  • Tokopah Falls is a 1,200 foot cascading waterfall in Sequoia National Park. The trail to the waterfall is 4 miles round trip and it walks along the Kaweah River as you make your way back to the falls. It is one of the most popular hikes in the park and here is a video of my dad and I's recent trip there.

I was blessed to have a Father who cared enough to take his children to this and many other National Parks. When one considers how difficult and not always interested children are sometimes, his love for us was demonstrated. I miss him.

Yes, a snow plant. They grow immediately after the snow thaw and don't last long after. I camp host at table mountain campground told us about it. My kids thought it was the plant from guardians of the galaxy. Sherman Trail from lodgepole is a nice trail. We saw a bear on the trail this year.

That red plant is called commonly Snowplant. It’s very striking. I first saw it in Lake Tahoe. It’s all over the sierras. It thrives in snowy climates. I love sequoia. It was my first national park adventure when I first moved to CA in 1985. It holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for sharing this hike.

Love that trail! Definitely a highlight of the park. We also saw marmots and some door when we were there. Thanks for bringing up the memories!
It was one of our scariest hikes ever, though, as we did not realize that a storm had followed us up the valley. Just as we turned around at the end of the trail all hell broke loose: lightning und thunder, pouring rain like we were IN the falls. Luckily some of those boulders you mention gave us cover and when the worst was over we sprinted back to the car in no time.

Yes! At the falls there is a rocky area on the banks of the falls. You can climb up that area for as far as you want. And yes, there are also many refreshing areas to dip, but you really have to be careful because the marble fork Kaweah River has super deadly rapids after the snow melts.

      The Lakes Trail,
one of the most popular hikes in Sequoia National Park, climbs through dense forest to a landscape of polished granite dotted with four beautiful lakes and set amid a backdrop of rugged ridges anchored by Alta Peak (11,204-ft.).
July 4th, I went on this trail up to the first lake which is Heather Lake (8.2 mile round trip). Peoples were swimming in the lake.

Do you ever fear for some unexpected wildlife appearance while hiking?
Also, what's the average budget for the mayority of your trips? Would you say national parks are expensive for a relatively complete experience?
    Just wondering...
    Great content!

Thanks for the comment. No, I don't have a fear of wildlife experiences on the trail. I have ton hundreds of hikes and never seen any real wildlife to watch out for other than snakes, which I am always careful around. For National Parks, I have the National Parks pass which is about $80 a year. This pass gets you into all the National Parks in the USA. The other costs would just be food, where you stay and gas. National Parks can be pretty cheap if you camp and pack your own food, but it does depend on how you travel. Hope that helps!

Check out Heather Lake via Watchtower Trail. The lake is a real treat, a beautiful crystal clear oasis! One of my favorites. How busy is Sequoia right now? Was this over the holiday weekend?

Wow, that sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing! This was actually a few weeks back on a weekday and it was pretty empty. I am not sure how it is now though.
