Ryan McDonald Denali is one
а вдруг патроноконда c: he talks about that mountain on the video and he says it’s 58% underwater
That depends if you define height as distance from base to summit or are normal and define it as vertical distance to sea level. Personally, I'm normal so view Everest as the tallest
There are even mountains with a base to peak height above sea level that are taller than Mount Everest such as Denali in Alaska, Kilimanjaro in Africa, and even Nanga Parbat in the Himalayas.
Mauna Kea is actually so massive that it depresses the earth's crust around it by around 2 kilometers.
Then go and remove the water from the ocean. If you can't then accept that Mt Everest is tall.

endreask only above sea level, both Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are much taller if you’re going by overall height
It is the tallest mountain though
@@jakealter5504 true
I'm surprised you never mentioned Denali. I imagine the incredible water pressure at Mauna Kea's base is what allows it to be so tall without crumbling under it's own weight. So it's got a bit of an unfair advantage.
Is there any proof behind this
Saying Mauna Kea is technically taller than Everest is like arguing about whether the glass is half empty or half full
Not really. Everest is definitely higher than Mauna Kea, but Mauna Kea is the taller mountain measured from base to peak. Therefore, saying Mauna Kea is taller than Everest is more like saying that a 3/4 full glass of water has more water than a 1/2 full glass.

Honestly I've learned more from this channel than I ever did in highschool.
That certainly makes sense since we aren’t usually able to fully concentrate in high school because either we are anxious of succeeding or other students are acting rowdy.
Mauna Kea isn’t the only peak on it’s island, plus there’s several other islands that form a clear elevated about the sea flood chain with it. If we’re allowed to count it’s height from sea floor level to peak when it’s part of a larger landmass, then Everest should get the same treatment and get the height of Eurasia’s elevation above the sea floor added to it.
I live in Ecuador and i remember my teacher telling us how Chimborazo was indeed higher than the Everest.
Sometimes im proud of living here.

Can u explain?
From a climbing perspective Mt. Denali is 4500 meters from base camp to summit while Mt. Everest is only 3348 meters from base camp to summit. Therefore, standing at basecamp, Mt. Denali would appear to be over 1000 meters taller
Another thing to consider is that the base of Everest is well above sea level (about 4,700 meters), giving it a base-to-peak height of only around 4,000 meters. In comparison, Denali in Alaska has a base-to-peak height of 5,600 meters (elevation 6,190 meters, base elevation about 600 meters).

Fun fact: because Chimborazo is the furthest away from Earth's center, then it also furthest from all the rest of Earth's mass. As a result of this, the weakest gravity on Earth can be found on Chimborazo as well.
Let's go there when we are using a scale
I saw a documentary about this and it said that if you were to be able to expand a billiard ball to the size of Earth, it would be rougher in texture than Earth, having much higher mountains and deeper valleys.
Holy shit

@@sociopathicassassin2629 I remember that when I learned that fact it blew my mind.
The same can be said for MT Kilimanjaro which is actually the tallest freestanding mountain on land and you can see it bottom to top in one view.
I was waiting impatiently for Mauna Kea to get mentioned through the whole video. Thank you!
So to make his answer short: Mount Everest is the highest point from the surface of earth and Chimborazo is the highest point from the center of earth.
Not the surface but sea-level. Mount mauna kea is the highest point from earth's surface according to RLL.
That applies for mt Everest too its not from sea bed level but from sea level so the additional height should also be provided to mt Everest
@@abdulle1150 Mauna Kea is by no means the highest point. It is taller than Everest, but its base is much lower so it doesn't get as high.

This is true. At the summit of mt. Chimborazo (actually a strato volcano), there's waaaay less oxigen than at the summit of the Everest, since Chimborazo is the highest point on earth, from the core up. This is why many places in Ecuador feel reeeeally high, because of the earth's bulges, the percentage of oxigen in those areas is way smaller
Is that true? I'd have assumed that the atmosphere and oceans bulge in the same way as the geometry of the rest of the Earth, and as such, air pressure and density would still be consistent with altitude.
It is true

It's also important to say that the air in Mount Everest is thinner than it is in any of the mountains mentioned in the video. Dude what is that pfp
Decent video. Thanks for uploading!
I've actually been to the summit of Mauna Kea (you can climb a short trail from the parking lot to get there...it was VERY windy and like, 3 degrees Celsius). One of the best views in the world, that's for sure, especially at sunset. On a clear day, you can see like, half of the whole island of Hawai'i, including Hualalai and Mauna Loa volcanoes, and even spot Maui off in the distance.
AND while I have not climbed to the top of Chimborazo (I don't have the skills or the equipment to do that technical of a climb), I did visit the mountain (and its amazing national park*) and climb up to just over 5,300 meters on its slopes...and holy crap was that hard, even taking a leisurely walk uphill at that elevation (you can actually drive to about ~5,200 meters, but I wanted to experience the effects of thin air on my body, so I climbed another 100 meters) - assuming you haven't acclimatized to that elevation (and I hadn't), every few steps you take (like, literally 5-10 steps), you have to stop and rest for 20 seconds because at that height there is just *~51% of the oxygen in the air than there is at sea level* (thus, you need to breathe twice as frequently to get the same amount of oxygen saturation in your bloodstream as you'd have at sea level breathing normally). Anyway, given that the summit of Chimborazo is 2 km further from the center of the Earth than Everest, and I was about 1 km from its summit, I was, at that point, just about a whole kilometer closer to the moon than I would've been at the summit of Everest.
So it seems that I've been both at the top of a taller mountain than Everest, AND further from the center of the Earth than the summit of Everest. Guess I need to climb Everest to complete the trifecta of "highest places you can go." But I won't...even if I had the skills, AND the money, I am no summit-bagger. I don't see climbing as a sport, I see it as a way to have interesting experiences, and thus being at the top of Everest wouldn't mean any more to me than the experience of hiking in the Himalayas, learning about local cultures and witnessing amazing wildlife. That I could get behind...but being merely able to get myself up a mountain that has become a punch line in recent meme culture - not interested. I'd rather spend the $40-50K it takes to access the summit (yes, it really is that much if you want a high chance at surviving, sometimes even more...for $25-30K, you take your chances with an unreputable company that may or may not care whether you actually make it back alive) on any number of trips to awesome places...maybe Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, or Vanuatu. Or maybe some place in Africa...I'd like to see Tanzania again (REALLY awesome country), but I'd probably prioritize Ethiopia or the Democratic Republic of Congo...places I've never been.
*Protip: VISIT ECUADOR! It's got everything...beautiful mountains (some of which are active or even erupting volcanoes), amazing beaches, mangrove swamps populated by howler monkeys, gorgeous high-altitude cloud forests which are misty and wet all the time (you might see a herd of alpaca or vicuña), and to top it all off, the AMAZON FREAKING RAINFOREST, which is one of the most spectacular places you'll ever visit (and you can organize tours which take you by boat deep into the forest, and let you hike through the incredible landscape, learning about all of the plants and animals you'll see - it's a MUST-experience place for anyone who loves those BBC nature documentaries. Everywhere you look there's a weird looking beetle or spiky arachnid...strange trees, scarlet macaws, spider monkeys...I even came within a couple feet of stepping on a deadly poisonous fer-de-lance snake...thankfully, I saw it on the trail, sunning itself, and immediately backed off several meters).
