A World War 1 Survivor - Only Working Holt 10 Ton Armored Machine in Existence!

- Tim Seibel shares the history of a 1917 Holt 10 Ton Armored Crawler that saw action in France during World War 1. After the war it was brought back to the United States where it was owned and worked by a family in Minnesota. Fred Weber purchased the tractor and restored it for presentation to Fabick Tractor Company in celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the Caterpillar Company. The Holt 10 Ton is powered by a 930 cubic-inch, water-cooled, 4-cylinder engine.

Blows my mind how some of the simpler parts of these old machines are still in use 100 years later. Pivot pins and bushings etc.
I believe this model has an Electronic Control Module with proprietary software located under the operators front seat.

The County museum of San Joaquin County (CA) has an armored Holt tractor - it is on static display at the Micke Grove Park in Lodi CA. One of the Holt factories was in Stockton which is where San Joaquin county is located.

Actually, the lone dents are for consistent with Armor tests to evaluate the steels bullet resistance, with one dent per panel. This was done up until about mid-World War II.
Hi, Folks.
There is a VERY good chance that the reason given for those bullet dents in the armor is incorrect. As part of the acceptance process for any of these armored tractors, a rifle would be fired at every armored panel on the tractor to test that the armor was up to specification. It is highly likely that those bullet dents were actually a result of this process.
Good to see that it has been preserved and is likely to stay that way for a good while.

I don't know or care what you think might have been the cause of those bullet dents and I don't what 'excuse' that narrator had for them. The FACT is that each of those armoured machines, both the 5-tons and the 10-tons, WAS tested like that before acceptance.

My dad worked for Fred Weber back when Fred Weber was alive and in charge of his company.
I lived in Salem Il for 15 years, wasn't a bad city to live in.
