- Howdy ya’ll. If you watched my recent video on The Rock of Gibraltar, our video today is going to be quite entertaining.
We’re going to be focusing on Lionrock in Sri Lanka, also known as Sigiriya or Sinhagiri. The history here, according to both legend and the current narrative, is absolutely enthralling. The structure is both immense and built into a massive rock formation. It should truly be considered one of the wonders of the ancient world.
Current narrative suggests human occupation in the Lionrock area for the last 5000 years, and yet the documented history begins with the rock being a place of Buddhist worship in roughly the Third Century BC. From here, during the reign of King Kashyapa, a Usurper King, (from roughly 477 AD to 495 AD) we’re told he moved the Sri Lankan capital to this secluded Buddhist monastery, climbed the highest peak, and from here, built out Lionrock. The Rock itself, was said to once take the form of a giant Lion, chiseled by hand, built with the help of red brick.
Only upon recent excavations have scholars and historians been able to find remnants of the previous culture that survived the destruction of Lionrock by the Kingdom of Kandy in the 17th century. Today we will discuss all the associated history, look at all the detailed photographs I could find, including the oldest photographs I could find, and we will discuss the endless possibilities as related to the outstanding fortress of Lionrock.

I climbed that thing last april. It's WILD! Not just the formation but the logistics of building a fully functional kingdom on that thing. It had working plumbing that takes water up there and everything. It also used to have working fountains with water just shooting out of man made springs in the courtyard below.
Used to have fountains that shoot water up from ground? Those are still functional today if you visit there during the rainy season. But, I've only seen them shooting up around half a foot maximum probably since the underground plumbing has eroded or clogged up.

I’m Sri Lankan and I have been researching on this since I was a kid. What I have researched and figured out is that this rock has a total different history to what is mentioned by the mainstream media.
King Kassyapa was exiled for killing his father and he found refuge on top of this rock. He was just a king, that story ends there. This rock was sophisticated and already had another very advanced civilization occupying it probably thousands of years ago.
When the British found this after invading Sri Lanka, they have found artifacts, ancient technology inside the rocks chambers. Those 2 bird/lion paws was of recent construct to seal the doorway into the rock shut. So no one would dare to break the bird/lion paws since the historians were told write what was told.
There is supposed to be another entrance to rock, we are still searching for it.

The same reason why they sealed off Pyramid of Giza (the underground passages & the entrance of one of the Sphinx paws which leads to a secret chamber). There's a lot of ancient structure and historical information around the world that the mainstream archeology is covering up.

Apparently the temple use to be aligned about 10000 years ago directly with the leo constellation which is crazy as the pyramids are aligned with the Sirius star system

Because western media only talk about European and middle east history they never show the history of India and Sri lanka you would find many amazing ancient structures in both India and sri lanka, between 1st century to 13 th century ad sri lanka was in their golden times, it was one of the richest country in asia that period, but in late 13th century climate changes and a plague destroyed this entire civilization then in 1315 south Indian empires easily conquered this Broken civilization, but sinhalese still defeated indian invaders in 1336 and tried to build this whole kingdom up, but they failed so they abounded this great civilization, so the whole knowledge of that civilization also gone lost after that

Unfortunately if you want to learn real world history in the west, you can’t rely on public schools you have to do all your research on your own time. Growing up our history curriculum consisted of dates of all the wars/battles! That’s about it! And it was so boring and tedious. I learned to love history when I discovered it as an adult, bc it was NOTHING like what I was taught in school. So many wonders out there and incredible things, and not a single teacher ever mentioned any of it!

I had never heard of Lionrock until I went to Sri Lanka earlier this year. Sri Lanka was beautiful and much better than I expected before the trouble they are having now. The walk up the 2000 stairs took about 45 minutes and the view is breath taking. Well worth a visit if you can but go early to avoid the heat

First of all that is not Lions rock , it was made under the command of Ravana which was half human and half reptile , see its feet it is of a reptile not lion , historians are always wrong in describing hindu structure , if u really want to know the truth ask from the locals not the historians .
Those are NOT Lion Paws! The number of toes are indicative to a BIRD OF PREY - 3 TOES OF CLAWS (and I bet, one in the back for GRIPPING BRANCHES = total of 4). Maybe it was a Dragon? Lion paws are similar to a cat or dog - four front toes and one "thumb" = 5 in total.
In chinese astrology, the sign of Leo is the Dragon, as the "king". Maybe these 2 creatures and their symbolisms are closely connected.

I always thought it was a dragon . Those talons and you can see where the wings even wrapped around the entire rock. I mean it's so old but you can make out those wings. A real antedelluvian relic. There's a channel called WISE UP and he's great at pointing out where the wings used to be. Yeah wow lion rock... named so by the controllers no doubt to induce amnesia. Still awesome to learn about.

