    Excellent review,greetings from Greece.Just ordered this dash cam set,hopefully in order to catch one particular neighbor who scratces my car for no reason at all.Wanted to ask you when in parking surveilance mode,you get video by both cameras or just the front one?Thanks in advance...

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! This particularly dash cam cannot use a rear camera. More recent models, such as the 70mai Pro Plus+ and the 70mai A800 can use a rear camera. Yes, with emergency events and parking events the video records back and front.
      One thing that people complain about is that the parking sensor isn't very sensitive. It's possible that if someone was deliberately trying to damage your car the G-sensor wouldn't detect any impact and wouldn't trigger an event. There is a sensitivity setting, which you probably need to set to high for parking surveillance. I hope you catch him!

    Thankyou Phil UK for talking on this particular feature.

    Actually shuting doors is strong enough to trigger it.

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 4 lety +3

      The sensitivity can be changed between 'high' and 'low' and there are two sensitivity settings - one for normal driving and one for parking surveillance.
      For normal driving I find that the 'high' setting is too sensitive and just driving over some rumble strips can cause a false event. For normal driving I have it set to 'low'.
      I don't really use parking surveillance, but when I do I have it set to 'high' so that it is more sensitive. On the 'high' setting an event is triggered when you close a door. Whenever I return to the car with parking surveillance on the dash cam always tells me there has been a parking incident. This is because when I open and close the door to get in it triggers an incident. If you have it set to 'low' and open and close doors very gently it may not trigger an incident.
      Thanks for your comment!

      It wasn't fantastic and 70mai were never really interested in releasing firmware upgrades to make the Pro better. However, they seem to have done a better job with the A500 model. I haven't got one yet, but it has time lapse that you can use in parking surveillance mode so you can see what happens before a parking incident. It's not as good as having a motion sensor, but it's an improvement.

    Hi thanks for the thorough explanation. I have a question, if I park my car for about 10 hours, with low sensitivity, will the batery last for that 10 hours, and will it be able to get video of people putting stuff on my car instead of big collision?

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 4 lety +4

      I haven't carried out exhaustive testing, but it should be OK. When it is just monitoring it uses very little power. Each incident will record a 1 minute video and I've read that the internal 500 mAh battery should be good for 10-15 one minute videos. Regarding your other question, it will depend on how much force people use when putting things on you car. If they do it gently it probably won't trigger the G sensor, but if they slam something down it probably will. It will also depend on the sensitivity setting. Bear in mind that as the battery ages and especially if it is used in hot conditions the capacity will reduce.

      Thanks for your comment. You need to use your mobile phone as a staging device and do it via the 70mai app, which I assume you have downloaded already. Connect your phone to the Internet, go into the play store and find the 70mai app. If an update is available, you will see options to Uninstall or Update. (Strangely, as I was typing this comment I got a msg on my phone saying that a 70mai update was available!) Press Update. The app version I have just downloaded is V1.4.1. Prior to doing this update, I was on V1.4.0.
      Now take your phone to your dash cam. Turn on the dash cam Wi-Fi hotspot. To do this, press the button on the right and Wi-Fi hotspot is the first option. On your phone go into network settings and connect Wi-Fi to the dash cam hotspot. Open the 70mai app and choose the option to connect the app to your device.
      If a new firmware version is available it will tell you so and give you instructions how to push the update to the dash cam. Not every app update contains a new firmware version. The one I just downloaded didn't and I am still on firmware version 1.0.6na. Someone told me that 1.0.7na was available and I thought it would be included in this latest app update, but I am not seeing the msg telling me that new firmware is available.
      I hope this helps.

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 4 lety

      There's no motion sensor so it can't detect movement. It has an accelerometer that detects impact. There is a delay when it goes into parking mode so that closing the doors doesn't record an incident. However, when you return to the car and open and close doors it records a parking incident.

Its cost me over £1000 over the years getting these all fixed up & whenever you go to get the CCTV footage from the car park. the camera is facing the wrong way so i need a camera which will record front & back when im not in the car but the recording will have to be either a timelapse at 1fps or based on detection. Parking surveillance works on the A800, but it doesn't record footage from the rear camera for parking and emergency incidents. They also omitted voice control with the A800, which is incredibly useful. They could improve functionality enormously with firmware updates, but my experience with the 70mai Pro is that they aren't interested. All they seem to be interested in is releasing and selling new products. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you are pleased. I'm still using the Pro and my wife still has the A800. Weird, how such an impact did not trigger it, or was it somebody INCREDIBLY stupid, doing this damage by gently, and slowly crushing my car with his ? so it would then make sense why G sensor didn't trigger.
      By the way guys, hitting your window is a big no no for testing, as you test just the G-sensor is working, not if actual accident will be recorded.

