    I read “The R**e of Nanking” a few years ago and it’s definitely an emotional book. Its so descriptive that you feel like you are there during the invasion seeing it all happen and there’s nothing you can do. I’d highly recommend reading in chunks, read some, step away.

    As for Steinbeck, I really liked "A Russian Journal". Might also be interesting for you from a Photographers perspective. Its non-fiction and basically a travel report from his journey together with Robert Capa to the young Soviet Union right after WWII (1947 or 1949 or something like that). Really liked it!

    I think it is better to be safe then sorry. I hate that certain words are being censored though. Yes it is a horrible thing to happen to anybody but I also believe we should be talking about these things using the words so that we can learn and fight against the acts. Yes this is hypocritical, the fact that I am avoiding the word as well 😂

    Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors. As a pulitzer prize winner, The Grapes of Wrath is very highly regarded and very good, but iI preferred East of Eden. My first Steinbeck book was Cannery Row and I loved it. That's the book that hooked me. I guess it was actually my 2nd Steinbeck. We read Of Mice and Men in school, also great. This is why he's one of my favorite authors!

  • @ib_ratton
    @ib_ratton Před 3 měsíci

    Great book choices!
    You should read Grapes of Wrath first so that East of Eden becomes your Steinbeck favorite! Save the best for last 😂
    Travels with Charley is another popular Steinbeck and is actually a nonfiction! It follows Steinbeck and his dog as they trek across America. It's a short read and really fun!

    I have just started reading about a year ago, never tried before but loving it in general. Probably an unpopular opinion but I found The Great Gatsby to be a tad overrated. Just didnt hook me.
    A pretty short read I would recommend is The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Something really different but intriguing. Also for a laugh and an extremely light read go with Ayoade on Too - Richard Ayoade
    Currently working through the Three Body Problem series at the moment too, sci fi but again a really interesting concept.
    (I am yet to find my niche haha so trying everything)
