Between dealing with that, and the media being on his back worse than ever, he could've easily fell into a deep deep slump and not have managed to find him way out of it. Players have fallen off for far less... the biggest test of his mental fortitude of his career, and once again he came out on top 🐐
It wasn't just his kid passing. Second half of the 2021/2022 season his form was clearly already declining due to playing 270 minutes per week with no rest thanks to Greenwood, Martial and Cavani being unavailable for almost the entire season. Then his kid died and then he missed pre-season due to his daughter getting sick and hospitalized and missing pre-season at that age is like a death sentence which is why it took a while until he gets his form back alongside with all the problems going on in his personal life.
