Found the Banachek "This and That" routine on his Penguin Live Lecture. The John Bannon "future" routine is called "Ion Man" and is on the first "Move Zero" video.
I always carry 2 decks; generally Red Bikes, sometimes one of each color, the red always being (these days) the Penguin Marked deck, old guy eyes.... You're right, I've never been caught regardless of lighting etc. (how many of us really perform for magicians) a shoelace, goes with my ACR :-) and recently Optix (long story goes with that one). A sharpie and a few coins. Really enjoying the long(er) format.

I always carry a thumb tip and 6" red silk in my jeans pockets out of habit but most of the time I forget they're there. They've been through the wash so many times that I could bill myself as The Man with the Cleanest Thumb Tip in Magic, lol. But I've also jumped on the mentalism bandwagon so I tend not to do much magic these days. I've just mastered my first mem-deck (Mnemonica), so now all I really need is a pack of NOCs (or other marked deck) to be able to do a couple of impossible memory demonstrations. I also use my Stealth Assassin as my regular wallet, so with a blank business card and a thumb-writer, I can throw in a PIN or serial-number prediction. Add to that a drawing-duplication system like AB See, one of several Sven Pad products, or Psypher, and I've _easily_ got a 15-minute mentalism routine, maybe twice that long if I'm using Sven Pad Deluxe (which I highly recommend). For negligible extra pocket space I can also bring four poker chips so that I can do Docc Hilford's wonderful Junky (I prefer to call it Psychic Poker), which has the advantages of allowing spectators to shuffle and cut as much as they'd like, as well as of being infinitely repeatable (it's also a great one to break out in general if/when anyone does the annoying "Why don't you let me shuffle the cards?" after an effect; shuts 'em up fast).
So, my absolute bare minimum would be: 1) NOCs (in Mnemonica order), 2) AB See or Sven or Psypher, and 3) Stealth Assassin/thumb-writer. If it's jacket weather, then I can add a duplicate deck of NOCs set up to do something like the Bannon Triumph or a Gilbreath-principle effect. I'd also throw in Sven Pad Deluxe, and what the hell, Psypher too, why not, lol (if you've got lots of pockets, use them!). If it's knapsack/full-kit, I'd also throw in a pack of tarot cards so I could do Luke Jermay's Tarot Psychometry, another brilliant and devilishly clever effect that's foolproof, easy to learn, and always blows minds. Sven Pad's Celebrity Presage book test is also an easy knapsack carry. All in all, that's a lot of mentalism and magic for, worst-case, two regular decks, one tarot deck, a notepad, a small paperback book, a couple of blank biz cards, a thumb-writer, and four poker chips. Alternatives to some/all of the above would include my all-time favorite, Lennart Green's Stolen Cards, Paul Harris's Son of Stunner (impossible prediction + triumph + color-changing deck), as well as the always-reliable Invisible Deck, still capable of knocking 'em dead after all these years.

What the spectator sees ( what they don't know)
Two decks of cards (I gimmicked and 1 not)
Sharpie
Rubberbands
Coins (either scotch and soda or 4 morgan dollars)
A folded bill (and a quad bill)
(Then in my back pocket I have a Jumbo coin and an omni deck)
I can do individual visual stuff or longer routines stuff. I need to add a packet trick. I also try to have two routines for each thing. One for standing and one for sitting.

Great topic David. My EDC consists usually of just my phone and wallet as I prefer to perform with items i can borrow or use around me. I do, however, keep my “back up” tools in my vehicle if I ever need to pull out the heavy artillery in a certain setting. These include a deck of cards, ring, a metal bender and a harmonica.

Good one! I like how you said the items should be independent. Right now my EDC is blue bike elite with an indifferent red card for Chicago opener and mavens bwave tucked in the cellophane. Sometimes I pack the peek wallet from Pete Turner's set. Thanks Dave! That $100 key is a good touch🤓👍

I have had the Penrose Pendant for a long time, wear it so often that the silver finish is starting to rub off into a copper tone; weird but it's still a great everyday necklace and trick! Love it!

