  • What is Hell, who goes there, and why?
    A great sermon from Dr. Curtis Hutson (1934 - 1995) I cleaned up the audio on and mirrored. This sermon in particular was preached at Metro Baptist Church in 1992.
    Dr. Curtis Hutson (1934 - 1995) was an Independent Fundamental Baptist pastor who dedicated his life to soul winning and hard Bible preaching. He took strong stances and fought hard over issues such as salvation by grace through faith, eternal security, the inspiration of the Bible, and the virgin birth of Christ. Curtis Hutson won thousands of people to Christ over his lifetime, and was a great example of what it looks like to never back down or compromise on what he called the "Fundamentals of the Faith". No doubt Pastor Hutson is in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ. Someone shared this with me last night. I am born again, and believe that Jesus is the Lord of all creation, born of a virgin. He died for my sins and paid my sin debt in full. God raised Him on the third day and that He is alive and He is coming again very soon to take His church home to be with Him. I am washed and cleansed by His perfect blood sacrifice on the cross at Calvary. I sent this to my son who lives with my ex-husband, he is 43 years old, my ex is 71. Neither of them believe in God nor Christ but mock me and my eldest son for our belief and love for Jesus. I pray every night for Jesus to save their souls. Only HE knows what it will take to draw them to Himself, His will be done. This is one of my prayers each night.
    My heart goes out to my brethren who are likewise praying for their lost loved ones, I join with you in those prayers. Agape - Maranatha!

      @@2Chronicles714_ Grace is either free or it's through your good works. Which is it? You can't have it both ways. Either salvation is a free gift by grace or you have to earn it by your good works. You CANNOT mix the two. (Romans 11:6) Grace and works are at odds if we're talking about being saved. There is not even a little good work or promising God you are going to try the rest of your life to live a righteous life and not sin anymore. The Bible makes it so plain that salvation is "not of works, lest any man should boast" and that "But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; " (Titus 3:4-6)
      None of those men taught that you could live as you please after you're saved, but they did teach correctly that salvation is all by the grace of God through the finished work of Christ. Evidently, you do not believe that Jesus paid the full price for all of your sins on the cross as your perfect substitute, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. His blood atonement fully paid for every sin of your entire life. Works of righteousness and turning from sin should FOLLOW salvation but we still will never be perfect and how we live after salvation does not in any way keep us saved. Good works, or holy living should be the RESULT of the new birth, but in no way is that the CAUSE of it. Repentance is not promising God you will "turn from all your sins" or promising Him you will do your best to do better the rest of your life. That is mixing grace with works in direct opposition to what the Bible so plainly teaches. Salvation is a GIFT "through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

      Actually the Bible repeatedly says repent to be saved. Not asking Jesus into your heart. So we must repent of our sins to God and then trust in Jesus Christ and his atonement for our sins by his death on the cross and resurrection,

    • @WinningSideProductions
      @WinningSideProductions  Před 2 lety +3

      Repenting of your sins is works (Jonah 3:10 makes that clear), and salvation is not of work (Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:8-9). Actually the Bible never says "repent of your sins". What people get mixed up is many times it says "repent" which just means a change of mind or direction. In the case of salvation, a change of mind from whatever you were trusting in, to Christ. If "repent" just automatically means "of your sins", than God is a sinner - because no one "repents" more in the Bible than he did. Saying you must repent of your sins to be saved is no different than saying you must do good works to go to heaven - you're just phrasing it differently. And one more thing to note, you used the word "atonement", which is a great word to explain what Jesus did. However, "atonement" means he was the full (not partial) sacrifice. There is no payment left to be made. "Jesus paid it all". He didn't split salvation with us. If works are necessary, he, by definition, was not the atonement.

      @@proudrosemom Seems like God grants repentance unto life:
      Acts 11
      14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
      15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
      16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
      17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
      18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

      Well, he was careful to mention a child who realizes they are sinner. This is what Paul is saying in Romans 7:9-11 when he explains at what point someone becomes condemned. Without knowledge of "the law" (God's commandments), he was spiritually alive (as a young child). But when he understood the laws he had broken ("the commandment came"), he spiritually died. I believe that's the point at which a person becomes condemned. A baby or young child will go to heaven because they are not old enough to understand "the law"... However I've talked to many a 10, 11, etc. year olds that fully understand they are a sinner... That's the distinction he was making.

      @@WinningSideProductions I fully knew I was a sinner at the age of 4 when I set our house on fire accidentally on purpose! I'm not joking. That was the day that my conscience was awakened, and I firmly believe I began to know the difference between right and wrong that very day as soon as I saw the flames coming out of the laundry that I was tossing kitchen matches into. If I wasn't accountable for my sins that day I certainly was when I stole a Hershey's candy bar from a local grocery store when I was only 5 y/o. I got caught though and had to take it back. The so-called age of accountability differs from person to person, but when you really know you've done something wrong or your conscience is active, I believe at that point you can be saved and you will be held accountable for your sins. When I was about 9 or so a personal worker dropped the ball. I was under conviction in a vacation Bible school and went forward to be saved but was not dealt with carefully enough. I have no doubt I could have been saved on that day because the Spirit of God was drawing me to Christ. Fortunately, I did get saved when I was 20 years old, but I did a whole lot of bad stuff in those 10 or 11 years that might not have happened.

    • @randyd9805
      @randyd9805 Před 7 měsíci

      Just to be clear, what you said is false and not based on what the Bible teaches or on what Dr. Hutson believed either. I have known Dr. Hutson since the late 70's as well as his predecessor Dr. John R. Rice. To say "no child goes to hell" is simply a false statement not based whatsoever on the Bible. Jesus said, "And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein." (Mark 10:13-15)
      Little children who have come to what is normally called an "age of accountability" DO need to be saved or they CAN and WILL go to hell if they should die in that state. That age is different for all people. I truly believe I became accountable for my sins at the very young age of 4. I'd call me a CHILD at that age, wouldn't you? Many come to the age where they know right from wrong later, but for me it was 4 that I began to consciously know right from wrong. I only say this because little children who know right from wrong need to be taught the gospel and learn how to trust the Lord Jesus for salvation. They need to understand they've sinned against God and that the Lord Jesus, God's sinless and perfect Son, died for those sins on the cross for them. You know, the same thing an adult needs to know to get saved.

On the other hand, if someone decides they know better than God, they don't deserve Hell because it sounds too unpleasant to them (as if something being unpleasant makes it any less likely to be true), they are still guilty either way and will end up going without God's pardon.