I'm amazed that I never heard of the site which actually situated so near from Indian, I'm an Indian. And I know most of the archeological places in America and Europian countries but having such a archeological masterpiece so near astounded me.

Sri Lanka is a land of wonders. This is only the beginning for you. There are many many things hidden from the world. Our country is full of gems 💎. Now they even think lot of history is wrong and there is a whole talk about Buddha is born in SL not India. Srilanka had its aeroplanes even before rite brothers found planes. We even have mystery mountains where we see lights flying and landing etc. Although I myself can’t believe it. Only villagers say. Our country is in the lowest of gravity spot in the whole world according to NASA it seems. We have got one of the 3 star gates in the world. Etc etc 😊
@@Thisisme918Yes! We have to thank the British who as usual tried to rewrite our history. A Buddhist monk along with a couple of lawyers are trying to sue the British government for taking original Buddhist scriptures that gives the real history of Buddha's birthplace and his teachings written in thousands of years ago. Hope they were able to win the case and get the documents back to Sri Lanka where it belongs.
@@vision2096 That is good. I myself is a devout Catholic. But this is my country. If british stole our buddhist original scripts then we should try our best to take them back to where it belongs. India fought and got lot of artifacts back to their motherland from Britain. Just few monks trying is not enough. It should be a government involvement level. Deep in the middle of Sri Lanka, this massive column of rock juts out from the green tropical forest. It reaches 660 feet tall and features landscaped gardens.
The rock is known as Sigiriya (see-gee-REE-yah) and currently holds a special place in the island’s cultural history.
It was established as the stronghold of a rogue king over 1,500 years ago, and today the Sigiriya complex stands as one of the earliest preserved examples of ancient urban planning. Ultimately the rock was unable to save its king, but it succeeded in preserving ancient Sinhalese culture.

Anuradhapura was the high point of ancient sri lankan civilization. The invasions and conflicts that followed gradually led to it's decline.

@@dhanu_4539 yup, Anuradhapura was at its zenith. An advanced hydraulic civilization that had immense wealth and were of high Consciousness which the Romans were impressed by. That being said, having climbed Sigiriya multiple times and being Sinhalese who is well versed with occult knowledge, it became apparent to me that the rock has been constructed by two separate civilizations existing in two separate ages, and this is reflected in the rock.
The more recent civilization which the King story is attributed to built over the existing structure using red brick with mortar. The previous builders however used Geopolymer to create megalithic stone of which was built without mortar, and is more precise and refined. It parallels Teotihuacan in the Yucatán, where you will find the low quality small stones stacked vertically with mortar by the Aztecs on top of the high quality large stones stacked horizontally by a previous civilization whose everything the Mayans inherited.
Additionally while it is called Lions Rock, and of course has kept to the brand for some time now, a Monk has indicated that- with much shunning by others- the Paws are actually Claws related to a Makara, a type or reptilian that is large enough to prey on Elephants and be also be domesticated for riding.
I belief the Claws themselves are the work of the species of human known as our Parent Race whom have gone by many names. Asura/Ahura/Æsir and Deva/Daeva/Tivar in Indo European, Amaru In Mesoamerica from which the term America originates, Jsw in Egyptian later Anglicized to Isu used in works such as Assassins Creed and Halo. They are the Titans generation, referred to as Cyclopes due to their third eye capability, in Lanka such capability belonged to the Yodha, who built the megaliths. In French they are the Cro Magnon. They are of Atlantis (Earth in the Pleistocene) and we are of New Atlantis (Earth in the Holocene).
That being said, pay attention to Assassins Creed lore, especially when the produce an India game. Lanka will either be part of it, it’s own game, or an Atlantis style DLC relating to the Isu Era.
I've been there in 2011 but, having not hired a guide, i never heard of that story, i always thought the paws were more those of a sort of dragon. Fascinating place not to be missed, the murals and paintings visible on the ascenscion (female dancers) are not to be missed too

The lions head fell off from the top recently. There are some old black and white pictures of it. My dad has seen it when he was a young boy, now he is 85 years old. It’s a shame this palace got discovered very late and was in ruins. It was abandoned for centuries.
You can see and visit similar structures all over South Asia. That is the golden time for that part of the world.During this period,Europe was in the dark ages.