Love this video. I do most of my magic for me these days so this is a great way to see how to link a few things together that are easy to carry and allow me to show things to friends and coworkers. Would love to see a series like this where each EDC was dedicated to a genre. Also, I know youve touched on this in another video but not just the tricks but the things you carry them in. Penguin has a Jerrry O'Connel Packet trick wallet that I wold love to see reviewed as an example.
Right now, everything I carry is just "in pockets" I wanted to get the bag seen in the thumbnail, but it's sold out

This always a great topic. My EDC doesn't look like I'm carrying magic. For example, no decks of cards. My EDC has copper/silver keys that I can do a ton of stuff with, including mentalism (one represents yes and the other no). I also do magic with a key and a ring. In my wallet I have a packet trick I developed and some mentalism. I think mentalism is great for impromptu because it can be part of a conversation. In my cell phone pouch I have a torn and restored rose petal/heart and a few rubber bands.

I carry a Morgan super triple coin and a duplicate religiously. I get lots of material out of that alone. And then I keep some flat packing stuff in my regular wallet:
-4 Queens for an equivoque "Kolossal Killer"
-A 3 credit card multiple out prediction using my real credit cards
-A couple of double backed $1s and a couple matching serial $1s for a $4 Triumph and/or bill to impossible location
-3 store receipts set up for a Marc Paul "Summing Up" routine
-"Ice Wallet" peek gimmick
-My "Pick Six" lottery ticket prediction (NY LOTTO)
I also carry a small notebook and a 2mm lead pencil that matches my Swami gimmick, for when I carry that.
I also have Marc Paul's AAA Book Test on my mind when I'm around a book shelf (big Marc Paul fan).
I rarely carry cards, but when I do, they are usually plastic Copags and they start in my stack and index, ready for a handful of miracles! Also have a few impromptu, found-item things that I do when opportunity arrises.

Great thoughts. Good recommendations. I carry a marked deck too. My favorite routine is to tell the spectator that he/she can be the magician by reading my mind and taking out of the deck my thought-of card. Also an easy carry is “Dream Queens” (I think it might go as a couple of other names and it might be the one you said you used to carry). It’s a short story ending up asking what the spectator’s favorite Queen is. Then you open an envelope and spread four cards. The Queen that was chosen is face is the only face up card and when turned over it is a different color back than the other three cards. This trick is pretty standard as part of any Gaff Deck. It might be the same thing as “Colorful Kings”.

For me personally I think when I am watching magic reviews I want to see someone who has purchased the product and what it looks like when they do it. This gives me a realistic sense of how it might really look from someone who has purchased the product. I think we in the community can be very forgiving on the quality for the benefit of real world performance. Again thanks so much for what you contribute to the magic community. I appreciate it.
I always like to carry around one of my packet trick wallets where I keep 4 aces for a nice little transposition effect, buzz kill by John bannon, I’ll have a couple Fuzion gimmicks prepared by Blake Vogt, and a couple half dollars that all fits in the wallet. Then I just bring a deck of cards and sometimes a couple blank cards to perform voodoo by Chris Ramsay, and I wear a ring to do some ring tricks.
It’s nice because it’s only a wallet and a deck of cards as far as space is concerned but I have several different things to do depending on who I’m performing for and what I think they would enjoy seeing.

