I’m originally an “H” fan but I have to admit I like that higher tone crackling the “X” makes. I truly am torn between the two. The only solution is to buy two mustangs and put an “H” on one and a “X” on the other.😃
😂😂😂😂❤
My man! 💪
Lol I always say, if I can't pick one, gotta get both😏.
@@YoungBlood20101 I bought the first of those two in January. Haven't done the exhaust yet though. Doing the x first. 😁
Seen debating on getting an x pipe for mine rn have an H pipe and want to see what it sounds like paired with roush axleback
@@chrissanchez9218heaven that’s my setup
Personally, I like the sound of the H - pipe. That’s what I put on my ‘66.
H- pipe for me, had it and it WORKS
Just my opinion but coming from music school, I would describe the X pipe as high pitch and the H pipe as Mid Low. The X pipe reaches a high frequency and “pops” while the H pipe kinds of sits more in the mid frequencies and just gets deeper IMO.
To be honest, the cracking effect on the x pipe is sick, but I have to admit that the deep sound of the h pipe is crazy. Got 50 years to make my choice
Or not 😂
0:38 X 0:56 H Start up
0:44 X 1:04 H Revs
1:15 X 1:34 H Take off
1:53 X 2:00 H Drive by
X seems to sound better to me on the mod motors and I think h on the push rods seems right to me.
Great video, guys! Personally I’m an H-Pipe fan for the Coyote era. Regardless, it’s really helpful to have a real world comparison with a vehicle under load. Keep it up!!!
H-Pipe everyday of the week ... more classic muscle sound
I went with an X on my Mach 1...just personal preference. I look at the raspy 5.0 sound as a signature sound similar to the 2v 4.6 flowmaster setups. Love all Coyote setups though 😊
That's wasy setup on my 03 GT. BBK X people with flowmaster 44 mufflers. Sounded amazing!
The only thing done to my exhaust is Steeda H Pipe and I love it
Definitely the H, tone down that annoying Mod Motor Rasp Ford has saddled us with since 1996.
Haha, I agree.
If you have a raspy exhaust with an X pipe if because your mufflers are trashy 🤣 the H pipe sounds like farting in a toilet 🤣
Tell me you know nothing about exhaust in one moronic sentence or less.......
Mod motors and Coyotes, by their nature and design, have a raspy exhaust, that's just engineering. Borla, Corsa, MBRP, Magnaflow and any other number of "trashy mufflers" as you put it can't change that fact. H-Pipes tone it down a good bit.
My 97 gt had that annoying rasp even with the H pipe
Actually all mod motors sound good til they went coyote. Coyote makes the best power. But previous 3v and 2v sound so good
H-pipe. That’s what I have on my 12’GT. It’s a glorious sound.
H pipe for the win!!!
I tend to lean toward the X-pipe for the ‘15 to present because on these cars the two don’t sound much different. On ‘14 back, I prefer the H-pipe being these cars with the over axle exhaust give them a rich deep sound (old school muscle car). However, I have a Bassani exhaust for my ‘15 GT and their design I’d call a cross between the two. It still has a bit of the crackle but, a deeper sound than true X-pipes do.
X pipe with resonator delete and rear muffler delete will sound like a beast
On the '11-'14 5.0 S197, the stock H sounds awsome
H Pipe for sure 👍
The H suits the car better
I have X pipe resonator delete, borla exhaust S type modified a little my touch, my Pony sounds like a lyon roaring, people love it 🤠...
Maybe not pertinent to this car but my dad bought a 2.5” flowmaster setup with an Xpipe for a 69 mustang with a 302. Glad that’s the one I liked the sound better on, though at this point I would be happy with either.
X Pipe on Ford and H Pipe on LS
I think the h pipe on the 5.0 isn’t the move, just in the nature of a smaller displacement v8. On an LS platform I think H like would be the move
Age old argument at this point. I think the X makes it sound racier, but H sounds deeper/better in my humble opinion.
Not much of a difference, but In my *personal opinion* I’d say the H pipe 👍🏽
Just a side note, you're not suppose to use an impact wrench for the front flanges. Torque it down to 35lbs
Idk, I like H but then I like the X too. It’s hard to choose which one ima go with.
H hands down for me, I hate the raspy/tinny sound
100% agree
That tinny (hollow) sound is from the mufflers…
@@Texas_Road_Warrior the mid pipe exhaust waves make that sound in the mufflers, remove or change the mid pipe and sounds goes away even with the same muffler
H pipe sounds much deeper and better but no crackling sound during shifts. I want the crackling sound during my shifting, X pipe is the winner for me 😅
H Pipe for me. I have a Roush H Pipe fitted to my GT.
