You know what is weird about my generation? We took this level of music for granted. We expected this level of excellence from our musical heroes. We all grew up practicing piano, organ, trumpet, violin, drums. We studied the classics, big band, jazz, the Blues. At some point in the 50's we switched to guitars and electric basses. We sang in choirs. We listened to early trend setters. We learned lessons from those that came before us. And more importantly we knew what great music sounded like. Leonard Bernstein knew it when he heard the early Beatles. George Martin knew it. Berry Gordy knew it. We were 25 years in the making and we did not disappoint.

B-Rad here again im the Zep Head that resently got turned on to your podcasts! Deep purple was my first love into music after i left you a novel about all things Zep i checked out your other podcasts and saw your child in time one and got that perma grin on again! Deep purple is another group you will love, check out Deep Purple made in Japan another live album i grew up with starting when i was 12 yr old that made my grand parents flip a lid when i got my first 8 track for x- mas and made in japan was in my xmas sock hanging from the fireplace! I set it up in their living room and when grandma heard these screams, well she screamed at me to turn down this crap! Then bitched at my mom for buying it for me telling her i was going to go deaf, get into drugs and becone a delinquent from hell! Lol! Well she was 2 out of 3, i still have my hearing intact after over 50 years of blasting this music at ear bleeding levels pkus tge hundreds of concerts ive been to its a true miracle i still can hear! So i was a quailty inspector for many mind alternating chemicals through out the many years, i did quit alcohol 15vyrs ago but still dabble once in a while and now weed is legal! She passed away 8 yrs ago and lived a long jugding life but she loved me and saw that i turned out ok! You are on track so far with your picking of great bands that are worth checking out! Im from Seattle so grunge was a big part of my musical pleasure, check out Soundgarden badmotorfinger Chris Cornel had one of the biggest ranges in vocals of anyone it was a great loss losing his talented singing and song writing abilities, he was a big Zeppelin fan also! The Melvins and Mudhoney are a couple of favorites too! Im proud of you stepping out of your normal listening genre to opening up to the other side to see what else is out there. With all of the crazy political bullshit going on with this administration trying to divide the masses so as to weaken this nation to control us and take away our freedoms! Its up to us, we all need to come together which nakes us stronger as a nation and spread peace on this planet! It doesnt matter where you come from, what color your skin is, who you love, we all bleed red! Its 2024 theres no room for hate, judgement and thinking that im better tgan anyone else, assholes come in all colors, racism is a taught evil that needs to stop! Let people worship whoever they want or not, if it gives you comfort and love praying to a blade of grass as your god then do so im cool with that! But those that teach hate, lack respect to women and raise their children to hate and kill others just cuz we dont believe in what they believe is wrong! Too many millions of lives have been lost from wars just cuz your religion says we are evil is not cool, let live and love not kill and hate! Peace brother Polo i have subscribed and guve a thumbs up now following your wonderful spread of musical love, keep them coming sir! B-Rad!

I saw Deep Purple live at the Cloverleaf race track that used to be in Cleveland. It was in the late 70s. Billy Preston opened for them doing “go round in circles” That was the first time I ever heard Billy. He was so good the crowd was jumping! Then came deep purple. Smoke on the water just blew my mind. The speakers were all around the racetrack. The sound just surrounded you and enveloped you. It was magic.

@@sue3810 I think I had a really good buzz that day. I know I did. But I don’t remember if it was raining it could’ve been. Billy Preston was on his own stage off to the left. Purple deep purple was on stage in front. I was sitting on the track on the wide part of the oval in the back. Everybody was wasted in my group and everyone around me. The lines of cars were crazy it was like Woodstock. That was one of the best concerts. Hey sister , Glad you made it. Worms that’s hilarious! I can only imagine what your mom thought.

Living in London in the 70s, my landlady’s son was one of DP’s lawyers and he gave me a couple of tickets to see a show. As a 17 year old having lived in Africa all of my life up until then, I had had little or no exposure to rock music, this concert was my initiation to a journey which has lasted over half a century now. It was an eye (and ear) opener! I can’t forget the sensation of the bass thumping through my body, and the absolute awe I felt when I heard this song for the first time.
Later saw the Mk 3 lineup with Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale (also excellent!) and was fortunate enough to be at the only live representation of Roger Glover’s Butterfly Ball with an all star lineup at the Royal Albert Hall.
Ah, to be young again …
