  • Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring drummer Joe Farnsworth.
Joe has been one of the hardest working musicians on the jazz scene for well over 30 years. He's backed, toured, and recorded on over 100 records of legendary artists like Benny Golson, Jon Faddis, Jon Hendricks, Junior Cook, Billy Higgins, Cecil Payne, George Coleman, Harold Maburn, Cedar Walton, McCoy Tyner, and Pharaoh Sanders.
His current release "Time To Swing" features Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Barron, and Peter Washington.
The group One For All was founded by Joe in 1997 and featured some of Jazz musics leaders including Eric Alexander, Jim Rotundi, Steve Davis, David Hazeltine, and John Webber. The ensemble would go on to record 16 albums..
Recently Joe played the Cafe Bohemia in NYC and I sat down with him to talk about his music mentors Alan Dawson and Arthur Taylor, his role as a drummer, and reflect on the legendary Pharaoh Sanders.

Opened up with Bohemia after dark! Fitting! Heard shades of Coltrane's Love Supreme in the Altos phrasing! she was hip, never heard of her before! Big Josh Evans Fan though, that cat can play and should be more widely acknowledged!

Josh calling out Sarah for playing during his solo - attitude haha!

I’m not sure that’s what was happening though … I thought he was asking Bassist if he wanted to solo, but who knows maybe you are correct

I think she was playing the backing horn part for the tune, but I can't remember the name of the tune...

It’s All Blues by Miles Davis. Sarah’s playing the backing horn part. I’m guessing josh didn’t know the tune since he looks uncomfortable and didn’t understand what Sarah was doing.
