      I'm afraid you're mistaken. Cate did not win for this performance. Although this was one of the strongest performances of the year, she wasn't even a frontrunner, because the film was not well received by neither critics nor audiences. Julie Christie was the frontrunner as she won the sag, golden globe, and a ton of other critics awards, but then ended losing to Marion Cotillard for "La vie en rose." However I do agree with your comments on Shakespeare in love. Both the film and Paltrow were overrated. I do like her, but she was the weakest of the bunch.

      it's true, it's just a movie, entertainment after all. But these days, the films are based on real events, are watched closely. In the end, the film is left alone in an ode to Elizabeth, without elaborating on the reasons, for example, of Spain (Philip II was king consort of England) and Isabel was bastard. Nor is explained, the murder of the Queen of Scotland by Elizabeth and that day is today still a matter of discussion in Scotland and it was one of several causes that Spain would dismiss Isabel.

In that film Kapur saw Cate emerging from a pond of water, her face just breaking its surface, and he said he'd found his Elizabeth. A brilliant choice, but Armstrong found her first.

Its a messed up story but I don't know how anyone would look up to Mary.. Henry denied Elizabeth heir to the crown despite her being his daughter. This is probably the most happily historically inaccurate film I've seen in some time. It should be called Elizabeth: The Myth.
    She was very violent towards her own people as well as the Irish, and bankrupted England by trying to fight the Spanish several times and failing. She also lived off of piracy. And never road a horse into battle or wore armor or any of that. The Spanish Armada mostly sank on it's own in a storm. I could do this all day. This film is itself a curious descendant of English propaganda from her own reign. How strange.

    • @aliciacoburg155

    • @johnnonamegibbon3580
      @johnnonamegibbon3580 Před 8 lety +21

      I'm not Irish, I'm just a student of history. And she bankrupted England in several useless wars against Spain in the Netherlands that led nowhere.
      Plus, she was really into torture. She would read stories of people she had tortured before going to bed. That's beyond creepy. And she helped create a propaganda campaign against Catholics based on misinformation about the Spanish inquisition.
      She claimed they tortured and killed everyone, when modern historians find it was mostly a myth in reality. While she herself engaged in similar behaviors she objected to. She was the actual Spanish Inquisition.

    • @aliciacoburg155
      @aliciacoburg155 Před 8 lety +5

      Well I guess it's priority. Economic downturns or having your imports blocked or even worse, invasion and foreign rule. Without her, the empire may not have been kick started and grown into the great British Empire. I'm probably not at liberty to comment very in depth on the Elizabethan age as my education is largely based on the early Tudors.

    • @johnnonamegibbon3580
      @johnnonamegibbon3580 Před 8 lety +13

      Alicia Coburg I'm an
      American historian. And I also dabble in Iberian history. I know that she really wasn't in any position to stop a serious invasion from Spain. She had already lost all her money and military against the Spanish in the Netherlands. Which left her wide open. I'm sure she played a role in developing the country in a certain direction, as all monarchs do, but wasn't a sliver of the hero she's shown as here. She relied mostly on piracy. Tortured her own and invented many successful propaganda campaigns based on misinformation. Massacred the Irish, etc.
      lolShe was a scumbag to me, honestly. But, hey, the English like her a lot. I think mostly because she had weird red hair.

Thus, i understand to knew now why the royal order was in its strictly culture, rules to get followed down to it's throne !
    While it's a very good movie , I add to tell from it's end as the Queen Elizabeth remained there is the explored favor she will both had won to her not only as her majesty but also as is Elizabeth ! I'm not satisfied in end part ..because you know (i've seen her like that her hair in her horse bare to lead her war shows her true self and intent regardless of y' know , to her loving people.. she drew her victory as well.)

Her IMAGE is that of a virgin to protect the kids' identities, and because people in that time didn't understand a woman's right to choose whom she loves, she was supposed to marry another royal who would control her. In order to be safe from this, she declared she is staying virgin because that was the only way in which her choice would be respected, as a religious thing (as you do now, still stuck in the Patriarchal view). All they wanted was heirs so they could control people further; but she declared a law that HER own heirs would be those that come out of her body.
