  • ANIMAL rights campaigners have demanded an end to the use of goats in painful military experiments in Hampshire.
The tests, carried out by defence research company QinetiQ at a facility in Alverstoke, Gosport, involve subjecting goats to extreme pressures in sealed chambers.
The Ministry of Defence, which commissions the experiments, say they are essential for researching the effects of "the bends'' to help keep Royal Navy crews safe.
The results are used to establish "safe escape strategies'' for submariners who are forced to leave their vessel deep underwater.
    From Echo Newspaper
Dstl was formed from the July 2001 split of the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA). Dstl was established to carry out and retain the science and technology work that is best done within government,[4] while work that could be done by industry (forming the majority of DERA's activities) was transferred to Qinetiq, a government-owned company that was later floated on the stock exchange.Dstl absorbed the Home Office's Centre for Applied Science and Technology (CAST) in April 2018,[5] taking on CAST's role[6] to apply science and technology to support the Home Office's operations and frontline delivery, provide evidence to support policy, and perform certain regulatory functions.Dstl was a trading fund of the MOD from its formation until 2016, when it became an executive agency of the MOD. The establishment was part on the Institute of Naval Medicine they war involved in research into the effects of the bends in humans also the effects of sea sickness. They were responsible for training military Diving Medical Officers.
They had several Decompression chambers that were used experimentally and also worked with Hospitals to administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to try and cure military and civilian divers that had the effects of the bends. They were also able to help people that had carbon monoxide poisoning and help MS sufferers
The Goats have a similar respiratory system to humans hence why they kept them for experiments

The red spherical wall mounted items are most probably salt dispensers/lockers for the goats. Salt is an essential part of some goat breeds dietary needs.
The bonded stores area that Matt described in terms of his Customs days, is more likely to be related to materials that had either been rejected as being not fit for purpose, or had yet to be approved by quality assurance as be ok to use. The sign did say quality assurance bonded store.

Ever heard of mind the pun , peflurocarbon it's a liquid you can breath like in the film abyss it's basically emniotic fluid that can be used for super deep sea diving, just a suspicion , I'm pretty Shaw the tank house had the tank to drain in to a pool on the second floor with a cart that could also wheel into it and had a door all on the second floor the outher plant building had another separate tank for draining the main tank completely from the main tank house it seemed to also have a heating and cooling system I bet it could be pressured also but this is all my own best guess at what they were doing.

Great video ...stayed up late on a school night to watch the whole vid! Always find Qinetiq sites fascinating given the history behind them. I don’t think this site was ever part of INM tho, I was privileged to visit here in 2000, some parts were off limits, there was a large technical workshop which features in the end of your vid. The valuable bits of kit/chambers were lifted out via the roof via crane and then moved to Haslar via road convoy around 10 years ago now. Some pics online somewhere! The high security and razor wire was down to it being sensitive but also was regarded as a high threat from animal protestors some of whom blockaded the site once. Oh by the way Q staff had their leaving “do” in that 2 tier conference room!

24:00 pneumatically operated valves. A low pressure air supply acts on the membrane in the large disc at top. Low pressure large area ay top membrane = high pressure low area at valve actuator inside. Control air line aways under pressure. Zero control input has a few psi so you can see system is charged and isn't leaking. Control input needs higher psi. Zero input can mean valve fully open or fully shut depending on how its set up. Old school process plant kit.

In America they just put it under the heading of "National Security" which is exempt from the Freedom of Information Act. Plus, if you do find out what you are doing, they will either 1: Kill you outright, 2: Slap a gag order on you so that if you talk about it you either disappear in a prison somewhere or are killed, 3 Threaten you and your loved ones into silence! The military here will keep it's secrets intact at ANY cost! In Brittan you have it a lot easier especially if you are well known like TheSecretVault/Matthew Williams is. The man is a genius!
