Depending on the quality, getting it a little damp on occasion might not have a HUGE impact, but, over time, the fabric weave can loosen and cause distortion in the garment and it can also weaken the fabric, making it more prone to tearing etc. Heavier wools (like those used for jackets) are more durable, but you still want to make sure you don't leave them sitting wet for extended periods of time. Don't heat-dry, but a tumble-cycle without heat or hanging it somewhere with good airflow to help it dry as fast as possible is ideal.

Slight tip though, if a steamer leaves water stains like that, chances are it's either broken or just not functioning properly 😊 when I'm to lazy to iron, I just use my actual iron as a steamer (put it on max heat and steam).
