    The Roland V-Synth is an incredible digital / virtual analog modeling synth & sampler from the early 2000s that allows musicians to create, sample, mangle and play with sound in new and innovative ways.
    The Roland V-Synth features numerous real-time controls, including control over a waveform's pitch, time and formant characteristics. It also features an arpeggiator, dual COSM effects, and the revolutionary TimeTrip pad & D-Beam for live interaction with sounds.
    The V-Synth by Roland is available in various models including the Roland V-Synth (v2 / version 2 / 2.0), Roland V-Synth XT, and Roland V-Synth GT.

    I have to say that one of the coolest demonstrations of this synth and its capabilities was when I was in a music store in Montgomery, AL and the keyboard salesman hooked up a Korg Karma to a Roland V-Synth and proceeded to auditorily blow my mind with all the crazy cool stuff that both of them combined could do! I was so impressed that I bought both of them. My original V-Synth along with the Karma are probably my two best hardware synth purchases I've made. Hours of auditory enjoyment!

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 3 lety

      That does sound like a great demo! The V-synth is very powerful on its own but with a Korg Karma, even moreso. Sounds like you are still enjoying them to this day!

    Infected Mushroom used the desktop version for many of their creations. Roland is known for innovation...and V-synth really helped shape EDM sounds after the drum machines and analog synths.

      I have a Roland JD-800 that I sampled all the PCM sounds and use them in my Vsynth. The rack version of the Vsynth had a D50 card option. This card changed the entire unit into a D50 synth. Do you know if the keyboard Vsynth had a similar option? I could not find anything referring to this option for the keyboard version.

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 6 lety

      The VC-1 D-50 and VC-2 Vocal Designer cards are pre-installed internally on the V-Synth XT rack. For the regular V-synth and GT keyboards, the D-50 card would take up the PCMIA slot at back.
      Here is an example of V-Synth keyboard + D-50 card installed: czcams.com/video/kzLLamOcVAU/video.html

    That Roland V-Synth shure has a lot of cool sounds and capabilities. At 6:20 is that Spanish the programmed voices are singin' in? At 9:06 cool Native American flute sounds. Almost sounds like R. Carlos Nakai. At 16:04 cool guitar sounds. The sustain reminds me of what I heard in demo videos fer Fender's all new Ed O'Brien sustainer Stratocaster.

    Licht und Schatten bei diesem Synth, angeblich underratet, aber gleichzeitig overprized. In der Bedienung Roland-typisches Ballaballa, VA klingt eher dünn, aber das Sampling und VariPhrase sind absolut großartig. Seine Stärke sind die bewegten Soundscapes, da geht seine Variablität geradezu ins Unendliche. Insgesamt, finde ich, ist es ein guter Synth, aber die Gebrauchtpreise sind viel zu hoch, da war ja auch der Ladenpreis mit über 3000.- Euro völlig überzogen, Roland halt.

      Dazu kommt leider noch, das der V-Synth, wie so oft bei Roland, nicht zu Ende gedacht wurde, es fehlen einige Funktionen die vorher fast jeder Synth von Roland hatte, Kleinigkeiten, die machen es aber auch aus, Stimmenmässig leider nur 24, wenn man Glück hat... Das Gerät war meines erachtens in einer Zeit auf den Markt gekommen, die für sowas nicht offen war, Roland hätte die XV/JV engine noch mit 64 Stimmen einbauen sollen anstatt die JP 8000 ähnliche VS Sektion, damit hätten sie auch viele andere für das Gerät begeistert die damals auf die JV/XV Reihe standen.

      If you would own the V-synth (GT/XT) and you would understand it's enormous possibilities, you wouldn't say something rather well...'stupid' First of all try to define 'dated' sound? You can't. Is there somewhere a measurable standard that describes dated sound ? It's like people saying a synth sounds 'bad' . Dated because it was made in 2004? Following your insight, a MiniMoog sound dated as well ? Since the V-synth is a combination of VA, Variphrase and Sampling it nearly has no limitations of sound design. So if I sample a synth that is not 'dated' (i.e. a Yamaha MODX) into the V-synth XT, it should not sound dated at all... ? You better study sound design before you start saying things you have no idea on...sorry m8

      ha the irony here is that Behringer named their glorious 12-voice/6-voice analog the "DeepMind" but the majority of buyers will get it on the basis that it's analog as if analog = great and anything not analog = not worthy of attention or "thin." In other words, their minds are not so deep just thinking about that one attribute and no further. Now I'm an analog-lover myself, but recently I caught on to the joys of sample-based synthesis (aka S+S) and WOW I was really missing out only paying attention to analog.
