Akan Faith - Dharmic tenets in Ancient African Philosophy (Karma, Dharma, Reincarnation, Afterlife)

  • The continent of Africa has been home to several ancient philosophies. We earlier saw the serer religion a complex and a rich philosophy that aligns itself well with the ancient Dharmic thoughts.
(see • Serer Religion. Ancien... )
The knowledge postulated the presence of an infinite god energy (called the brahman, the oversoul or infinite consciousness) and that a self, a soul which is a part of the divine exists within each being. Actions of the self in this world (karma) dictates the progression of the soul towards salvation and this progression can last over various cycles of birth and death. We see in the Akan religion yet another ancient religion that aligns with the tenets of this ancient wisdom.

Monday - Adjwo , Kwa Adjwo( Kwadjo ) = Moon. Tuesday - Abena, Kwa Bena (Kwabena) = Mars. Wednesday - Akua, Kwa Aku( Kwaku) = Mercury. Thursday - Yaa, Yaw = Earth. Afi, Kwa Ofi ( Kofi) = Venus. Ama, Kwa Amen/Amon( Amon Ra/ Amon Wia;( Kwame) = Saturn. Akosua, Kwa Asi( Kwasi) = Sun. Kwa means servant of. All day names are 7 major deities ruling the universe under Nyankropon.

    • @welekid
      @welekid Před měsícem +1

Excellent !!! .Note that the names for the week days in european languages are the same !
Monday= day of the moon ,in french Lundi=jour de la lune,
      Tuesday ,french Mardi=jour de Mars,
      Wednesday/Mercredi=jour de mercure,
you only said half the thing for Thursday : actually Thursday/Donnerstag is the day of the germanic God Thor/Donnar ,in french it's Jeudi=jour de Jupiter (Jupiter is called Zeus in ancient Greece).Jupiter means father of the SKY.
Jupiter and Thor are both gods of Thunder.
      So actually Yao/Kwaho=SKY and Yaa/Aya =Earth.
That explains the akan Story of Osoro and Asase Yaa.
Osoro comes from acient egyptian HR/Coptic Shoru (Horus of course ,but also SKY ! it's not an accident that the god Horus has the head of a falcon/eagle - KoRe/KoLie in the akan languages- ,the eagle reigns on the sky and of course they're known to have a sharp vision, hence the Eye of Horus , which is used as symbol for precision of mathematical science).I don't need to tell you that in akan language Osoro means Sky...
      Friday/Vendredi=jour de Venus ,
Saturday/Samedi(formerly Saturdi) =Day of Saturn of course
Note that to the hebrews it's the day of Shabbath i.e the day for prayers to god ,just like in akan culture ,when to christian culture it's Sunday and to Islamic culture it's Friday !
Another interesting thing here , is that the Akan culture reveals that Greeks have made a mistake when they identified Zeus/Jupiter to Amen.
Actually Jupiter/Zeus (father of the sky ,god of thunder) is Horus/Osoro/Yaw/Shango in Yoruba and Saturn/Kronos (the god of Time and Death ,the one who eats his own children) is in fact Amen.
This mistake hasn't been corrected to this day , for instance see that article on Wikipedia : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyankapon-Nyame-Odomankoma
It says the Roman equivalent to Onyame is Jupiter 😅
Sunday/Dimanche (formerly Soldi) =day of the sun of course.
Here note that Akosua/Akissi and Kwasi are in fact Osiris ans Isis when they manifest through the sun ( just like they are Kwadjo and Adjowa when they manifest through the moon).
So Kwasi is actually Ausar-Ra .
From all this we'll have to conclude very simply that ,contrary to what colonial folklore tries to tell us, Subsaharan Africans have NEVER been disconnected from the rest of World History. But of course Scientific activity being also very political (let's not be naive !) , Africans must understand that it's their own responsibility to undertake the research when it comes to their History.
Those who understand , just advance ! ,the others will follow when they become able to.

The script is 100% spot on and vividly depicts the Akan concept about God, birth and dead, reincarnation and karma. God, as the all powerful supreme being is masculine in nature whilst earth with its teeming life forms/species is associated with the feminine nature. God is so powerful and revered that one needs a mediator like a linguist to speak to or address him directly hence the deities.

As an Akan from Ashanti tribe, you said something about untimely death, and it's true. We also believe that if someone died in an accident or tragic, your spirit is called "saman tw3n tw3n" means the waiting spirit. This spirit would not be allowed to enter the spiritual land of the ancestors because it's naturally not your time to go there.
So this spirit keeps hovering around and reveals itself to those who are not aware of it death, until certain rituals are performed before the spirit can be allowed to enter the land of the ancestors. I know more about our religion, so thanks for bringing it to the world stage.