      It's really a personal choice. I do all of my video editing at 1280x720 so this is what I have set on the dash cam. 1920x1080 is bigger than I usually work with so it's unnecessary for me. The only advantage I can see with a higher resolution is being able to read license plates at a greater distance. The highest resolutions are only available with H.265 (2592x1944, 2560x1440, 1920x1080), but none of my software can handle H.265 so I use H.264. When a parking incident occurs the camera records a single clip. The clip length depends on the setting you have chosen - 1, 2 or 3 minutes. It will continue doing this whenever it detects a parking incident. When the card is full, it will start to overwrite old clips. This, of course, depends how big the memory card and what resolution you have chosen. Larger resolutions make bigger files.

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 4 lety +2

      It's really good. I use a suction cup for my GPS and it falls off periodically. I thought the same would happen with the dash cam, especially with so much sun, but no problems. The adhesive they provide is immensely strong. If you stuck it straight on the windscreen you probably couldn't get it off. To solve this they give you an electrostatic sticker. You attach the sticker electrostatically to the windscreen and then use the adhesive to stick the dash cam to the sticker, not directly to the windscreen. I installed it in April and now, 7 months later, there haven't been any problems at all. If I need to get it off, theoretically it should be fairly simple to remove the electrostatic sticker. So don't worry, it's a very effective way of attaching the dash cam.

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 4 lety

      I don't think so. There are a couple of problems with this. Firstly, prior to firmware version 1.0.6na, files were only one minute long. After this firmware update you get the option of 1, 2 or 3 minute long files. There's nothing stopping you from stitching all the files together using a video editor to make one long video, but it will take a while. Your second problem is the memory card capacity. 70mai say that 64GB is the largest card size, although some people say they have used 128GB successfully. I use a 32GB card and it starts to overwrite after about 3 hours. Of course, memory card capacity depends on the resolution and codec that you select, but 9-10 hours with any combination is probably doubtful.

      2. There are two sensitivity settings in parking surveillance mode. If it's on the high setting it senses a door being closed every time. If it's on the low setting and you close the door gently it may not sense anything.

    Is it possible for the camera to detect when someone is scratching your car ?

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 4 lety

      There are two issues. Firstly, in parking surveillance mode a parking incident is triggered by movement - normally a collision. If the vandal scratches your car very gently it won't trigger an incident. Secondly, the camera will only record what it is pointing at. If the vandal causes enough movement to trigger an incident and scratches your bonnet (hood) it will be recorded. However, if he is gentle and/or runs a key along the side of your car it won't be recorded. It's theoretically possible that someone scratching your car can be detected, but I think that in real use it is quite unlikely.

      A few people have suggested this and it seems like a good idea. One at the back would be useful for rear end collisions and it would also be good for parking surveillance. ADA$ wouldn't work because it assumes the camera is front facing, but that's not a problem. Just don't bother with a GPS module for the rear camera. I'm not sure how much current is drawn by the cam, but not a lot and two cams on one circuit should be OK. I bought a pair of 12V sockets and wired them into the auxiliary circuit. I only use one, but it would be perfect for 2 cams.

      @@swathom99 I'm no expert on car electrics, but I'll try to help. Firstly, switched or not-switched with the ignition is up to you. A non-switched circuit will give you car battery power when the vehicle is parked for extended parking surveillance, but you need to remember to manually switch the cam on and off each time. It's easy to forget - I forget all the time. I use a non-switched circuit which has power all the time, but I also wired in a rocker switch to turn the cam on and off. If the cam is on a switched circuit the cam goes on and off automatically when you drive the car and you don't need to remember to turn it on and off. There are pros and cons with both methods.
      The voltage is the same on all circuits. It is the current that changes. I understand that a 2 Amp fuse is recommended for dash cams, but they actually draw less than an Amp. I don't use a separate fuse for my dash cam. I just hardwired it into the 12V auxiliary power supply, which has its own fuse. This is the same circuit the cam would use if you just plugged it straight in to the 12V socket, but I have wired in a separate socket exclusively for the dash cam so that the regular socket is still available for other devices. The additional socket I wired in is also located underneath the dash out of sight so it looks better with no wiring visible.
      Professional installers may disagree with what I have done, but it works fine and I don't believe there are any problems with safety or reliability.

