Maybe or maybe not. I think Joe is just as good and has balanced out the team. Ime I think would’ve stuck to the defensive principles and we would’ve burned out again before the finals. Hope Ime has a good career with the rockets.

Joe is a good coach but when the Celtics championship window is open now, it's not a good idea to put a rookie coach to lead the helm. Ime's experience as a rookie is incomparable with Joe as a rookie.

I wasn’t a Celtics fan but I liked Ime. So glad he has gotten another chance!
He was never going to stay in Boston after what happened, especially with how the Celtics organization handled it. They labeled it a suspension but in reality he was done for.

Well after what happened, I don't see what else Brad and Wick could've done but suspend him. They weren't the people who leaked it to the public, someone from media got a hold of the story from within the Celtics and blew it up. I doubt they ever wanted it to get so big but once it did they chose the best option. Suspending Udoka let the story quiet down for a while (can you imagine the outrage if they just outright fired him?) and let them regroup and come up with contingency plans on how to correctly part with him. The suspension also let them have the unique opportunity to test out Joe and see if he could earn the trust of the lockerroom. It seems to have worked, but this playoffs is the real test. So far it is working IMO. The Celtics did a long investigation into it so I also don't think we can stay they jumped to conclusions. I agree that a mistake like this damaged relations on both sides. He was always going to leave because how could he lead a team with this hanging over their heads. I also hope he does a good job in Houston and learns from his mistakes.
Coach I'm a spurs fan but I have respect for Houston and I know pop taught you well as a player and as an assistant coach I hope someday you bring 3rd championship to Houston

As a chicago native i rooted for the bulls up until last year post season, i expected brooklyn to beat them but after watching only a few games i was certain boston was going to the finals and started rooting for them. The whole team seemed connected as 1 and they had this toughness and certainty about them as a whole. This post season is the opposite i knew without ime their play style couldn’t be replicated, a huge move for Boston to let ime walk you could tell this team is disconnected and won’t get far this year

Well the trouble with that is that it sends a bad message to the rest of the organization. Like what if he does it again or something similar? Then what? Then you sweep that under the rug too? I have confidence in the team after last night. We can do this. Ime is not some golden god that was this perfect coach. He was great but his style also led to our burn out. Let’s see how this plays out this year before we start pointing the finger at coach or members of the team.

I think the Celtics should be lauded for making the very difficult but in my opinion the right decision in letting Udoka go. He put them in an untenable situation. Many teams may have swept it under the rug simply because of the results the year before. It probably would have been easy to do that.
Instead they stood on principle. Udoka may have been well liked and be a good coach but he still had to accept the consequences for his actions. He simply could not lead the Celtics anymore. He lost his authority and integrity.
Like many have said, he made a mistake, he apologized and is remorseful. I wish him well. (But not against the C's!)
PS I like Joe Mazzula. He took on a tremendous challenge and the team has been at the top of the NBA most of this year.

@@carissalemire9683 I think you are making a lot of assumptions there. The truth is that Ime and the person he was fooling around with put the entire Celtics organization in a really bad spot. Brad was really emotional about it and I don't blame him. Most of this story is never going to be known to the public. It is something that happened behind closed door. There is A LOT to this story, including the actual extent of Ime's mistakes alongside the mistakes of the person he was messing with, that the public will never know and SHOULD NEVER know because it's none of our damn business. Rumors are that what was leaked is just the tip of the iceberg of what actually happened. Don't know if this true or not, but we don't need to draw attention to this story anymore because it is a distraction to the team.
And the Celts did a through investigation into the problem from an independent law firm before coming to a decision. They didn't just panic. They suspended him as a matter of principle for 4 months before finally letting him go because Joe had earned his stripes and the trust of the locker room. How do any of us know they didn't punish the other party as well, I trust that they did but it was private and it should stay that way. This story was already overblown and didn't need more things to distract the team. Joe has done an AMAZING job and that can't be overstated. Look where we are now with a real chance to win the ring. In the end, I think it was the right move to part with Udoka whether he is successful in another organization or not because he had already lost the trust of the front office and Brad. I don't think it's really fair to anyone involved for us to speculate on this or that. What happened happened for a reason and both sides are moving on. We should too.