The word KWA/kO as found in the day name "KOYAME/" is an agglutinative morpheme use in the Akan language. It is one of the many epitet use to describe the functions of the creator. KWA/kOYA forms from two syllables “KO and YA ”. The Ya is a cognate of the hebrew word Yah and the KO is a cognate of the Kia meaning life.
The K is the hebrew letter ket which means that which posses an arrangement of information personified by the letter “O” in Koyame with the build in machinery to arrange the information to manifest infinite possibilities .For greater clarity the “O” means universal complete bodies of knowledge capable of manifesting fathomable realities. Manifestation depends upon the actions of the initiating spark, the being of Wisdom Personified by Yah in KOYAME that WILL AND Arrange the bodies of knowledge into infinite possibilities. YA/Yah THE BEING arrange atoms that have specific rules of engagement into elements forming , cells, structure and systems to manifest fathomable realities relative to intent of Yah/Ya forming being of wisdom.
Examples of "KO" are “Kosua” or “Kosuya” which means egg and this can be broken down in pieces. "KO" = Life, "SU" = water (from nsuo),
The syllable “ A” in Kwa is from the word “IA” transformed into “YA” over time. "YA" stands for a being with wisdom, example is "Agya" = father. Today we may also recognize "YA" as "ONYA" The “O” refers to the basic name of God, it stands for universality and completeness. ONYA stands for a being who is capable of doing and achieving something by way of wisdom, IT can be found in for example the word “ONyansa”. Over time, the 2 morphemes "KO" & "YA" agglutinate into the word “KWA” and this stands for “being of wisdom the possessor of life, YA”, “The Creator”.
So “KWA” is a word sound given character of the Creator . This is the reason why all the male day names originally started with the prefix "KWA" . The other aspecct of the day name simply describe purpose and function or the Cosmic procession or attribute of that day been enforces by the assigned Obosom aka angel that governs the expression of the associated planetary correspondent. For instance, Kwa Bena. Bena is Mars and its rule by Iron which governs magnetism, discernment, healing, herbs and protection or enforcement of devine law or wisdom.
So kwabena-da means the day or cycle which possess , initiate, arrange the processes that birth the cycle of life or Existence relative to Bena the obosom that rules the planet Mars . This force of nature or Angelic power aka obosom that governs this day is the personification of the elements Iron which governs magnetism, the arteries, digestion, discernment, healing, herbology, medicine , protection and enforcement of devine law or wisdom.
Also ONyame is a agullnative morpheme comprising the syllables Onya and Me. .The “O” refers to the basic name of God, it stands for universality and completeness. It also stands for a being who is capable of doing and achieving something. Examples are “Onipa”, “Otumfuo”and “Onyansafuo”.
“The second syllable which is “IA” transformed into “YA” over time. "YA" stands for a being with wisdom, example is "Agya" = father. Today we may also recognize "YA" as "ONYA" as it stands for a being that possesses wisdom, this can be found in for example the word “ONyansa”.
Then the next syllable is “ME” which stands for self-consciousness , complete, satisfaction. For example after you’re done eating, in Twi you’d say “Ma Men”, meaning I am satisfied , complete, secure etc.
Mamen is a cognate of the hebrew Aman/Amen meaning to be firm and secure in the sense of self sustianing.
The hebrew cosmology and the Indu.
cosmology and the Akan cosmology are all inter connected.
The letter Yod is the first letter in the word Yah. It English cognate is Y.Yod has a value of 10 . 10 is the same value for wisdom in hebrew . The hebrew word for wisdom is Kocmah. Yod also repesents the laws that determines the function and purpose of things . The arrangement of the principles as innthe laws is what make creation possible. Hence the reason Yah in hebrew and Yah in Akan represents being of wisdom as in God Yahowah and NYAHMEH. The number 10 is made up of the number 1 and Zero/O. Alef is the first letter of the hebrew Alphabet have two value 1 and 26. The hebrew letter for one is Alef which means teacher/Alefa and guide/Aloof an it also personify Yehowah as in God by way of the numerical value of the three letters that make up the letter Alef . The letters that makes up the letter alef is two letter yod and one letter waw which has a aggregate value of 26, which is the same value as Yahowah the name of God in hebrew.
The letter yod base upon its numerical value which is 1 and Zero/0 is saying that God is the 1/one that manifest the O . In Akan the “O” in which is found in kwa/ko means universal complete knowledge that births Life and existence.
In eiberi aka the hebrew language this forces is describe as Yehowah or Yahowah . As customary with African languages “Yehowah” is a agglutinative morpheme forms) from three words
1.Hayah the original spark or idea , the wisdom or knowledge of reality that is before us THAT manifest
    2. HOWAH/HOWEH the present existence that is before us that determines the
    3. YEHIYEH the future, that is behind you.
I do not have specific sources on this. However, most ancient faiths non-Abrahamic faiths do not have an idea of a covenant - which if broken sends the person to hell. Akan like the Hindus and other Dharmic faiths believe in honor and reincarnation. And typically, most of these faiths would have seen all possible human behaviors and in general would be more open. I am sure the Akan had names/terms to describe these and my guess would be that they were probably accommodative to these (maybe discouraged familially but probably not punished societally). The hostile attitude might have been more an import from outside than anything. Many of the pre-Christian practices were declared deviant in Africa and so probably there is no real way to find what the reality was. I will try to reach to and find more. Do email me if you need any more inputs.

From Ghana: This attempt to understand the Akan concept of the Ultimate Being is appreciated. However, I want to correct the nation that the Akan do not pray to God directly
1: The Akan has daily informal prayers to God in found in greetings and conversations.
2: There was an Alta dedicated to the Most High God in every compound and in every village where direct sacrifice was offered to God.
3: The central part of the Akan prayers is pouring Libation. In every libation as well as sacrifice the Supreme Being is involved First before His functionaries.
4:What the West refers to as gods are not called gods in the Akan language but Functionaries or messengers of God. Eg Ancestors, Spirit's that use nature ( eg river or mountain) as their abode.
5: Symbol's, names, greetings, signs all serve as direct prayers as well as verbal prayers to God abund in Akan philadelphia.