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 4 lety +2

      I have read that the internal battery is good for 10-15 minutes of actual recording time. While monitoring in parking mode without actually recording the camera shouldn't use much power. Each parking incident triggers a one minute video, therefore if there aren't many incidents the battery will last longer. If there are lots of incidents it won't last very long. How long exactly? I don't know - it's an impossible question to answer. If using parking mode for an extended period I would suggest using the car battery or another power source. Comments I've received suggest that some people are using power banks, with one person even using a solar cell to keep the battery charged. If you leave your car for a few hours the internal battery should be fine, but if you leave it in an airport car park for a couple of weeks it will probably be dead when you return.

When the 70mai Pro first appeared the promotion material showed a time lapse feature, but it didn't exist on the camera. Interesting to hear that they have now added it.
      One of the criticisms of parking surveillance is that it doesn't record anything before a parking incident. It only starts recording when the G sensor is activated. With time lapse you should now be able to record footage all the time and not use too much battery power.

      I don't think I can help you, unfortunately. The message about connecting a wire, I believe, has to do with using a hardwire kit, but you already have a hardwire kit. Is it a 70mai hardwire kit? They changed the firmware a few years ago so that you couldn't use parking mode without a hardwire kit. Perhaps they coded it so that the camera only recognises a 70mai hardwire kit? I don't know. If you're not using a70mai hardwire kit, perhaps you could try using one?
      It's a common complaint that the G-sensor isn't very sensitive. When I was doing my own testing, I had to slam the door very hard in order to trigger a parking event. I think you're referring to parking surveillance with the engine turned off. You therefore need to enable parking surveillance and to do this with the latest firmware you need to have a hardwire kit installed. Have you done this? There's also another problem with the G-sensor not being very sensitive and when you rock the car or slam the door it doesn't always trigger a parking event.

Sometimes I really slammed the door and it still didn't detect anything. If it works when you tap the camera it seems that the G sensor is working, but it isn't sensitive enough to detect a parking incident. If you have already changed the sensitivity setting there's not much else you can do 🥺
      The camera in my wife's car has the opposite problem. The G sensor kept recording emergency videos for a collision every time she went over a bump. I had to put the setting on low sensitivity to stop this. The G sensor is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough.

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 3 lety +1

      Possibly, but there are two issues. Firstly, a video is activated when the G sensor detects motion. If someone scratches your car with light pressure this won't be enough to trigger a video. Secondly, the camera faces forward so someone scratching the side of your car won't be recorded. If someone is really heavy-handed and vandalises the front of your car there's a good chance they will be recorded, but people could do a lot of damage elsewhere on the car and not be recorded.

    Does the parkings mode record every single minute?

    Could anyone explain? Thnx

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 2 lety +1

      The camera contains an accelerometer (G-sensor) which detects physical motion, not movement of something within the field of view of the camera. The kind of motion that is caused by another car hitting your car and making an impact. There are two sensitivity settings - high and low. On low it shouldn't do anything for small impacts, but on high it should trigger for a small impact. When it triggers it will record a video and the duration of the video will depend on what setting you have chosen in the camera - 1, 2 or 3 minutes. So, no it doesn't record every single minute. It just records a 1, 2 or 3 minute video after the camera detects an impact.
      From comments I have received a lot of people aren't satisfied with this. One problem is that it doesn't detect movement without impact and another is that it doesn't record anything before the impact so you don't see what led up to the impact. Additionally, it will only record what happens in front of the car where the camera is pointing. Some later 70mai cameras can also accept a rear camera, which is better, but if someone crashes a car or shopping trolley into the side of your car you won't see anything, even if you have two cameras.

WiFi won't connect unless I remotely turn car on and camera boots up, then and then only can I connect via WiFi from the inside of of my house being 10 feet away.
    Do you know why it won't connect via WiFi even though I have this camera hard wired with constant power on?
    Also When I go in reverse the Camera seems to see injects moving forward and says movent detected on car ahead, which makes no sense as I am going in reverse 😳 Seems this Camera still has bugs in it?