I carry loads, but would never use more than one or two at any one time, in fact I'll more often than not refuse to perform at all, I just like to have options for when do choose to do something. Anyway, this is what I have in my EDC:
Deck of cards (in Mnemonica) in a steel (good for loading/ditching magnetic gimmicks) card clip (which has a reveal, I rarely use the reveal, but it's hand to have occasionally).
PK Ring
30/40 elastic bands on my wrist
KK set up in otherwise ungimmicked wallet
Loops in wallet
A couple of TT's
Business Cards (that double as billets)
Poker Chips
A packet trick wallet (with two or three packet tricks in, which specific tricks changes on a regular basis though)
Magnetic Bolt trick
A working squeaker
A non-working squeaker
A couple of 1.5" steel rings (for magic linking gag with PK ring)
Ungimmicked Wedding Ring
Die-Cipher
Sharpie in a Sherpa cover (ungimmicked, but has a rolled up four of clubs inside)
i like options to, but find I always carry more than I need
@@magicorthodoxy Indeed, but I think it's better to have something and not need it than want it and... Oh! Although my EDC seems like a lot, it all packs really small and doesn't get in the way when not being used.

Great EDC some of those I had no idea about. Color Kings is definitely on my to-buy list. I always carry to do voodoo, 4 rubber bands, mismade bill, Instagrab, DFB, and a tattoo effect.
mismade bill is always in my wallet - and 2 rubber bands for Crazy Man's Handcuffs
Mon-Key and Penrose Pendant are a couple of my EDCs … definitely worth the price and effort to get them 👍🏻👍🏻
Also the Nexus wallet is my choice
and the Honor Deck for a marked deck

Also, one of my favorite tricks at the moment is called Contraband by the Other Brothers. Its a download from Penguin. Now I know you dont like D.I.Y projects but this trick has been well worth it for me.

I think that you already answered my question about your favorite EDC when you mentioned a really good deck of marked cards. Right now I’m carrying AB-SEE , the omega deck and a marked Deck that matches my Omega deck

@@magicorthodoxy well I use the marked deck to add to the effect of my omega deck by keeping it hidden in my pocket while the spectator “picks” and remembers his card. When I begin the trick I put a small envelope with the same card that the spectator will pick. Once I put my Omega deck in my pocket and ask some questions to “try” and read their minds and say their card, I’ll then pull out the marked deck and get them to try and find their card again. When they can’t, I tell them to look in the envelope only to find the same card they picked from the omega deck. Idk. It always gets good reactions and then I have a regular marked deck to perform more tricks. So yeah I have 3 decks but my spectator only thinks that I have 2 decks one being AB-SEE and the “regular deck “. After watching this video I’m going to order a few effects and change things up a bit. I have a side job as a bouncer and I like to come across as a nice person rather than a big mean bouncer and let’s be honest….. drunk or buzzed people are awesome spectators

So very interesting Dave. Fantastic. As a Hobbyist, when I'm going out to dinner, etc-- I carry 2 decks of Red Bikes-- One Penguin Marked Deck (nobody has ever had a clue they were marked), and one red Bike gaffed deck of some sort. Also have a JOL Packet Trick Wallet with different cards etc-- and 5 Morgan Dollars so can perform Winged Silver and other Coin routines. Oh yes-- also have a Mental Die and Mon-Key on my keychain.. Great stuff Dave!!!!

Great stuff. I own some of these. You inspired me to start carrying them and perform to friends. I would also add HUMINT by Phill Smith. It includes and coin that you can use with WTR. It also has one of the best business card peeks and a great and funny routine.

My edc for magic is, the quiver card to wallet which I use as my real everyday wallet, I also carry wow money too (which fits nicely inside a deep pocket in the wallet), I carry smooth by Nicholas Lawrence (which imho is one of the best looking object through anything effects), I carry the advocate index by Daniel Madison (generally just a random deck), a red backed deck of bikes, a plain chapstick I use in lieu of the seer, and finally departure by Chris Smith. However on my phone I have tempus by Lloyd Barnes always ready to go as well. I occasionally have the regal ring chain on me, but most of the time don’t. If I’m leaving wearing a dress shirt, I will ALWAYS have the ultimate card control utility by Jeff Kaylor and Michael Ammar on me.

I really like to carry the business card version of cypher and then I recently incorporated Flame as a truth telling trick. I always carry a marked deck.

