dock Friday at 4pm, stayed out overnight and had to go back to the dock by 11am, just using the anchor light, very limited waterpumps, no radio (using a JBL with its own batteries), two fridges run during those 19 hours and switching off all the unnecessary stuff like underwater lights and the Raymarine 7’ MFD. The state of charge by 11am was 50% (which is the max you can use with AGM, otherwise they break). So I had basically 75 amps to be used. Now with the 2x200 amp lifpo4 I can use effectively 400 amps as they have effective 440 amps… the only disadvantage is the price and the fact that you cannot run bowthruster or as starter engine for my twin 225 hp volvo gas engines. I.e. you need two starter batteries and one for the bowthruster which removes the weight advantage. Bottom line: worth it, but you need space for this kind of setup. The costs are not bad given the long livespan.

WOW! That is a better improvement over the AGM's than I expected to hear on this. The cost is definitely a barrier, but to be able to get 3x the run time, save on fuel, and keep hours off the engines/generator(if you have one) shows how quickly the impact of the lithium batteries is felt!
