  • Sir Keir Starmer has pledged to "get Britain building" in the King's Speech, focusing on housing and infrastructure projects. The Government plans to reform planning laws to accelerate developments. Chancellor Rachel Reeves focussed on reintroducing mandatory housing targets and creating a taskforce to speed up stalled projects.
    Key points include:
Building 1.5 million homes over five years
    Promoting economic growth and stability
Enhancing employment rights and banning exploitative practices
Increasing devolution and giving more powers to metro mayors
Bringing train operators into public ownership
Introducing bills for children's wellbeing, mental health, and equal pay
Carrying over previous government measures on renters' rights and tobacco regulation
Commitment to NATO and improving trade relations with the EU
Addressing historic scandals with a "duty of candour" for public servants
Ian Collins speaks with Talk’s International Editor, Isabel Oakeshott to discuss the pledges in the speech.

Charles sounds boring because he doesn’t believe a single word of what he’s saying.

Oh shut up Ian.....the pomp just further showcases the disconnect between ordinary Brits and this lot.

Yeah but would you see it be destroyed just so you feel a little bit better for a day? When you walk past a statue of King Alfred the Great you will probably feel that same disconnect. So should we pull it down??? You guys are dangerous.

As a private landlord in Wales, due to the Welsh socialist government already implemented a lot of these rules, the outcome is a lot of landlords are, and have been selling up and getting out of the industry. The outcome, a massive housing shortage and homelessness skyrocketing. Good luck England.

He has to read them flat, otherwise people would say he was trying to comment on the bills by inflection.
On the other hand, he could simply have been stunned by how bad the proposed bills are.
