And the mass majority do not use checks, the cost of the machine and the network verses the volume of customers using them means they get rid of them.
I know older people do not use debit cards or carry credit cards with them. I am middle aged and do not have apple pay. I have never have never used anything apple
Debit cards are fine, but I have never used apps or paid with my phone. It's a trap waiting to be sprung. I am not sure what the trap will be, but I know apps are a trap. I refuse to use apps AT ALL.
I know plenty of older people who do use cards. Most places outside of certain big retailers quit taking checks a decade ago.

Yes, I still write checks. My dentist gives a discount if we pay with checks. As for Target, who cares? I've been boycotting them for years and years.
Well, I quit going there 15-20 years ago. They were allowing men into the ladies restrooms and other things. I quit going there and I've never looked back or regretted that choice!

I was at the health food store and their computer was down and they said cash. Only or paper check.

I accidently walked out at Walmart with rubbing alcohol ,marched right back in and paid for it,never wanted to get busted for stealing,but funny able to walk out the door without anyone noticing!!
I've done it by accident for stickers or a card and got all the way to the car and went back in to pay a soft drink too. I'm a Christian. It would bother me too much and offend my Lord to just take it.

People bounce checks a lot these days, and there's no way to see if the bank will accept them until the goods are gone. Everyone accepts debit, credit and cash.
Then why does my dentist give the biggest discount if we pay by check?
$8000.00 worth of goods must of been groceries probably one bags worth.

Personal cheques gone here in 10 years. Its all tap and pay in Australia. No one can refuse cash as its legal tender. Im old fashioned go to the bank get cash. Use road side stalls. Pay the old dog kennel lady cash. No ones business where I spend my money. Here in the big supermarkets they have registers where you scan and pay for your own shopping. I am annoying as i get someone to put it through old school. These things take jobs from our kids. 😢 peace and love

All of this is blowing my mind. I didn't know anyone still accepted checks, however my job still pays us with paper checks. Wild isn't it? Will Target accept cashing paper check ? I don't shop at Target,they are too expensive for me.
07/10/2024 Hello Mary.Looks like cash is on the way out. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. WE have boycotted Target and wal mart both. No one shops at either like they did before covid. People are using Dollar and small discount local stores. This has hurt the biggies. Cosco also. I shop at several dollar and similar stores. I also use smaller grocery stores.I still buy my canned meats at teh big stores and look for cheaper prices next time in the dollar and small stores. Small stores are great for canned tuna, spam, canned chicken and salmon and canned weenies. I also buy Spaghetti "O"s and dry pasta noodles and sauces in glass jars.Pickles and condiments and peanut butter and jelly also. I try to shop wisely at teh small stores and beat the poor service and checkout lines at the big boxes. Stay safe and cool. I see that that the temperatures are over 100 near you. Don
Be careful buying food at dollar stores. There is a lot from China. There is a way to tell if the cans and packages are from here or not. Look it up on youtube or Google. It's a color code or a certain number on the item

We haven't written cheques for a long time up here.
The cheque agreement form actually states that when you write that cheque, you guarantee funds covering it are ON Deposit in your ACCOUNT. A cheque is not yours to write your own loan.
It's crappy but that's how the banks think... so many people can't afford to eat. Some retirement ...❤❤

I've never been in a Target and don't plan on it! Not one within 100 miles of me anyway, only a Wal-Mart and I don't do that either! I ain't been in a Wal-Mart in 20 years! I shop local here in my small town in the mountains. No need for me to go anywhere else. I couldn't even begin to tell you what either one of those evil places have. My advice is, Shop your local Mom&Pop Stores because when everything else fails, they'll be the only ones to help you while the others are slamming the Doors in your Face! God Bless. 🙏🙏❤❤

Haven't used checks in quite a while. Possibly that they are getting software or machines that will not accept checks. Leave it to the Chinese not to make machines that will accept checks
Checks are only used for mail order or business payments here in the UK. I haven't written a check for years. Banks were wanting to get rid of them but it didn't happen as business pay each other still. I mainly pay in supermarkets chip where the microchip is placed on the supermarkets till reader

All of the comments posted here are the main reasons. I do not go anymore and will never go again if they were the last store on earth.
It’s a lot harder to deal with checks from a business point of view. Especially if they don’t use that electronic check processing. Money is also very difficult to deal with. The money is so dirty & easy for employees to steal. Cards are so much easier, you don’t have to count, do maths, touch it, it’s all computerized and easier to track & deposit. It’s so much easier for employees & businesses. Changing things to all digital will most likely cause crypto currency to be more accepted at stores.

Won’t be shopping there for sure. I like using checks. Checks do cost the more from the bank, you don’t get checks when you open an account. You don’t get return checks either. I refuse to use self check out, bag groceries or pt them in my car. I am disabled, in my 70’s, and cannot shop normally. My debit card is the same as my checking account, they are connected. This is stupid. I like checks, I order the kind with duplicate copies so I have a copy of every check I have written.

Restaurant or not, retail store or not, there is an argument against cash is king versus the credit/debit card payments. Card payments are adding more money per transaction while cash is king aka cash is liquid means discounting but quicker pay for all restaurant and all retail stores.

"Cumbersome" - I totally get it. I haven't written a check in probably 10 years. It's outdated. It also takes forever to write a check when you can swipe a debit card and be done in 5 seconds vs. probably 2 - 5 minutes for some (usually older and very slow) person to write a check. Nobody wants to wait in line behind that. I don't blame them. Also, a check can bounce. A debit card or credit card will not. The transaction either goes through immediately or it does not, vs. getting an "insufficient funds" notice 3 days later that you have to take care of. Good decision on their part, IMHO, to speed up checkout lines and avoid bad checks.

FALSE. My dentist is YOUNG, and he prefers payment by checks and even gives a hefty discount when paying with a check.

I paid my trash collector with a check and one other bill by check. I actually enjoyed writing checks. I also pay my son‘s life insurance with the check.
@@dmariewalker6880 I pay my internet service, trash service, electricity bill, and insurance with checks. They accept them just fine. Apparently, for businesses, the debit and credit card fees are high, or my dentist would not offer such a good discount with checks. When it comes to apps, something about them just doesn't sit well. I truly believe they are set up to trap people. They need to be reading the agreement very carefully. It probably describes what will be coming in the future with the use of apps. Plus, they are hackable. I hear of people getting hacked a lot because they try to do all their business with apps.