From ancient times we had great civilizations but fell in1815 becoming a British colony. British looted us for 300 years. They took with them all our wealth, gems, ivory, historical writings, palm leaf ola leaf manuscripts, many armory of kings, jewelry of queens, statues and coins… they are all in British museums now forever forbidden for us. One European guy destroyed some of Lion rock frescos some times back. legends have it, that their is secret entrances around floor level which leads to open cavities and adorned rooms hallowed out into the mountain rock, with stair systems that lead all the way to the very top temples. This provided easier passage to get to the top, and also provided abodes to live within. Some of the passages or tunnels continued few hundred feets and miles away from Lionsrock to provide escape routes to not be seen entering the boulder, or exiting. Also, no one has figured it out yet how it works, but the pool of water you see at the top of the mountain boulder, constantly has an inflow of water that keeps it filled, even when it doesnt rain. So their must be some kind of ingenious vertical pressure pump system carved into the rock that connects to a underwater aqua duct or river vein or in the man made lake you see next to lionrock.
the entire infrastructure is so well designed, that when it does rain, it has drainage systems to prevent flooding. most of the water is diverted towards the outside, while a good portion fills storage tank systems found deep within the cavities of the rock. What ever group built this, is eons ahead of our current architectural and engineering knowledge.
The place was basically an impenetrable fortress unless you had flying vehicles, or knew where the entrances were located few hundred feets away. For the main entrance you see right now, was a later addition not part of the original built.

We have to take the legends and myths as real and not figment of imagination of the ancestors of man. Its us in a time where knowledge of the advances of angelic heavens flourished in the earth, but it was all taken away because things got out of hand. Went there a few years back. It takes about 2 hours to get to the top. Quite a climb . Not that many people there. It was over 30C. One of the most impressive places I have ever been. It's well worth a trip it one of the nicest places I have ever visited. I try and visit Sri Lanka twice a year.Never tire of the people or the country.
You are lying about something, sir, he was there with his wife in 2015, they climbed the stairs in 20-25 minutes. For 2 hours, you can drive there in a wheelchair.

nevermind why there's like a 400 year gap in the historical records. well, i think we both know why already but just playing dumb so to speak, those missing 400 years seems to be the same across the planet. like how do we forget that there were giant pyramids in Egypt or any of the other major stuff unless a major disaster occured. Now, was it the flood or something else? I also saw a video, trying to recall who but it's probably someone you've come across judging by your alias, that showed a historical book that listed the apostles of Christ being locked up in the dungeons in England back in the mid 1800s. So yeah, something is really amiss with our history and my research has led me to believe that it is all centered around one thing, to deny the existence of God. I even have come to the conclusion that even UFOs are demonic in nature and not little green men based off of research of others but also notably some of the observations made in the distant past. Namely how the "UFOs" always seem to appear in a manner that the people of the day would be able to recognize. Like, there are tales of flying "ships" and chariots but there is also an account in which a "flying boat" stopped above a church tower, and "dropped an anchor" to the tower. The men watching below then rushed and climbed up the church to remove the anchor from the tower while at the same time, someone exited the "flying boat" and did swimming motions down to the anchor. Hey, im from Argentina, south America. There is a place here called Valle de la Luna or Ischigualasto (Moon Valley), its right in between the provinces of San Juan and La Rioja, and the place has a lot of weird formations that they call natural, but they are definitely eroded sculptures (apparently there is several marks that point that this place was under water). There are multiple sphinxes, pillars, and there's even a rock that clearly has a face and people dont even pay attention to it. I dont know of anyone that has done any research about it, and they even have a closed part of this place that is for ''scientific'' purposes.....

Did you cover the land surrounding it like the river and all the strategic flood traps through out the many court yards it's a much bigger complex than just the the rock this was designed to be a formidable fortress
And all those gardens now excavated are only a quarter of the real complex. other parts are still inside the forest.

That would explain the capillary action of the tree fibers and how the water was able to make it to the top, even to this day. Check out the waterfalls that come from the top of Mt Roraima in Guyana. Another giant tree!

I've learned that Rocks can carry water upward, like giant sponges. Brad Kittel who builds Tiny homes in Texas showed me this on his site. His youtube channel is "Tiny Texas Houses"
Probably why we see huge waterfalls coming from the tops of hills/mountains when there appears to be no river to supply it.
@@teresaweeks8214 yup. Has to do with permaculture and the subterranean aquifers jettisoning out. This is how springs are formed.
In Sri Lanka there are many waterfalls, and if you search for the local youtubers who Hike up and finds these waterfalls, you’ll find that the rocks surrounding the falls themselves don’t look natural, and more like they were artificially cut and at one point in a time long past belonged to a hydraulics related structure of which has been damaged and destroyed resulting in the ‘leakage’ of water creating a river, stream, and waterfall.

I’ve been there… it’s the archeological Disneyland of Sri Lanka. But an amazing place… even the gardens and grounds at the base of the rock are stunning!