    Camera now had an update and front camera can now record in 4k with rear camera at 1080p before update, front camera can only record in 2k and rear in 1080p , So I guess that's a start.
    Now the WiFi not connecting while I am only 10 feet away from inside of my house where car is parked is a deal breaker for me, I shouldn't have to power on Camera with ignition of car just to connect via WiFi of Camera , that is a deal breaker for me as I bought this to catch all the dings and dents I am getting from neighbors hitting my car while parking their cars parallel to mine. You mentioned 4k and a rear camera so you must have the new 70mai A800 camera. It has new features, but the basics seem to be the same as the 70mai Pro.
      What I think is happening is that when you turn off the ignition the cam goes into parking surveillance mode. Even though you have the hard wire kit, the camera goes into a kind of sleep mode to preserve battery power and it will only turn on if the accelerometer detects a collision, at which time it will turn on and record a parking incident video.
      In this parking surveillance mode the Wi-Fi hotspot isn't turned on. As you say, if you start the car it turns on the camera and then you can then use the Wi-Fi. If you want to use the Wi-Fi all the time you will need to leave the cam on, but over an extended period this could drain your battery. Bear in mind that the Wi-Fi hotspot doesn't have a great range. I'm not sure what the range is, but I only ever use it while I am sitting in the car.
      From what you describe, I think it is working as designed. I also believe it is correct that the rear camera has a lower resolution.

    I don't speak much English. How many seconds does it record if another car hits our car?
    What does 20,30,40,50 minutes mean?
    Also is the collusion sensitivity?
    When we use the "Take Video" voice command, it records how many minutes of video. How can we stop recording after the voice command?

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 4 lety

      With the latest version of firmware you can choose video lengths of 1, 2 or 3 minutes. If there is a collision, or if you use the voice command "Record video" you get an extra 30 seconds. These events are classed as emergency videos and go into a separate folder.
      Example: If you choose a 1 minute video length and the video is at 59 seconds when you start an emergency video the total video length will be 1:29. You don't need to stop the recording, it will stop automatically after 30 seconds.
      There are three settings for collision sensitivity - high, low, disable. High is very sensitive and just driving over some rumble strips is enough to set off an emergency video so now I have mine on the low setting. This should record an emergency video in the event of a real collision, but shouldn't be sensitive enough to record false collisions.
      Regarding 20, 30, 40 or 50 minutes, this is a bit controversial at the moment. I understood this to mean that parking surveillance becomes active 20, 30, 40 or 50 minutes after you switch off the camera. However, I have received some comments that I am wrong and that it starts immediately.
      I have just started doing some testing and I don't think I am wrong. When I get time I will do some more extensive testing and will probably make another video to clarify this issue. Hopefully, this will be fairly soon.

    hello, well actually my 70 MAI A*))S works great, even in the parking mode..both rear and front works great...the only thing that you must do is to connect the main front camera connection to the fuse box and not to the cigarette lighter port...it should be on the fuse box. there and there both front and rear will work properly..it wont drain your battery at all. i have been having the 70MAI -A800S for more than a year already and still works perfectly. even in an accident...specially the rear...it works both ends... but if your 70 MAI is connected to the cigarette car port..then that will not work both front and back it will only be activated when you start the car but when your n a parking mode..it will not work

    @ 5:49 i don't get the parking surveillance part. does it need to be activated in settings every time you park? it's not automatic when car engine turns off and internal battery takes over and cam starts monitoring? am i missing something here? i'm looking into mini without display. would be retarded to go into phone app every time i want to park. also what's the deal with 20 min minimum time? what if i park somewhere and car gets hit within 1-19 min? that's just stupid. i have garmin mini that i simply plug into a power bank which is good over night. i plan to mount 70mai mini in back. no way i'm fking around with my phone and app every time i want to monitor parking.

    • @PhilUKNet
      @PhilUKNet  Před 3 lety

      You don't need to set it every time. Once you enable parking surveillance it enters surveillance mode every time you turn the camera off without needing to go into the app. Instead of the cam being turned off completely the accelerometer (G sensor) remains active. If someone hits your car it detects motion and records a parking event. If you have the cam connected to an outlet that isn't live with the ignition off it uses the internal battery, but you only have a limited time. If you want to use parking surveillance regularly it is better to use a hardwire kit or connect to an outlet that is live all the time. The 20 minute thing has caused a lot of controversy with some people saying I am wrong. I did a test a few years ago and I don't think I am wrong. The manual is very vague, but my assumption is that a delay prevents false events when you are closing the car. However, it doesn't need to be 20 minutes. My conclusion with the 70mai that it's a good, reliable basic dash cam at a reasonable price. Mine has never gone wrong in 18 months and the image quality is good. I like the file structure and I also like the voice control. I don't use either ADAS or parking surveillance as I think these features are of very limited value. If these things are important to you there are other cams that appear to be better. The ultimate system appears to be the Tesla sentry system, but buying a Tesla is expensive!
