  • In this video were going to take a look at another British Motorcycle manufacturer of classic scramblers the DOT Motorcycle Company in Manchester England. Here we showcase a few examples of the scrambles bikes they built in the late 1950's and early 1960's.

How I loved my old D.O.T. Got it when I was 11 years old, bought from wages working on a salmon station during summer holidays. Went a mile of so over the rough hill to get to work each day. Loved it. Thanks for the vid.

Passed my bike test in 1967 at the age of 16 on a DOT road machine with Villiers 197cc engine which I think was built in 1949. It had girder front suspension and hardtail rear. Speedo read up to 55mph and I often had the needle hitting the max. Great bike which got me into motorcycling and I still ride today a 2002 Triumph Speed Triple 955cc that I've owned for 20 years and use regularly on day runs all over Scotland.

Back in the mid '60s a friend of mine trialed a '64 Dot with a 32A Villiers motor and then went on to race a '65 Dot with a 36A motor with an alloy barrrel. They were decent competitive bikes a little heavy on the front end but the cornered as if they were on rails.