Never heard of this place… Why isn’t this rock more well known?
I visited Sri Lanka in the 80s,i went to Kandy but never heard of Lion rock until two years ago,the video had close up pictures of the lion claws,but they`re not feline claws in any way,they have detailed skin around them which look like a reptile far more than a lion,anyway thanks for kindling some amazing memories.

A building, a being, a huge tree stump.........all very possible ideas.
There’s so many buildings & structures that are very old with heat damage… or lighting damage.
It’s strange.
There is one glaring problem, however. Lions have four toes. These paws only have three. This could not have been a lion, originally. Perhaps there had been a head, once, and it had been reshaped to resemble a lion. But, like the Sphinx, it wasn't the original form, possibly being recarved more than once. Or, the feet were already there before the head was ever made. This is more reminiscent of a dragon, wrapping around the rock, and ending in the missing head near the top.
When looking up the amount of toes for other animals, three toes is very rare. There's a three toed sloth and some birds with three toes. Perhaps dragons did have three digits.

in fact, can’t put my finger on it, but i wanna say that they remind me of the paws/feet from a mural/relief of a Hindi god that was a gargoyle of sorts, can’t remember... Either Hindi or maybe Thai? painting, sorry for the vagueness, just remember the face/teeth and the claws
Inside the lion rock is a hollow chamber with riches you can see the entrances to the inside chambers and rooms have been covered with concrete, the concreted part is visible if you go up on top and at the ground (on top of the rock) it's a little part that can fit 10 people at one time. If you want to see go and visit it then look at it properly
The Battle Elephants were transported to the top of “Lion Rock” when the were, as yet, very young, freshly weened from their mothers. The rock never boasted the head of a lion or any other creature. It only ever had the two feet, possibly crocodile feet, some reasoning that they are dragon feet. The aging and normal water marks circumnavigate the entire plateau, with even coloring, not showing any new clean rock where a larger section might have broken or fallen from the upper precipice.
Every source I can find about it says that there was a lions head. How do you know there was no lions head?
@@righty-o3585 no idea if there was once more than this feet - but that are really reptile feet, when you search for Praveen Mohan by example you find a video about that place especially about the feet.

They did not make the feet to look exactly as of a Lion. Check other Sculptures of Lions in Sri Lanka, The lions do not look like real lions. Sri Lankan lion flag is one of the Oldest flags of the world, And there are lot of cronicals that include lions. Only other creature these feet could belong to is the Mythical or now extict bird of Pray called the 'Gurula'. Gurula is also found in many Sri Lankan sculptures, art and maskes. This bird was always depected together with cobras. It must have specially prayed on Cobras i guess.

I love your channel. I believe that the ancients had more technology than we give them credit for. I don't see how any of this could be achieved in a practical time with chisel. Especially when consider the intricacies of this structure

You should visit Sri Lanka and see how our ancient kings made hydraulic system irrigation that works to-date since 2500 years. Some are so big that it looks like the ocean. And not to mention it's beautiful beaches and tea plantations in the hills.

I always have a hard time wrapping my head around how they actually sculpted these features into the rocks without machinery we have today
Not that tough when an entire village is working on it.
They have even had flying machines in their earlier ancient history. And there has been a crab like machine used as an elivator to climb up the rock. All these were lost in time when king kashyapa rebuilt this place as his kingdom.
Xuan Wu Snake Turtle? Could explain the 3 claws . was a well know feared and worshipped divine beast . Known as a beast of fortification , one of earth and water . Kinda had a lion like head .
Sri Lanka is amazing in terms of constructions and legends. Adam's/Rama's Bridge has an amazing story including monkey men, and the remains of the bridge are still there to see. Great video as always. Thank you.

Sigguria sounds alarmingly close to Ziggurat. As a building inspector I can tell you that structure was not built in 20 years. Period. It looks like it was begun sometime around 4000 bc

This place is called singagirya or sigiriya. That means Lions rock in Sinhala. The lions head fell from the top in 1940s I believe. My dad has seen the head when he was a kid.

Kind of strange each paw only has 3 tows? For a lion you’d think they’d get that right ? Looks more like a Dragon foot to me or some other beast but that’s just me
They have no lions in Sri Lanka.
I always thought the same thing that this was a dragon or a serpent a lizard of some. Someone else brought up a good point that it looks like talons of a bird of prey. There are legends from that area of small people fighting with giant cranes

I heard a theory that the sphinx was originally a rock that looked like a lion and was carved to look more like a lion and then over thousands of years it was re purposed and reshaped into what it it now. It’s fascinating to think there could have been multiple of these around the world and possibly was part of a lost global culture.