Me too, Timmo. Roush H pipe with Active Valve Exhaust. Best of both worlds, quiet on startup for my neighbours (great people) and awesome sound tearing around!
I have a Ford Performance Sport by Borla X-pipe + Exhaust. IMO Borla makes some of the best sounding exhausts on the market, that's what is going to really define the sound. I am constantly told that my car sounds more expensive than it actually is. (Don't worry, I know how expensive it isn't when I hear the creeks and rattles inside from all the hard plastic) That being said, I'd really like to hear an H-Pipe paired with it.
Full Borla S type catback with X pipe here. I get compliments all the time at stop lights
@@josephthornton3316 100% we have the same system then. Ford just wanted something to brand lol. I was able to get the gloss black tips though.
I got corsa 3 inch dbl x pipe and 100 series hi flow cats on my 2020 GT and it sounds nuts. Dbl X all the way.
That’s a fantastic video, thought I preferred the x but I’m thinking the h now.. both options still sound pretty dam good
Glad you liked it!
I like the deeper tone of the H
H better sound on an auto, X has a better sound on an manual, to me that is
100% H-pipe, mine will be getting that and borla axle back
x pipe gives it the classic Mustang sound everyone can recognize without even seeing it
The x pipe sounds so much better! Fits the coyote high revving higher pitch tone better. In my opinion the H pipe only makes it sound good at lower rpms. After that it just doesn’t cut it for me
Agree. I had an h pipe on mine. Sounded great on the low end, but wide open sounded horrible. Got a Borla Atak cat back with the x and couldn't be happier.
@@thedude2897 yup that borla atak with an x sounds really good! Cant beat it
@@thedude2897 its funny when people say “oh H pipe all day sounds like a classic muscle car” NO IT DOESNT, modern high revving mod motors sound nothing like a pushrod v8 not even close! Thats why the X pipe and a nice sounding set of mufflers, and of course “long tube headers make the coyote sound so good specially screaming at 7500+ rpms reminds me of the Australian Supercar racing series 😍
@@hialeahhigh I have a 05 3v with American racing longtubes headers a catless H-pipe and borla ataks mufflers and it sounds amazing
@@ThatLoud3v but a 3 valve tho nothing to do with a coyote
That smoke ring at 1:41 :D
H-Pipe all the way.
Hi there I like the X pipe sounds heaps better than the H pipe
H pipe clearly has a better sound. I want a mustang to me it's the best looking aesthetically..But it's so hard to keep a deep growl after the cold start.
My issue too. I love the cold start up sound!
With my longtube headers I’ve been considering switching my borla x pipe to an H pipe.. it’s just insanely raspy
I have the same issue. The problem is Borla do not offer H pipe.
Same issue here. I’m gonna go with a borla resonator and hope for the best
@@carlosgarcia9561They have a resonators H Pipe. It’s a ford performance by borla part.
@@carlosdeleon9593 I’ve been thinking of getting borla resonator mid pipe too honestly. I start my car up at 4:30 am every day and I feel terrible because the car is so loud and raspy even with the H pipe lol
@@5point0h67 Dont feel too bad. I had a Roush catback with my headers and it was so much louder than the FP Borla. I used to leave for work at 4am every day too lol.
Everyone says the x pipe is raspier but I went from h pipe to x pipe and noticed that not only did it quiet my exhaust much more but got rid of the rasp. Also in this video I felt the h pipe had more rasp as well as a choppier idle. Doesn't the x force the the gases to combine more consistently? Whereas the h pipe doesn't necessarily have much eveness to it... does the gas always travel through the h or does some of it continue to go straight down the pipe? Also was curious what would happen if you ran an x and h pipe in tandem? best of both worlds? When I took out my cars stock mid resonator (2010 benz e550 coupe) I noticed that it was basically two x pipes in a case with some perforations and probably some packing.
I don't know what it is but the Gen1 Coyote sounds way better than the Gen 2 & 3. Gen 2 & 3 sound too high pitched for my liking.
Drive a 10spd Gen 3. Lol I had a gen 1. The 3.... Just absolutely quick
I have a Gen 1 with an H-pipe and straight piped from there to the rear. Maybe I got lucky, but my exhaust note is glorious. It’s docile when idling and under 3k, after that she’s like a raped ape. Everyone says it sounds amazing. I’ll never change it out.
These videos are really informative, good job guys
Glad you guys make this
X Pipe gives more power and louder 💪
H Pipe has better sound and quieter ✅
H pipe sounds older fashioned. X sounds better in the higher rpm. It’s close
H pipe for me!