Yes I carry both Jeff prace tricks and Tornado. Also Dan harlens vortex and Mark masons double deception. Inside my edge wallet I always have revamp and extreme burn. Lol my pants have six pockets cuz people always expect to see something new

I'm rolling with triple helix right now that sets up and leads into card 2 pocket by the other bothers. In one pocket and I have this , that and the other packet trick in the bother pocket. And after I put the cards away and they wanna see one more as I am walking away I use calen morellis odyssey. Pretty great results so far.

I’m always carrying Toenado, but I also carry Misled, Pointless, and a spool for Gypsy Thread (for after I’ve built up a crowd). Not that crowds happen often, but there always the hope. My physical situation almost requires an audience before I perform, because I can’t stand up for long periods of time.

Marked Penguin decks for the win. Nowadays I do prefer using borrowed items when possible. E’Voque followed by Marc Paul’s AAA book test are a great one-two punch.

Right now my E.D.C is 2 random decks of cards, usually a bicycle deck(w/indifferent back) or a random Theory11 I have laying around, a sharpie and omni deck. Sometimes I'll pull out the 2nd deck after I vanish the whole deck 😂

My magic EDC is a ring, 4 Chinese coins on a pro-flite keyring and some blank business cards in my phone case. Sometimes I'll add Will to read, SUC v2 containing 10 Esp cards and a memdeck.

Nice list. I have a phone case from Mous it has a wallet option that attaches to the case with magnets so it can be taken off easily if you just want to carry the phone, but the wallet can carry several cards and bills. Nice addition to a regular wallet. Also, I make pens and I'd like to send you one. How can I get it to you ?

it just means your every day deck - the one you work with
I usually have on me Penguin's Marked Stripper Deck (same reader back, but a stripper deck) that I also use as a normal deck;
and/or a Non-marked Stripper deck to perform OoTW (since the spectator is required to look at the backs of the cards for a long time), and various other tricks;
Set of Loops to perform stuff like the haunted deck and simple levitations;
My personal wallet is RMW (Greg Wilson), so I just have it all the time.. I don't like the name, but the wallet itself is pretty nice;

I don't perform often but when I do I carry my business cards, a pen, a few loops and some coins for coin bending.i like the idea of borrowing objects when I perform so I'm really a low maintenance guy.

What you think Viper compare to Orphic / Shadow wallet?
I used to carry Showdown wallet, but its broke and too big for the new generation.
I want to get Viper but its out of stock for a long time.
Orphic is good, but my mind keep fight for should I put it into right front pocket or back pocket. (I need to adjust my pants before I sit if its in front pocket, but it will get bend over time if I put it into back pocket.)

nope - but it's discontinued a lot of places so they might be offering it as a download now
What do you think about the Peter Turner switch wallet? I have it and I don't think it's that great quality.

Best thing to carry around is rejoined express, you can just keep it in your normal wallet and it doesn't even look like a trick, just like your normal loyalty cards

My only carry David, ever since it's launch, is Digital Force Bag. A simple app on my phone with no internet required, a small photo of Ed Sheeran eating a pizza in my wallet, combining my celebs and shopping list ables me to force that, if you get my drift. Otherwise great topic.

I dont go anywhere without sponge balls. I have a small few tricks that dont require you to talk. I’ve used it in different countries and once to some kids who were hard of hearing.

Love this, David! Would love to see some top 10 or 5 of different categories like close-up, parlour, strolling, mentalism. I would also love to see your performance of Will to Read. I have it and have taken it back out on your suggestion. But I realize that there really isn't a full performance on the DVD. Mainly Steve performs the 'free will' part and Peter talks the 'All About Eve' mentalism part. But the DVD doesn't do a great job of pulling it all together. Is the wallet available separately from Peter's Kickstarter kit?

Should see the looks I get-- not because it's so big, or because it suspiciously looks like the one that came up missing from the Houdini museum.
