@@omato2288 Except for bosses, most of the hack is very easy. IBJ is very easy to do, and you have so many moves. The escape is the only actually difficult part that's NOT a boss.
Super Metroid Redesign has a 25min escape that's...imo...far more panic inducing. Mostly, because of the morph ball rolling speed being incredibly slow and only having "three bombs at a time".
I was thinking metroid escape 2 with its escape sequence having a boss in the middle of it immune to the hyper beam... somehow. That is if you dont know the exploits
@@belmontiesteak1096 - Redesign is also more punishing because it follows Prime's "you lose damn near everything" bit during the Mother Brain fight, so falling into a lava or acid pit at an inopportune time will just kill all of the momentum. You also have to navigate flooded sections without Gravity, High Jump Boots or Spring Ball as well.
you're an idiot if you thought he would have posted a video of him failing. I wasn't on the "edge of my seat" because I knew the whole time he'd make it.
The Mother Brain fight is more of a plot point than an actual battle. Once you have the Hyper Beam, it's a complete curbstomp. Only the absolute worst Metroid players (or people who lost on purpose) would die at that point.
Escape tips and tricks 10:20 For a faster escape: run fast enough in ball form before the room where you use the speed booster effect or shinespark to destroy the blocks that are on the left. If not fall on the collapsing floor to let shaktool clear the blocks for you after you've fallen down 12:32 Go up to Brinstar, enter the Bomb Torizo room, then go through the door on the right to save the animals
You can speedball in regular Super Metroid as well, but it works differently there, you need to transition from a speed booster run with the mockball method.

Dude that is insane. If that escape route was on the original game I would die so many times. That is so complicated and stressful at the same time. :O
i mean , escape routes are always should be filled with tricks and reactions , thats the last test the game gives... but gotta say, this one is waaaaaaayyyy too long, 10 mins to 15secs...
Watching a few videos of this rom hack, it feels like there is very poor conveyance. While yes, in real life, you likely won't have things guiding you in any way, conveyance is very important from a game design perspective. Take that escape sequence for example. I can't imagine it is uncommon for people to simply not figure out where to go after even a couple attempts. The sequence itself doesn't feel intuitive. When you compare it to the original, while you've never been in the rooms you're going through, you get a feeling of where to go. Sure, there are a couple paths that are dead ends, but they're short and easy to recover from. There was a straight upaze section in this rom hack's escape, which feels both out of place and unnecessary.
@@tommyliu7020 Seems like you missed the entirety of my point. The conveyance is lacking. If you are playing a game going, "I don't know what I'm supposed to do..." then that game is lacking in design maturity. This is the point of conveyance. It's fine that it's a long escape. It's fine that it's a hard escape. The problem I see with it is that it's an escape with 1: Multiple dead-ends that are difficult to recover, and 2: Has no indication of what you're actually supposed to be doing other than escaping. The latter is the big problem, not necessarily the former. The former isn't a problem at all, given that the timer is forgiving enough to allow for 1 or 2 mistakes without sacrificing the entire escape attempt.
@@banggugyangu Except this guy made pretty much every single mistake you could make here while performing almost no advanced techniques for movement, and still made it out. Also, gonna point out this escape is REALLY damn cool compared to other hackers attempts, like Axiel editions. You want a REALLY bad escape? Give that a glance.
OMG! Talk about stressful! That escape route was long-winded, and I am almost certain that first timers would have gotten lost on their way out, and died with the planet!
I can't figure out how to actually play this game, I downloaded the rom hack and thoroughly read the installation instructions. I found the Lunar IPS file but I can't figure out how to use it to apply the Hyper Metroid rom hack to my Super metroid rom. I checked the kilobytes and downloaded the correct version (headered in my case) but none of the options allow me to do any "applying". please help.
First of all, you'll need to have an emulator to play this game. I use Zsnes. Then, you gotta have the app Lunar IPS on your computer. Install it. Then, you download both the original version of SM(rom) and the Hyper Metroid version(ips format). Open the app Lunar IPS and choose apply ips. Choose these two files and combine them. Drag the "new" file into the Zsnes and have fun :)
The only way they could make this MORE stressful is if they forced you to fight some of the bosses again along the way. Now that would be a cool twist!
They didn't make that escape easy in any way shape or form. That was stressful just from watching.
Yeah that was way too tight. Not in a fun way.
I wouldn't have enjoyed having to do that over and over.
He even saved the animals.
Serious props to you, man.
Accidental save the animals? Either way, good job. Such a close call!
I like how parts of Tourian look organic and rusted as if the the acid is corroding the metal pipes.
That s a good feature
Two years later, he still hasn't escaped...
15:24 "NOW WE PANIC!" best line haha

Wow !!! Panic city. I am so glad this is not how the original escape was, cause I would have died MANY times. You sir are awesome.
I beat this today and I made it to the ship with about 3 seconds left. Holy shit talk about intense!
15* seconds
Ill sub just bc u nailed that with 15 sec left! It's rare to be on the edge of your seat over watching a video game

I wish axiom verge had an escape sequence like metroid games
Hey, maybe in the sequel!
So which escape sequence is more insane: this one or Super Metroid Redesign's?
this one because its a lot of different ways the redesing one the problem is that you Just have morph ball and bomb
you are very accurate in playing the game is just that the game seems extremely hard to figure the escape routes
I guess that SM hack, had what the original version didn't: a massive, stressful escape the world scene.
"Its the worst escape route ever!"
That was obviously the point
Super Metroid escape: scenic route
I would have quit if I died.
Whta happened to the samus theme when metroid die, that part was awesome

Congratulations Joey
Soon as you had to free Shaktool, I knew this was gonna be the most troll escape possible.
It really does get the "JESUS FUCK HURRY I'M GONNA DIE!!" Vibe down pat. So strong, yet it means nothing.
First couple of rooms I’m like “that’s tough but doable.” And then it got worse
Worst escape route ever... or greatest?
Greatest ofc.
It's one of the greatest IMO, because first, it seems that you have enough time, but then you realize that it's getting very close to the end.
This music and the alarm...

This escape route is nuts!! Loving it :)