Great comparison video! Thanks
I like the idle of the H but the revs of the X 😅
X with 373 gearing, American racing headers with magnaflow
A screamer with that setup! 👌👌👍
Yup! Magnaflow! I have them on my '16 5.0 with x pipe.
The H pipe almost makes the motor sound like it’s being choked. X pipe sounds a lot more free flowing and healthy
Wayyyy too much rasp, you gotta keep resonators on and reduce the sound dampening of the muffler.
X- Pipe sounds better, but both sound way better than the POS resonator.
can you put header comparison on a 289/302 long tubes, shorty and 180?
Someone I work with has a h pipe and it’s sounds better then a x in person which is weird.
Well I don't know if I can keep watching you anymore because I don't own a Mustang anymore the ex-wife stole mine and sold it on me and now I don't have the money to go buy a new Mustang right now I own a 2013 F-150 four-wheel drive with the second gen coyote V8 in it and I'm doing things to it I'm going to make it into a truck Stang cuz I'm going to lower it down and put street tires on her and put a Mustang intake on her to give her more horsepower and at 85 MML throttle body and some catted headers on her also she's going to be a very sweet truck when I am done
I like the H Pipe. 👍
Why Nascar Gen4 sounds so good, X-PIPE
Corsa double helixx pipe
Sounds like a 90s gm truck that’s straight piped with the H pipe. X pipe sounds like a v8 Honda if they made one.
H pipe + dual glasspacks all the way
So is this with the muffler because I have cherry bomb thrush mufflers and I wanna deletes the resonator but kinda torn if it’s gonna make it toooooo loud for me in the cabin. I put killmat in there but still kinda loud any help on this?
A much better sound with the H pipe I think over the x-pipe I'm not Mustang so that maybe what I do on my truck
of all the exhaust cat backs for a s550, what would you guys said was the deepest with the lowest rasp
Deepest would probably be the Magnaflow but keep in mind deep comes with a tradeoff, usually more drone.
@@cjponyparts thanks
@@cjponyparts what do you guys have to say about the steeda cat back, it sounds pretty good and deep
Ive had all sorts on my s550. I think you’re looking for the Pypes Phantom H-Bomb cat back
Why was it smoking during the pull
H 💯
Buy both change each year lol.
I run open headers
H pipes for trucks, x pipes for the mustangs is how my brain thinks they should be lol
H pipe all the way, I prefer the deeper sound
Same
For me sound same I don’t really see the different I tried both doble X and doble H
what is better for a 66 289?
X sounds like there is an exhaust leak. H sounds tight.
H-Pipe all the way baby...
I'm considering getting either the Roush or Steeda H-Pipe. Which is better in terms of quality?
Just got the Steeda H. It’s so dope.
@@bnazzaro21 Where I live, the Steeda H-Pipe is a little bit cheaper than the Roush H-Pipe. Is there basically no difference in terms of quality?
@@samuelspontak2729 no difference at all. Both are 304 stainless. I would say if you’re planning on doing other Roush exhaust type mods then go with the Roush for things linking up easier. I have a convertible with active exhaust and the Steeda H and I can’t imagine adding anything more for sound. I was going to do a borla or corsa or roush but. Nope. Lol. It’s that good.
@@bnazzaro21 Thanks. I appreciate the help.
I wonder how an H vs X pipe would sound on like an Audi S4 🤔
Xpipe
X!
Both sound nice.. H pipe sounds like a truck. X pipe sounds like more raspy sport car
What’s with the blue smoke? 🙈
You might see a slight puff from the oil inside the pipe when you first install. Everything else was normal white from it being cold.
H !!!
H all the way!!
X Pior!
H fr
X sounds to muck like a ricer (and my weed-eater) to me. Going H.
H pipe sounds better.
H 😎
Bro. Rule number one of exhaust clips, never use an automatic for your sound clips. Come on now. Other than that, great video
H Pipe
Stock is better
H pipe
X
H pipe all day long
H pipe
H all day.
Lets end the debate here, there is a reason why Ford themselves slapped an X pipe on the glorious sounding voodoo gt350, and the newer predator 5.2’s in the gt500’s ✌️
comparing a flat plane to cross plank crankshaft? very different tune
@@alexxolo5742 the 5.2 is a cross plane crank and it sounds very y similar. Coyotes sounds very similar, not exactly the same but close.
Because they want to squeeze every single hp possible. Not because of sound
@@nozopoke1782 not because of sound? 🤦♂️ have you heard a gt350 with an H pipe? Sounds like a subaru with a dead cylinder. Trust me sound goes into the equation when designing those cars
